Fire at Pichelin

A crew of fire officers from the Roseau branch responded to a fire incident in Pichelin last evening following some difficulties experienced by the Grand Bay Fire Station officers in controlling the fire.

According to a fire officer at the Roseau Fire Station, there was “a little problem” at the Grand Bay Station.

Eyewitness Evans James reported to DBS radio a little after 6 that an elderly man received minor burns and had to be referred to the community’s health centre. According to James, the fire began in the bedroom of the elderly man’s home. No harm was done to an elderly lady who was also in the house.

James said that earlier fire officers from the Grand Bay Station attempted to control the fire before it caught two other neighbouring houses.

I have the same opinion with most of your points, but a few need to be discussed further, I will hold a small conversation with my buddies and maybe I will ask you some advice shortly.

Commentators please note that your use of the English Language is atrocious and unforgivable. Please watch your diction, use of languge etc. Learn to write well as it makes for better reading, otherwise it is embarassing to read such poor diction and sentences full of syntax errors, it shows a paucity of words and understanding of the language and highlights how unintelligent you are.

this is a very tragic incident…it could have been anyone of us…fortunately let us give thanks to God even though a home was lost but the lives of the individuals of the said home was not lost and they have more to be thankful for….let us all learn a lesson from this and also share our deepest condolences with the individuals who were victims to this fire which destroyed thier home…..we are with you and praying for u as well…we hope you find the comfort and encouragement in God the Almighty… who guided and protect you….i pray that he will bless you all with a home again….Dominicans let us take heed and learn a lesson from this particular incident which occurred. let us not be to quick to poin fingers and blame but put a helping hand to do good and say good theres a time for criticism but now is not the time for that…sometimes we loose focus…the firemen did there best the house was on fire already and almost devoured by the fire into ashes little could have been to stop the fire from buring the house completely but none the less the fire was distinguish before it could have spread to other houses… it does not matter where the help came from but we should be thankful that help arrrived and others from town could assist…if we have a concern share it but dont be negative towards the firemen thier lives are always at risk because of the jobs they do…so thank you fire officers….. i believe the government should put fire hydrants in the village of pichlen

    Garford George,
Man you making me laugh! I have that CD man, so true! On a serious note, the only reason Grand Bay got a fire station, I remembered as a kid this classmate of Mine name, Bevo, whos family suffered tragic lost in a fire; I think it was 3 or 4 members of her family were perished in the fire. If I remember well 2 were kids.

Its seems the fire station at Grand Bay, does not have the tools to do the job. I mean look the situation that Brisbane song is based on the same tragic situation, a man lost his life in a fire, they could not get to the fire scene. In Dominica, the more things change, the more it remains the same.

Dominicans and the government have failed to realize this is the 21st century and they are not in sync with the times. When a town or a city is being planned, the government should think of the infrastructure, roads, police dept, fire departments, schools, hospitals etc. Why would or should the Roseau FD travel all the way to Grandbay to put put a fire? Doesn’t that sound ridiculous? The same thing happens when there is a serious accident. The injured person has to be transported from Portsmouth or Marigot or some far distance to PMH. It is a surprise that some of the people do not survive after this long trip? Why isn’t the government thinking about this situation? Elections are over and PM Skerrit is comfortable. I am so happy that I do not live in DA.

I do not like to take advantage of sad events to speak of something else, but houses of fire should also be something that DOWASCO needs to think about when providing what they call, “reliable” water to communities. I live in a community that has been for decades now, victim to DOWASCO’s incompitence. I pray thanking God each Day that a home does not catch fire. If ever there is even a little fire that could be contained by a graden hose, The entire place will end up burning to the ground becuase there is hardly ever water in the taps. Just saying it could have been worse for Pichlen. My heart goes out to the the elderly man.
Emergency groups in Dominica need to sit and formulate policies governing general safety, protocols and regulations. We do not even respect the parking near a fire hydrin rule. Then again i cannot remember seeing that on my driver’s test.

Let’s pray to God that there is no big fire incident in the East where Roseau would have to go to rescue. Why can’t Government see the need for a fire station in La Plaine and/or Castle Bruce, before putting one in St Joe? And by the way, are there recruits to add to the already stretched existing fire officers. When Melville Hall’s night landing facility becomes functional, who will take care of Marigot Wesley, Calibishie?

It was the fire officers of the grandbay fire station who put out the fire in pichelin.
the fire officers from the grand bay station had the fire under control when the fire officers of Roseau arrived. As a fact there was not much to do when those from Roseau arrived

What I hearing dere? GrandBay cannot handle what Roseau can in terms of fire???

Authorities really think Roseau is it!!!

Non-sense. Time for proper planning and management to start to take over this country. What we sending all those people to UWI Open Campus to do? Get education and not promote them to make informed decisions? UWI/Fireman hold on they will be calling on you soon.
