La Plaine man seriously injured in accident

police lightsThe police say they are carrying out investigations into a traffic accident which occurred at the Woodbridge Bay Port Compound which left a man seriously injured.

Gerard Joseph, 66 of La Plaine is now in hospital in serious but stable condition, according to police PRO, Inspector John Carbon.

Inspector Carbon reported that the accident occurred when the tire of a trailer truck rolled over Joseph’s body.

The truck was driven by Christophe John of Canefield.

People, the driver of the truck did noting wrong, The passenger was busy on his phone with a paper in his hand. He wasnt paying attention. He who came on the truck, while Mess knew noting about that, is wen he heard the screaming he stop. People must no that wen using the port because of the noise they have to be on the alert, no on their phone.

People must also stop saying what they want wen they do not no the fact of the story. Mess isnt wrong. An employee of the port.

you individuals need to stop chastising people. When the investigation is concluded and the driver is cleared, you should
tell people to pay attention when walking and forget those cell phones.

I pray for a speedy recovery for Mr Joseph at this time and strength for his worried family.

The details of this report are sketchy, but I would like to know how the tire managed to roll over Mr Joseph’s body. I have my concerns about some of the trailer trucks on our roads. One of the drivers operates as though the road is his only, I hope this is a wake up call to him.

Not only that. So long I see these trailers without registration plates (or even U.S. plates), no rear- or break lights, non-working indication lights, bald tyres, often stuffed witrh plastic bags around the rim to keep them inflated. How do they pass police inspection for insurance and road tax? They are a menace on our roads.

Now Malgraysa, I think you exaggerating a bit here eh. This morning, out of curiosity, when passing by the port in Fond Cole, I checked some of the trailers parked on the side of the road. All had registration plates (what are they doing with US plates anyway, as u suggested), quite a bit had bald tires (that is a fact). I am not sure about indication lights since none were moving…but with plastic bags around the rims to keep tires inflated? Saw none of that…I’ve lived in DA for most of my life and I’ve never seen such, unless I was looking in the wrong places.

Please take a photo of such and send to DNO…am sure they will publish it.

On my way home I am going to stop at the port again specifically to look for plastic bags around rims to keep tires inflated.

        June 14, 2013

Good for you Dorival. Thanks! I swear to you that I have observed all the things listed by me. The U.S. plates are the ones that were on the trailers when they were shipped to Dominica from the U.S.A and never replaced with local ones. I have never known anyone to import a new trailer into Dominica but perhaps you can correct me on that. Do you happen to know whtrher they are checked for roadworthiness when they enter our country and if so by whom and where? I have never seen one at the testing station near the tax office.

@malgraysa- when ppl like u comment on dno, it makes me question the educational system, is the educational system really working. maybe u can carry the containers on your back thats y u can consider the trailers to be a menace. they provide a service. a well needed service. becareful how u speak.

would like to give Malgraysa a truck with a 40ft trailer attached and tell her put it inside traffic dept. yard for inspection, let me see if she would not throw down government wall. i tend to dislike people who are narrow minded, it causes them to behave like they’re uneducated. there’s right and wrong in everything but you cannot critisize someone based on what you think rather than what you know. Do you wear your seatbelt Malgraysa? I bet your car has working indicators, do you always remember to use them? i bet you have forgoten a few times, maybe more… so why critsize somthing someone doesnt have while you have it and forget, or dont see it fit to use it at times tho thw law states you should?

dont understand that new. How did the tyre rolled over him. was the tyre loose or was it attached to the truck axcle and the truck ran over him. Come on DNO you could have done a better job reporting this one. I cant picture what really happened. Please clarify.

That’s a disaster that was waiting to happen for quite a while. Thank God it was not that serious. I always wondered why the sheds and white house are so far apart? Why should i have to walk all this way endangering myself by passing where heavy machinery is operated just to go pay plus the distance as well is ridiculous. I guess they are waiting for a death to happen before it’s looked at.

Roseau to Portsmouth man you have to walk???
The port authority always caution persons to be careful and take precautions when moving around the port grounds! It is said what happen but if someone’s not paying attention then something is just destine to happen!

      • justsaying
        June 14, 2013

So are you trying to tell me that you are comfortable with the way the port is? That it is ok for heavy equipment to be driving along side persons using the port? That it is alright that containers are passing over persons head while they walk? Yes you can pay attention to the vehicles/heavy equipment driving by but how can you prevent a container from getting loose and not fall on someone. Give me a break.

    • Malatete
      June 14, 2013

My thoughts entirely. The walk from the sheds to the white house is always a hazardous one, especially in inclement weather condidtions. Not only that but surely it can not be an efficient set-up having that facility in such an isolated position. Why not bring all admin. functions together under one roof and out of harm’s way.

why when someone come on the boat to get a barrel or barrels, they have to be walking from the shed to the cashier who is right across the port. they need to centralize everything on the port. u check your barrel in the shed, u pay for it in the shed. u hve to be moving from place to place. so silly

We live in a reactive society where we wait for something to happen before we take the necessary measures. Is it that the relevant authorities are not seeing the madness that goes on on the port daily. Going on the port is a suicide mission. Humans sharing space with heavy equipment and containers. Ridiculous is what it is. May God stretch his healing hands over the injured gentleman and give comfort to the driver of the truck.
