LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Be prepared for Grace

11.00 am update on Tropical Storm Grace

I am writing this letter as I am very concerned about the next tropical storm heading to the Caribbean.  The trajectory at the moment off the Cape Verde Islands has started low!  There is a great possibility that we will get weather from this approaching storm; and there is a possibility that it could impact us as did Erika.

Dominicans need to be prepared ahead of time and make their plans now to be in a safe place away from rivers and anywhere that is vulnerable for landslides or anything at all!

I am writing this letter because I was pretty certain Erika was going to hit us.  I have been writing as a correspondent for www.stormcarib.com for 8 years for Dominica.  I did post on FB and Stormcarib that I thought Erika was coming to Dominica and for people near the river or in a bad area should move to stay with friends..

I do not want to see anymore tragedy in Dominica!  Please be aware and be prepared.  Make your plans now it is better to be safe than sorry.

Grace is likely to reach the islands mid week.  Do check regularly the website above.

    We are here to help.
We have the experience and expertise in Disaster Scenarios.
We can help with hurricane rated structures, both prefabricated and on-site built with local welders and general contractors.

We are a small company and do not have the funds to go and help. BUT!!!
We have the will and capabilities, should we get asked to go by the Government and/or private financier.

The question is how come some weathermen could see the storm and why some could not . Was there a lack of competency somewhere. Is an inquiry going to be done to find out why we were not warned?

Every year we are told “we are in the hurricane season” to be prepared but we humans (some of us ) never take precautions. We have to be prepared for the season no matter how bad or minimal a system when there is no wind we get heavy rain so do take precaution. There is a checklist we should have, always be prepared!

The weather is also dry and hot in Toronto. We have extremely warm/hot weather which is unusual for this time of year, in September. Through the Media, I heard the last time it was that hot at this time was in 1959. That is a long time ago.
I am concerned too when the weather gets so hot. At this time of year it is usually cool. We are experiencing tropical-like weather. Most people as I are enjoying this warm weather. This morning the sun was also unusually hot. I am concerned about an earthquake. You know the saying, “After a calm there is a storm” and vice versa. When the rain decides to fall with thunder, lightning and flooding, God help us.
This heat-wave, may change soon. The weather forecast has not revealed it. In the meantime, sporadically, in different areas, there is power outage due to the heat and air-conditioners which are being used.
I pray and hope that Grace bypasses D/ca. Lord, please help D/ca.

I have found the National Hurricane Center website: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov to be very informative, especially their “graphics” and “discussion” pages. But regardless of the best predictions the situation can change at the eleventh hour.

oh dear…. thanks for the update. Really do not think Dominica can handle another storm in such a small space of time since Erika.

People please do not be stubborn like u all did before.. Take precautions..
There were a lot “if i had known” and “i regret” after Erika..

Do not make the same mistake please

We were stubborn? I don’t recall any official warning being given other than to expect rain and thunderstorms. A dam storm was headed straight towards us – we got no official warning and the best you can say is that we were stubborn?

Your comment is very insulting and you should apologize to us.

You are so right. I did some research last week and found that the storms that off Cape Verde do come our way. We really need to prepare for this one – just in case
