The Dominica Association of Industry & Commerce (DAIC) has called on members to begin focusing on rebuilding their businesses as well as their communities in the wake of Tropical Storm Erika.
“We encourage you to focus your efforts on rebuilding your businesses as well as your communities in an effort to foster the collaborative environment needed to spur the relief and rebuilding process,” a DAIC release said.
The DAIC sympathized with those affected by the passage of Tropical Storm Erika which caused great destruction across the island.
The association also praised the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica for its rapid establishment of The National Reconstruction Advisory Committee and activation of The National Emergency Planning Organization (NEPO). The DAIC also commended the swift response from regional and international bodies to assist with the efforts.
“With the combined skills, resources and efforts of all involved, Dominica is on the path to recovery. As the umbrella private sector organisation with the mission to foster economic development, we thank you for your help during our time of need,” the DAIC said. The association also called on other regional chambers of commerce to assist in Dominica’s recovery efforts.
The DAIC membership said they want to be involved in the national effort to rebuild Dominica. As such, they look forward to continued dialogue between the private and public sector to identify areas where this can be done effectively.
“DAIC reiterates its commitment to rebuilding our country with a deeply rooted focus to work towards social and economic progress for all sectors within our economy… [and] acknowledges the impact of potential losses to the private sector due to various challenges from the storm.”
Meanwhile, the DAIC will consult with registered participants of the Shop Dominica, Experience the Promotions to identify a new date for the initiative.
Shop Dominica was initially scheduled for August 28 – 30 and had to be postponed due to the storm.
SHOP DOMINICA could be rescheduled to the week before the World Creole Music Festival/ Independence celebrations. This will be an added boost to the festivities and motivation for more people to travel and to help increase arrivals during the pre independence and World Creole Music Celebrations…Just an idea
All this is nice but how can we rebuild with no funding. We were already at the death bed of most of our businesses. Some of us lost a lot and some lost everything. For us to rebuild we need some sort of financial help or aid, especially for those small struggling businesses that suffered damages and loss. Not for fellas like KFC, Save a Lot, etc, etc etc
