Haitians rescued off the coast of Dublanc

By Chad Ambo, Lester Larocque

Seven Haitian nationals were rescued off the shores of Dublanc last night, survivors of a terrifying ordeal at sea.

Sympathetic villagers of the community assisted them with dry clothing and tea. The weary survivors who managed to make it to land claimed that there were others who were not as fortunate, and were missing at sea.

One villager told Dominica News Online that the events unfolded from around 10 p.m last night. According to the source, many villagers congregated on the shoreline while fishermen went out in their boats to rescue the Haitians in the water.

Unconfirmed reports reaching Dominica News Online from several persons who were on the scene are that the Haitians were attempting to travel illegally to one of the neighbouring French islands. They were however tricked by the deceitful captain, who upon reaching the waters outside Dublanc, told them that they had arrived at their destination and should attempt to swim to shore.

The police and ambulance services eventually arrived on the scene to take control of the situation.

Dominica is one of the POOREST Islands in the Nation. There’s nothing wrong in helping others; however, these Haitians are NOT going to Dominica because they’re poor nor because the Hurricane destroyed their Country. Do you think Dominicans would flock into Haiti for any reason at all? Hell NO!

When they come to the States, where they have families that are able to help them, the Gov’t sends them back. Dominica is in NO position to accomodate illegals that are there for reasons other than what they claim. I agree with ALL that say “SEND THEM BACK TO REBUILD THEIR COUNTRY.” They are complaining about poverty and from what I’ve seen and heard some are fleeing for those reasons; others are not. HAITI needs its people now more than ever to get back on its feet. Wow! what an opportunity the Hurricane gave to the Haitian people to leave. I heard that there are now over 55,000 Haitians awaiting visas to migrate to the US. There’s Food Stamps and Welfare awaiting their arrival. These people are not only POOR they LIE just as much. They lie their way through EVERTHING; DL, FS, WELFARE, MEDICAID, LITTLE or NO COST INS. You name it they get it because they use their language barrier to further themselves. Roosie, help but DO NOT be DOOPED. There’s NO place in Dominica for Haitians, nor Santo Domingoans or whatever you call them. I worked with a young woman in the US that said she had MAIDS in Haiti. You’re not POOR.

Why Dominica anyway? Isn’t it bad enough? or it’s not as bad as we are made to believe? All in all Dominica DO NOT have the space and the jobs available to accomodate these people, unless you are vacationing, YOU GOT TO GO!!!!!!Send them to CHINA!!!!!

These Hatians again, Dominica stop fooling around Haitians do not like dominican when it’s all said and done it will come back to hunt the country, as one individuals said these haitians are doing all they can to mess up the island, if any of you have relatives in Guadeloupe ask them, and they will say it all, Dominican encounter a lot of had time in the hands of Haitians in Guadelopue in the 70, 80, and early 90s, they would go all over where dominicans were employed and bad talk Dominicans for the french people because they speak french and their creole and they were calling dominicans english people, Anglais, their closest neighbor The Dominica Republic do not want them not for nothing, they are corn artist, where ever country they go they are continuing their dirty evil works, in Montreal Canada which is French speaking they do not want them there, cause some of them think that the Canadians are fools , which is not, they discovered what the Haitians were up to, what they were doing is going about killing animals, squirrels and whatever they could get theirs hands on and spreading blood around people’s houses at night, sun rise they would be the first person to come to the very same house playing private investigator and telling people that it’s their neighbor trying to poison them, a few years ago everyday hundreds of them would come to canada claiming refugee status and their fist port of entry was Montreal, what they think is that they would accept them opened handed because they speak french, but it is the opposite, they are not welcome in Montreal, people all over the world know of Haitians reputations, for some of you Dominicans to be saying that Dominicans travel everyday to other countries this is true, yes for better opportunities not to destroy people’s lives, you all need to take a look at what is happening to the youth of your country, the haitians will surely destroy all the further, doctors, lawyers, engineers, teachers ect. and only to listen to you all saying what is happening to your country youths, all those who support Haitians are equal to them, in Florida they were killing one another in little Haiti, in Missouri, they were doing the same, when their will be no more trees in your country for them to cut to burn and go down to your market selling coal they will live, dominica is too poor for Haitians, they cannot live Haiti and go to Guadelopue nor Martinique, so they have to use your country to do so, do you all think that they will go to Jamaica, Barbados and do what they are doing in your country no, no way, as the saying goes monkey knows which tree to climb and for the Haitians the only country they can and will and is already bringing down is your island, nuff said, they are not welcome in my country which is developed and doing well they need to go back to their country which they destroyed and work with the others to rebuild it

      June 5, 2010

Here’s what they do, they drive the boat round and round for a long while without going far off the island, so the haitians believe that they are close to their destination

while it is good to give all a fair chance, lets look at it honestly, the haitians came here, LEGALLY, and they got, YES THEY HAVE IT, work permit, and they also have a JOB, YES WEE, so if u have all that, why should u let a man that have his big wall house, and leaving in st. martin, come and fool ur head, and make u pay him, $1,500U.S. to take u back door to st.martin, it means dat u have no need for DOMINICA, u try to leave the country illegally, so I AM SO HAPPY THEY GOING BACK TO HAITI, LET THEM GO, now LAW OFFICERS, U HAVE TO GET THE HAITIAN THAT PUTTING THE VISA FOR THEM TO COME HERE, AT $1000.U.S., and when he get the visa for them he charging them $2000U.S. to buy the ticket to get them here, so u see how the man making money, and OFFICERS THE HAITIAN THAT IS DOING THAT IS IN ROSEAU, HE WALKING THE STREETS, FIND HIM, and the one from portsmouth, go and look for him in the early morning in his house, and those dat there know where he is, and the other three, find them, the man dat bring the rest of them haitians on the bus from roseau to dublanc, find him too, dem dominicans too bad, is curse they want to put on our land, JAIL THEM.

What happened is very very sad. My heart goes out to those in sorrow. I feel especially for the baby or child who lost his or her life.

The Haitians however were not forced to take the risk that they took. They need to stop using Dominica as an intransit station/port. They are facing hard times and Dominica tried to help, where were they going? I guess Dominica is not good enough for them. We have to sympathize but we have to be logical too. The people were aware of the risk. They know how many of them lose their lives at sea yet they still migrate illegally, Are they being persecuted or tortured in Dominica? They seek asylum yet they run away from it.

The men who transported them are not without blame. God will deal with them. No matter what the circumstance no one deserves to be fooled and treated that way. Didn’t they know there was a child aboard? Alas! Whoever is the head of this ring will pay heavily. Is human life worth pieces of silver, gold or paper? They need to remeber there is a God who sees all, hears all and knows all.

Well, well, well. Now people nayea all you bawling. Is them gwo-boug that involve in the trafficking. The last time they caught them Haitians leaving illegally and the coast guard arrest them what happened? Ask the minister for immigration & labor. If I was the police I would not respond to no dam call. We taking the police for zearzear and when they decide not to waste their time we complaining. Until those in power and authority stop condoning the crimes against our laws them the police will sit and watch. And in their support I say good job.

I am again reiterating my call for a Commission of Inquiry into the police force. That will clear the air and expose all those officers civilians that are interfering in the force by giving orders because they are affiliated with certain politicians.

for real Karkabeff. it happened in my village, thats where the boat was docked for about two week. when they go caught the Haitians were deported, the captain of the boat spent a month for the most in prison. all the charges dropped. he is out possie strolling, still involve in trafficking…

  24. never mind
    June 4, 2010

This is the latest business venture in Portsmouth and Dominica.
Most times the person doing the trafficking are just mere puppets working for the “big man”. As in this case the 2 men involved are from Portsmouth and were just doing a job. One of the men owns a small fishing boat the other one spends more time in prison than out, as a matter of fact he just came out of jail about a week or two ago. These Haitian pay large sums of money to go on these trips, unfortunately a young child lost his/her life.
    real sad story

These people need to pay heavily for this crimes. The police need to get to the root of this, to get the persons who cash in on the mishap of this people.
Amazing to see the persons who came to dublanc,or persons asking about the incident before people of the village knew about it.

fellow dominicans, you are not aware of the things that are going down, tings that are happening here is a mistery, first of all, them characters that coming in the country, how they getting here, HAITIANS AND DOMINICANS that putting the visa for them, HAITIANS charging up too $1000.00US to put a visa that cost $50.00US, from their fellow haitians in haiti, and the sad part about it, they are the ones that ‘s getting the visas to come here, and when u that honest try to get a visa to enter a family member or friend, u get refusal, (and the visa is a good visa) so when the racketeer as they are called get u here, he also gets another $1000.00 from u to go to martinque, and that is U. S. dollars, so the dominicans get the deal to bring dem go for part of the money, all of them sit down in ROSEAU, they have no business, no job but whole day they dress in long sleeve and going up and down ministry steps, they know them, they not AMBASSADOR,OR HIGH CONSUL, how comes u getting so much visa for haitians to come here, how comes u always have a visa to put and when u get it, where dem people, MR PRIME MINISTER IF U DON’T CHECK OUT WHAT IS GOING ON, THEY WILL PULL THE COUNTRY UNDER YOU, THEY KNOW WHO THE PEOPLE ARE, IS HONEST ONES LIKE ME THAT GETTING THE STRESS. them dominicans coming from st. martin and hussling dem haitians to get dem to go on dem small boats, they building big wall house, every week they coming from st.martin, go and look for dem in st,martin, is dere they be hiding, wicked souls, they will pay, because they making children, they have SONS HERE AND IN ST.MARTIN, they will pay.

    June 4, 2010

I am sure they were going to Guadeloupe or Saint Martin, in either caes, we have enough to deal with here. We cannot take on nothing or anyone else. What it will do is give Dominica a name of human trafficking, when its not Dominicans that trying to enter, its Haitians

  29. June 4, 2010

Well… people know who are the individuals with the boats, and until they are ready to give in these names to the police or media, we may as well stop complaining about human trafficking back and forth to the islands.

This is not even a ‘Haitian’ problem per se as many of us want it to sound, because it has been going on for many many years. This case is more exposed because it’s not our neighbour, classmates or friends involved, instead it involves large numbers of Haitains. It is therefore easier to point fingers at the Haitains and not at ourselves.

What we fail to realise is that we get the harder end of the stick and the human trafficking problem ends up inside our own homes. This is because we employ the very same ‘Haitians’ we complain about…
And the majority of Dominicans who are smuggled into Guadeloupe and Martinique by these very same captains are our 13 and 14 year old boys and girls who drop out of school to lead a life of crime and violence in these countries. They return with the bikes, nice clothes and expensive shoes like the sebago docksides, are the envy of other youths, and end up being the boyfirends and girlfriends of our own kids.

    June 4, 2010

Dominicans we have a serious problem on our hands. Do You think is a joke? Human trafficking is a lucrative business taking place right under our noses and hitting us straight in the face. There are Haitians here linking with Dominicans that are bent on engaging in those illegal acts. There is no regard for human life irrespective of the frequent tragedies and mishaps at sea in their attempt to make money through human trafficking. The Haitians coming to Dominica are not properly screened and so there are all sorts of persons arriving with criminal intent and taking advantage of the genuine help afforded to them. Too many cases of those illegalities which involve Dominicans and Haitians operating in tandem. If that is not quickly dealt with, Dominica’s name will be further tarnished, many more lives will be lost. There is still a major case of Human trafficking that every Dominican has been patiently waiting to be dealt with by the courts, but alas. it looks like a wait in vain. It is a big case now in the courts for several years now involving big men of influence. That case might be solved when the hen has teeth. In the mean time the big fish in our waters will continue to have a good feast of Haitian human flesh after they will end up drowned in that inhumane trafficking. According to the old maxim, ‘Money make the devil dance.’ It is all about DE MONEY. YES, DE MONEY.

Allegedly there is a baby missing. This mother was hyterically calling out for her baby, her baby. That her child was dropped in the water. She showed a Dominican health passport for the child which indicated that the baby just got immunized last month. It is just a Shame that it took the coast guard several HOURS before arriving on the scene. The police officers had to put in several calls to them and still, all they said was they were coming. We do not have to be in support of human trafficing to have reguard for human life. I commen the people of Dublanc for their rescue attempts, as if it hadn’t been for our villergers, many more lives would have been lost.

On another note, the owner of that boat should be hanged! They offering these already desperate people some assurance of a way out, taking their money, and lettign them go in water. What kind of creatures would do that?
