Police say a man reported to have died after jumping off the Dominica/China Friendship Bridge near the Roseau Market, apparently died by drowning after falling off the river wall into the river.
The incident occurred on Saturday at about 5:00 pm, with the individual identified as Joseph Austrie, 44, also known as ‘Bo-boy’ of Giraudel.
An eyewitness told DNO earlier that Bo-boy said at the time that he was going for a swim and jumped off the bridge.
Another person reported to have been on the scene at the time, said that Bo-boy was seen laughing and talking to himself on the bridge moments before “the fatal plunge”.
But the police report on the matter suggests it was an accident – that he fell off the river wall rather than jumping from the bridge.
“He attempted to swim to safety, when he submerged. He remained underwater for some time before someone came to his rescue,” the police say in their report on the matter.
“He was taken to the Accident and Emergency Department of the Princess Margaret Hospital where he was treated and given cardio resuscitation but was pronounced dead after resuscitation had failed,” the Head of the Criminal Investigations Department Superintendent Daniel Carbon said.

I can’t understand why you must give Satan credit for and accidental drowning. It is a serious problem when one focuses on Satan so much and not HaShem (God). Satan is NOT a god, but by crediting him for everything bad, you are also glorifying him.

Yes I discovered that he was an alcoholic-when I visited home in 2008. He is an uncle of my brother’s girl friend.
The person identified as Anonymous said that Joseph–Bo-boy– was intoxicated when he/she saw him.
People should know that they cannot go under water when under the influence of alcohol–if that was what he did. And even if he accidentally fell over, death would still happen because of alcohol in his blood.
Must be that alcohol affects the brain when under water. I am sorry he had to die that way.

We know its OK to swim in the river, but no one should dive into the river. Its not deep enough, and there are to many rocks/boulders, especially under the bridge.

I was there yesterday and they guy was very intoxicated in fact he passed where I was sitting on more than one occasion,smiling to his self,moments after I heard screams and people sayin he had gone swimming and something went wrong in the water and he injested a vast amount of water,I think it took too long for him to have been pulled from the water and there was no trained person there to perform cpr maybe that would have helped,very sad RIP

We tend to use the excuse ‘lack of jobs’ for every negative incedent. Giraudel has so much fertile soil that is ready for planting and the young men are sitting by the roadside while Haitian come to Giraudel smiling while planting the land and going to the market.
