Information reaching Dominica News Online indicates an employee of Marpin has been seriously injured in an accident in Les Point near Mahaut.
It is reported that the man was doing some work on a pole when it broke and fell with him. This resulted in serious injury to his head, although at the time of the incident he was wearing protective headgear.
DNO understands the man has been identified as Reynold Baron.
Motorists and other bystanders rushed to Baron ‘s aid and lifted the pole off his body. After 30 minutes no ambulance had arrived on the scene. A Youth Development pick up truck eventually arrived and took him to the hospital.
While waiting for emergency vehicles a nurse on the scene assisted in some way and a doctor later arrived and did basic first aid.
The incident brought traffic to a stand still.
Dominica News Online is attempting to get more information on this matter.
One thing I would really like to say is the fact before acquiring more laptop memory, consider the machine in to which it could well be installed. In case the machine is running Windows XP, for instance, the actual memory threshold is 3.25GB. Setting up greater than this would easily constitute some sort of waste. Make sure that cheap vps one’s motherboard can handle this upgrade volume, as well. Thanks for your blog post.
plzzzzz build things that matter to us most..it’s better to have more ambulances and no one to drive them than dont have at all to respond to emergences..
The entire health system is a joke..too much money spending on things that don’t matter to us like state house. stop buying one or two ambulances every four yrs and build a good health system. better hospitals, more ambulances, trained nurses, more doctors..we suffer too much just to see a doc at the pmh..what do we have to do again so that the powers that be fix the system..plzzzz hear our cry and stop stealing the country money money..
ONE OF THE FIRST PEOPLE ON THE SCENE AND ALOT OF THE INFORMATION AT THE TOP IS NOT TRUE. THE NURSE AT THE SCENE ONLY KEPT SAYING DO NOT TOUCH THE MAN AND WAS ON HER PHONE TEXTING FOR THE ENTIRE TIME. AT ONE POINT SOMEONE ASKED HER TO DO SOMETHING AND SHE SAID SHE DID NOT HAVE GLOVES. THE FIREMAN GOT GLOVES THE DOCTOR HAD DOUBLE GLOVE WHEN HE HELPED TO PUT THE MAN ON THE VAN, by the way, THAT IS ALL THE DOCTOR DID. THE ONLY PERSON TO PHYSICALLY ASSIST THE GENTLEMAN WAS A FIREMAN, LAWRENCE, FROM THE PORTSMOUTH FIRE STATION WHO WAS PASSING BY ON HIS SCOOTER. AFTER SEEING THE MAN ALMOST STIFLING WITH HIS BLOOD IN HIS NOSE AND THROAT, TOOK A GLOVE AND TILTED HIS HEAD SO THE BLOOD CAN FLOW DOWN. ALSO A GENTLEMAN HAD A CARD BOARD PREVENTING THE SUN FROM COOKING THE MAN’S FACE. I KEPT SAYING TAKE THE MAN UP, BUT THE NURSE KEPT SAYING DO NOT TOUCH HIM. I TOLD HER WHEN THE AMBULANCE GETS HERE, IT WILL BE CARRYING A NURSE AND FIREMAN A DOCTOR, WE HAVE ALL THREE PRESENT ON SITE WHY NOT DO SOMETHING. A BUS DRIVER BROUGHT AND UMBRELLA AND I ROLLED UP THE CARDBOARD, BY ORDER OF THE FIREMAN, TO PUT UNDER THE MAN’S NECK WHICH WAS BEING HELD UP BY THE SAID FIREMAN FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES. A CAR DRIVER SAID PUT THE MAN IN MY CAR. BUS DRIVERS KEPT SAYING PUT THE MAN ON MY BUS LET ME TAKE HIM TO THE HOSPITAL, BUT NO. THE NURSE KEPT SAYING DO NOT TOUCH HIM. I JUST KEPT STOOPING DOWN AND TELLING THE MAN TO KEEP BREATHING. NOT SURE IF HE WAS HEARING ME BUT I KEPT SAYING IT.
AFTER ABOUT 45 MINUTES THE SAME MAN WAS TOUCHED AND PUT AT THE BACK OF A HOT VAN BY THE SAME DOCTOR AND THE SAME ON-LOOKERS AND THE SAME FIREMAN. THE FIREMAN LEFT HIS SCOOTER AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WENT WITH THEM TO THE HOSPITAL. AFTER 45 MINUTES, IF THE AMBULANCE WAS SOMEWHERE CLOSE I WOULD HAVE AT LEAST HEARD THE SIREN, BUT NOT EVEN THAT I HEARD. NURSES AND DOCTORS ARE SUPPOSED TO WORK ONLY IN THE HOSPITAL IT SEEMS. THE THREE TOGETHER COULD HAVE GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS AS TO HOW TO LIFT THE GENTLEMAN AND PUT HIM ON A VEHICLE LONG BEFORE THE 45 MINUTE PERIOD SO HE COULD GET EARLIER MEDICAL ASSISTANCE.
I PRAY FOR THIS MAN THAT GOD WILL GIVE HIM A SECOND CHANCE OF LIFE. HE IS A STRONG MAN TO ENDURE SUCH PAIN AND STILL BE HANGING IN THERE.
MAY GOD GIVE THE MARPIN STAFF COURAGE TO GO THRU THAT WITH THE MAN’S FAMILY.
@ on-the-scene:
You are right that early medical treatment can be the difference between life and death. But the nurse was right. Moving the accident victim can have serious medical and legal implications. Why rush him to the hospital in a car or bus without a gurney to stabilize his spinal column? He can/could be paralyzed by doing so. If he was paralyzed as a result of the fall, Marpin, their insurance and lawyers could argue that those who moved him were responsible for additional injuries to his spinal cord.
We have to be calm and thoughtful in such situations. The fire man was of great help rendering first aid. Your help was also appreciated but please do not beat up on the nurse. She could rush to attempt to save a life while potentially losing hers in the process by contracting blood-borne illnesses without gloves. Kudos to those who will but do not blame those who won’t.
instead of all that about the ambulance not coming and the pole rotten and marpin this and that… why don’t we pray and trust and reflect on our own lives and see where we are with God I know all things are possible with God inspite of how grim this seems
hes gettin dere jus keep prayin for him cuz he was a man of prayer. he will get through this cuz we all want him to.
Oh boy… that country going backward.. Has marpin ever heard of preventative maintenance, poles should be replaced at certain intervals..
Ask for emergency services geez that crazy.. Dominica suffering from Brain drain. Lack of skilled, educated population.. yeah don’t get mad so many people leave to go university, get bachelors, masters and even phd, and then never come back.. yes i’m guilty im one of those people…But the climate doesn’t encourage us to come back
The poles do not belong to Marpin!
DOM..please stay where you are because Dominica don’t need ignorant persons like you…you’re ill informed…ill-mannered and I’m sure you don’t really have alot going for you either..so stay where you are and chat crap…just so you know that poles belong to DOMLEC. A** Hole!
Please can you give an update on his condition?
dem abulance want too ppl dead now adays man 30 mins dat shud hve been my brother or anybody dat close to me an de ambulance driver wud hve seen distruction in les point dat day………..
Do we have response time for ambulance, police and fire brigade in Dominica? If not – Why?.
yes tehre is a response time for ambulance in dominica, but when you working with one ambulance that at the time of the incident may be out on another call, them whats the end result? people are left stranded, stop pionting fingers at the firemen, while this goverment is fully outfitting the police police force the fire service gets the scraps that remain. when you out side is one thing but when you in is another story totally
It was nice of the persons driving by to help this man but we can have a serious problem there. We talking spinal injury and the effects of lifting a victim whithout special care. Hearts off to those who assisted- we need first aid courses.
It should be made a law that all have to pass a first aid course inorder to get drivers licence. That would only be to our advantage!!
Are they going to teach all drivers First Aid Courses, even though one is not interested?
SO WHY THE AMBULANCE HAD TO TAKE ALL THAT TIME BEFORE IT SHOW UP,MORE THAN TEN MINUTES.
Although they raise their prices you mean that company still have poowii poles!!!!
da poles a not marpin’s poles dew belong to the electric company
shut de f*** up cuz cud hve hapen to any body it cud be brother dad cousin or ur boyfren if u are a female idk allu must watch wat allu sayin……….smh smh smh
wish reynold speedy recovery and may god lay his hands on him and his family
Thank god, he wore the proper head equipment.
lets hope n pray he survive keep him in ur prayers
lets hope and pray he survive
Thanks god the man didn’t die
My problem is not just the obvious delay- I know there could be several reasons why the ambulance did not show up.
My other major concern is the possible back, and other serious injury that may have happened to that individual and no one was on the scene to properly handle him so that they do not cause more harm. It seems that is a prevalent problem in scenes like this in Dominica.
My other concern is that most drivers in Dominica do not respect the emergency vehicles and clear the way or stop so that they can get to the scene quickly. In those serious injury a minute delay can be the difference between life and death.
Lastly, there is insufficient ambulance and trained first responders.
Hope the young man have a full and quick recovery.
how many incidents occur at a regular basis which require Ambulance services? D/ca has at least 6+ ambulances i’m sure- wtf there were 6+ emergency situations going on at the time? These guys using gov’t vechiles to run their personal sin. There is NO excuse for the ambulance not showing up- and ur point on drivers not respecting emergency vehicles is baseless also. If they wanted all they had to do was to put on their siren and they would have been in mahaut from PMH in under 5mins- the reckless way they drive when they on their personal sin.
i think u need to go do ur homework, 6+ ambulance yes. do u know how much health districs are there in dominica and each of them have one ambulance sometime none and is another distric ambulance that have to response to there cdalls, i thin what you just said is pure BS!
this is ridiculous< thats d second time wid dis ambulance people< witness an accidentthursday< just after the round about going marigot side, calling ambulance no answer this is not good,reLLY SAD TO HEAR
To all of them the likes of 1979, mots, and the rest of them now is the time for them to demonstrate let the government know that in this day age this should not be now is the time spaggs should be out there running his mouth these guys have no clue win the people heart let dno take a pic of u helping but ah ah where ron why no word oh my bad they in court fighting for the wrong cause.Theres an old saying thief never like to see thief with a long bag now dominicans will have to suffer because of that thief syndrome.
30 MIN after a man fall from a pole and in mahaut! people!!! what is happenning in our country. Come on what our workers doing is not like we have that much emergensies. well they have people using govenment rides as their own even going home with GA rides and when there is a need like that what happen. 30 min of blood pumping out from a man head.
Lesson no.ONE, use a heavy HAMMER at the base of the Pole to test if it is sound-Thank you Peter Wood of Cable & Wireless who hammered this into our heads.
Hope this guy was insured by his company?? ned to have health and safty policies in place in Dominica. Checks need to be on area before by health and safty personel be fore doing risky jobs.
Mr Timothy the minister of health should take note of this.why did the ambulance turn up late? The emmergency services need to be more resposible. Thanks to the nurse and doctor who perforn first aid etc good professional skills at work, and to the by standers who played their part.
the victim should be picked up by the professionls the ambulance personels . I could understand the transport who transported to the hospital, they was trying to savea life.
MR TIMOTHY WE NEED TO MOVE ON WITH MORDEN TIMES WHERE HEALTH IS CONCERNS
fridge and microwave from d chinese he interested in
Let us all pray for the man and stop de criticizing. Make suggestions to the utility companies and let us see what happens.
Although we can’t avoid situations such as those , but in reference to the ambulance service this is insane. Thank God he was able to get other means of transportation to do the job. The Government need to do something about that, this is serious. Too many times we have cases whereby, the ambulance is way too late or there are no vehicles on the compound. And still they don’t LEARN from these mistakes it continues to happen.
We have been making so much progress under Skeritt according to you guys and yet, over 30 minuites and you cannot get an ambulance to come and rescue an injured worker. Mahault to Roseau is no more than a 10 minuite drive and you all are so blind to reality and as a result, cannot demand improvement. Little things like this do expose our backwardness in the 21st century.
On tuesday we laughed on the bus then u told me”sis see you on sabbath,if God spears”.I still can’t believe that this happened and we won’t be greeting each other at church tomorrow. However,God will continue to manifest himself as God and do what he sees best!We at Bethel S.D.A are praying and we know that God has everything in his hands.Special service has just ended but we continue to keep a song in our hearts and a prayer on our lips
Oh my,that is so nice.Keep praying for him.God will set him back on his feet.Accidents do happen and will always happen. Please do not allow your faith to falter, keep strong.Pleasant Sabbath to you all.
Amen from Palm Bay SDA!!
It is amazing to see how we as Dominicans speak so foolishly, Many I ask one or two questions? how many of the persons who responded to the article was actually there? who was the one who called the ambulance service, was a timer on to count to say that it was exactly 30mins? was does everything have to be politics can’t we think outside of the politics box like we once did? What is the sue money going to do for this poor fellow who left home this morning with plans for the future and chances are he may never walk again, have you sat to think of that? and to have his picture out like that how des his wife, mother or children feel? why are we so heartless? where has love gone?
Please take a time to read some of what you post it is a true reflection of you and looking from outside it’s ugly.
God bless my nation and it’s people and heal this young man and his family.
Well said truth. It is good to know some of us can be objective.
Also did Angelo Allen abuuse his journalistic prividelges by his life commentary, including the man’s name – not even sparing a thought of the family who may not have been informed? The effect may be as bad, or worst than shooting a man in a school yard by a professional.
The majority of persons are questioning the amount of time it took the ambulance arrive at Les Pointe. The ambulance might have been on another call. Thats what happens when persons call for the ambulance for petty calls where as the ambulance could be reserve for real emergencies such as this one. Dominican must use the ambulance service wisely from now on.
Re the dominoes story fire officers are on standby for 24hrs isn’t there a time in that 24hrs for recreation?
I would like to know if there is/are any ambulance/s at the Canefield Airport just next door to the scene of this incident? If yes was it out? If not why is there not an ambulance stationed there?
what happen the fire department didnt have vehicles at the time or what?
hope that will be a lesson to all the utility companies…some of them want to put one man on a vehicle..what if that man was in the country area and in the bush…when would we know that this accident had taken place? it is time we take health and safety seriously…our terrain doesn’t call for one man on a vehicle….anyway our prayers are with the young man..jah bless
THATS TRUE,THAT IS TOO DANGEROUS,IF THAT MAN WAS IN THE BUSH WORKING LIKE I SEE THOSE MARPIN GUYS WORKING BY THEMSELVES,SOMEONE WOULD DIE,THANK GOD PEOPLE WERE THERE TO CALL THE AMBULANCE.
Thanking God for speedy recovery for the young man,and bring solace and comfort to his family, big thanks to those who assisted him on the scene, while the ambulance was stuck in rush hour traffic jam and drive through a tornado for 30 minutes to get to him
May God’s healing hands be with him whereever he receives medical treatment
Lets all hope that Mr Baron comes through this OK.
A strap around the waist is inadequate, head gear is a must. Hope MARPIN have medical insurance for their field workers.
My thoughts are with the family and friends having to wait on news of his progress.
When our TV/Phone/Electricity lines are down, lets not be angry and demand repairs. Lets start thinking of the men who have to perform these tasks in all kinds of weather/conditions.
God can move mountains u just have to have faith. May the Good Lord see him and his loved ones through this hard time
CREATOR OF MANKIND,THE GREAT PHYSICIAN,AND THE ALPHA AND OMEGA,We Dominicans come before you this evening asking you to please, please save this man,we know that the medical personnel are trying but they are human,Father we ask that you take ffull control of this mans life, may your will be done in his life, and may all praise and glory be directed to you,in JESUS name-Amen
alu dominicans to fast the man had a helmet. alu must watch news a little bit more often.
20 years ago that was the situation in this Country,to what level have we gone to?
what is our level compare to 20 years.
i am so sorry that man fell it broke my heart
when it comes to stuff like that ppl tend to jump to conclusion and stay stuff…what if the ambulance was out on another call at the time and was some where like scotts head ask your self that….sad tho hope the young man gets the required medical treatment
Dat i checking there!!!! Domincians to like to bring down there own country always have something negative…nothing uplifting…never thinking of d possibilities
I wish this employee a speedy recovery. Don’t we have ambulances at Canefield and St. Joseph? If not, why not? Since most of our utility poles are alongside the roadway, why don’t we have bucket trucks to work on the poles. It’s about time that the utility companies invest in a few bucket trucks. Was there another company employee? Any employee working on a pole or in a manhole should have a second employee for assistance in case of emergency. Many poles also have high voltage cables. Thank God this wasn’t one of them!
amen to that
sad indeed .thats to show how old the electric poles are .a man on a pole shouldnt bring the pole down .
play domino and gain weight on tak payers money i would sue domlec marpin ambulance serives min of health etc
respect allu workers
shocksman send d man overseas b4 too late becomes gentlerest
wa
another reason why dominica needs a 2025 type… state of the art health facility… to take care of the work force… we like to do things backward… we don’t need the kind martinique had 10 years ago… we need what trinidad trying to have 10 years in the future…. put the 27 mil to good use…
in modern day like 2011 you can’t have people climbing poles with ladder. Bucket trucks should be used. More xpensive but 100000000000 times save. pole can fall and ul b safe still….
or better yet – put those d. lines in the ground. No more climbing
if domlec is responsible for the pole then they should be suuueeeeedddd!!!… i do hope the man gets the best medical care and a speedy recovery…
People have no knowledge about the law of Dominica…the canefield airport fire pass and rescue has nothing to do with the public….it was specifically put there because of the airport…..even if theres a fire or an accident in that area or near by they are not suppose to leave the fire base..its there in care of the airport..planes come in and go out..what if something goes wrong on the airstrip while they went out to put off a fire or perform a rescue in the area??? and mind you theres only 3 officers working there at one time 2 work on a 24hr shift and the other works a 8-4 shift so BA YO BWA get yourself educated about how things work
Its a doggone shame to repeat that that is how things work in this day and age. Why can’t Canefield serve as a sub station with enough personnel and equipment in case of emergencies in the nearby area? Let us not forget that the bulk petrol store facilities are located in the Canefield area. Why can’t a vehicle with a couple officers remain at base while others attend to only accident related emergencies? By the way, which station services the Marigot area, where the other airport is located?
A question was asked you moron. If you know the answer, then you just give it. The tone of your comment suggests that you are angry. You definitey need to be educated on the english language before you try to educate others. Do not send people to get educated before you go yourself. You sound like an IDIOT!!!
THE STATE PALACE IS MORE IMPORTANT THEN BUYING AMBULANCES. HAD IT BEEN A MINISTER OF GOVERNMENT, THE AMBULANCE WITH NURSES,DOCTORS ETC WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE SEEN IN TEN MINUTES OR LESS.
Doctor love do you know if anyone called the ambulance and when. Last week lights went in a section of our village. Every body blaming domlec. after two hours I came to the area and saw what was going on. I asked has any one called Domlec? All the jack wagons looking at each other expecting each one had done it. Ponder on that.
My greatest concern is that when it is a minister of government, they fly them out to Martinique in an instant. None of them stay hospitalized at PMH to see and feel it. Take a survey and you will see. Everyone of them go overseas for their treatment.
That’s a shame on Dominica and to the primeminister for not having an ambulance acting quickly in such time. Shame!!!!!
I hope and pray this man makes it.Sad to see he was just doing his job to end up seriously injured. On that note maybe marpin can learn a lesson by having supervisor inspect poles that workers are going to be climbing dailyand also mandate head gear for pole climbers. My prayers are with u Mr Baron.
Luckily he had his head gear on
iagree but not marpin only to inspect poles and not only pole the bereau of standards have to instect them too and other thingslike gas station pumps. Yousee this country is just too reactive in so many aspects. so may person trained and qualified but unemployed when there is so much work to be one.
For you information we at marpin strongly enforce the safety of all our employees. He was wearing a head gear. As to you point of pole inspection no one would climb onto a pole that is not safe.
All due respect, that pole wasnt properly inspected,if you know anything about safety you would know that. The base of the pole was rotten, its unfortunate the a man life hangs in the balance for us to learn simple lessons
Also what is up with this one technician working on a vechicle when SAT which is a smaller company has two,if safety is a priority why is there one man risking his life for Marpin? Are there any standards or rules governing field workers? The safety rules in Marpin should be reviewed, and reviewed quickly before this unfortunate thing happens to someone else.
did he have anothe emplyee with him? if you all dont have enougth men then train and employ some, to many time you all ask for people with experience train and give them the experience. Our companies in dominica just want to know they have a yearly profit of millions. I pray that the Lord Bless this young man and his family.Don’t worry to much God have his plan for this man it may not be here on earth but he have his plan for all of us.
I am guessing you are a very well paid employee who is willing to defend your company. Dominica is one of the few countries which has no kind of legislation to protect employees (If there is it is definitely not being enforced). They allow employers to do anything to employees from abuse to victimization. In order to cut cost, Marpin has now changed from teams to individuals. Even if Marpin says inspect the pole properly, who is to tell whether that was done or not? Well, at least if there was another team member, things may have been different. I would advise you to take your genuine concerns to your employer instead of kissing up and defending them while your colleague’s life hangs in the balance!
I HAD JUST PASS DOES GUYS WRKING ON HE POST ABOUT 25 TOO HALF AN HOUR HEARD ON THE RADIO A GUY FALL OF THE POST AND WHERE DAT HAPPEN I HAD JUST PASS DERE WII… LIFE IS SUM THING ELSE WII HOPE THAT HIS BETTER.
some people have no common knowledge of what is happening. If dere is an emergency like this 1 and everybody head is so far up their — and not realizing the first thing to do is called the Fire service help will never reach. Its no way that the Fire service would receive an information like this and not respond promptly. people be wise and stop trying to give the department a bad name.
So sad to hear. Does MARPIN own poles or are these DOMLEC poles? Just wondering. Anyway, some compensation is definitely forthcoming.
Mahaut is a heart beat from Roseau and the ambulance was a 30 min wait? Not surprised as once we called the ambulance for my aunt in Pottersville and we were told the ambulance was in Vielle Case.
lol very funny from roseau to vielle case wow.
yh thats ridiculous…. many lives were lost due to patients not receiving help fast enough… This is a problem everywhere but in Dominica this seriously has to be adressed
if you called the fire service and they told you that the ambulance was in vieille case then sorry to tell you but you called the portsmouth fire station lol
So wait a minute, only one ambulance serving the whole nation?unbelievable shame shame shame on the government, this is outrageous 30 minutes for a critically injured man to lay on the ground waiting on emergency vehicle to come to his aid is totally unacceptable, for heaven sake invest in a helicopter or something, what are the people paying taxes for?these are the things that enrage me,I pray that the young man survives and I also agree that people employed to do those dangerous jobs should be provided with “hard hats” and othor protective gear
I HATE WHEN THINGS LIKE THIS HAPPENS AND THE FIRST THING SOME PERSONS FIND TO DO IS TAKE PHOTOS WITH THEIR PHONES.
totally agree, very inconsiderate
Do you want them to take it with a fishing gun?
i wonder if people would like it if it were their relative in his place and other persons taking off photos. people must think before they act. in the mean while lets all pray for brother Baron. He is a kind man.
If only they could learn to take those same photos when police doing wat they not suppose to be doing and when people committing crimes.
You have a problem with the person who took the photo I suspect and not the fact that the photo was taken. Didn’t you see a photo and video on NBC this week of a man who was puuled out from underneath a burning car? It’s called news. I am sure you have seen similar and others which did not draw such comment from out of you
Question; Isn’t there a branch of the Fire and Ambulance Services located in Canefield? How long does it take an ambulance from Canefield to Les Pointe? When people particularly politicians sit and discuss ideas, this one should be on the top of the list. After 30 minutes, even if an ambulance leaves Roseau it would have gotten to Les Pointes!! Who holds these people responsible for not performing their duties? It is already bad enough that they are only transporting the patient with no qualified health official who could deliver emergency care but it is worse that they cannot even provide a ride in adequate time.
I would advise Marpin to ask the Fire and Ambulance services to bear part of the costs involved in the treatment of this patient. I wish him well and I do wish him a speedy recovery.
I am in total agreement with you.
Are you kidding me? no Energency Medical Technicians in the emergency vehicle? so let’s see 30 minutes on the ground another oh 30 minutes or so to get him to the hospital, wow “you go gov good job”I dont know but this calls for a picket line of protest,I’m just saying!!
i guess they was in pond case this time.lol
hahahaha. not the fe an ambulance to bear part of the cost but the government. This man pays txes and he cannot get an ambulance on time hen he is most inned of it. Now social security want hime to retire at 65yrs wow.I guess we don t have money to buy an unlimited abount of ambulance veicles becase we have to ask for most of them. is like we are being given a fish a not being taught t fish. see the amount of fruits asting every day and we there importing fruita busta and just name them.
I have no problem in that but we need to manufacture our own and export too so we will have mone to buy what we need eg ambulance.
True, but the ambulance cannot leave the airport when and if there are flights coming in. I’m sure some ppl are aware of that
i know there is a tendency for the others pole climbers to have a bit of fear now..i can see that pole does not look old..it looks new to me.. wow! Father we just need your protection for these men doing pole climbing in other to have the job done. wow!
fear or not…. what that have to do with the ‘pole falling’
That is just sad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 30 minutes and no ambulance!
Oh my… I do hope that he is well.
Marpin do better…. at least he should be wearing a helmet.
He was wearing a helmet. It cracked together with his skull under the pressure.
mr smart guy, please”READ”properly,he did have his helmet on
He did had a helmet …. the pole cracked that too
I pray for healing for this young man…may he recover speedily and wholly…amen.
This really saddens me. A fellow DA’an just doing his work so that his family can have a better life. i send positive vibes your way for a speedy recovery my fellow DA’an.
An emergency response unit built within certain intervals or core parish areas will shorten response time.
Well said @kanpeche “double like”
Lord! Help this gentleman. Please do for him what you have done for others. Thank you Lord.
LORD no words can fully express our innermost desires at this time – show yourself merciful in as you see fit
Father only You In Jesus Name – so be it
The person is in my prayers. soooo sad.
Alas.. they need people to inspect the bases of those poles, especially those in moist areas, man….I’m so sorry we had to learn this in such a terrible way… we must remember to be vigilant and that prevention is better than cure..this could have been avoided….sigh…. i wish him a speedy recovery and gods watch over him…..alas!
There is a technique used by utility companies to inspect the base of poles before climbing them. I have seen Domlec and Lime pole climbers doing this. I believe that pole climbers should always place their ladders in the same direction of the “stays”. This will ensure some security if the pole gives in. But even better than this, we should consider moving away from climbing poles and using ladders. The trucks with the hydraulic lifts give more security.
30 minutes and still no ambulance ?? ?? In the heart of mahaut…….
Not in Dominica alone that does happen nuh… allu always dear… in america a woman had to wait 2 hours before ambulance come because the nearest hospital was to hours away… i’m sure the ambulance people did there best to rush to the scene…
otherwise they wicked
from canfield to mahaut is not AMERICA.
BYE DEA DEA.
Hear rubbish….allu like to compare Dominica to America in the most idiotic way. Lespointe is 15 minutes away from PMH and 6-8 minutes away from canefield. How in the world you can compare that to a situation where a hospital was 2 HOURS away from the scene? Isn’t it obvious that in that case the delay is justified zeh-zeh?
How can you compare the two you idiot!…lol
it still doesn’t matter…i’m sure d ambulance people did there best… I did not say canefield to mahaut is America! i’m just drawing reference
that s why opposition needs to go to the house and takle the real issues instead of attacking one man like that man is a GOD. they nned to keep the gvernment on their p s and qs man pressure them with the real issues affecting all Dominicans
I pray that he get better ,i believe that anything is possible with god’s help.
I don’t think that enough attention was given to Health & Safety the fact that a pole broke is justify’s my opinion. Very sad may God touch you with his healing hands.
I can understand your concern but the section of road where the team was working is now undergoing major road works as part of the West Coast road rehabilitation programme and this fact prevented the team from confirming the integrity of the pole before climbing it. The fact that the pole had two “stays” anchoring it must have given the team the assurance that it would hold. They were actually transferring cable from the current pole to a new pole.
30 minutes and no ambulance is yet to arrive on the scene and this area is not far from town? Our medical services need to step up
we need a 27,000,000 million dollar state ambulance!!!!!!
YOU MADE MY DAY. THESE ARE THE REAL ISSUES MY FRIEND NOT KERRIT HE IS JUST A MAN ONE MAN. YOU KNOW WHAT IS TUNNEL VISION? that is how the opposition has become and they have added to the suffering of the poeple.
Wid the dozens of ambulance an drivers we have in Dominica Dem boys was playin domino, nor so?? An all road clare from de hospital to Mahaut.
DONT JUST JUMP TO ANY CONCLUSION TYPICAL DOMINICAN SOME ONE JUST MENTION THAT YOU DON T KNOW HOW TRUE BUT YOU JUST JUMP ON THE BAND
I wish him well this is terrible news, but what is the man’s employer doing? What safety measures are in place for employees. I understand that it is company policy to have only one man out at a time despite suggestions to include at least two for safety and efficiency. I hope something is done and the right questions asked. We need to stop waiting for an accident to happen and put pressure on companies to have proper PREVENTATIVE measures in place. Please let’s stop being only reactive, after all nice words and sentiments won’t undo the damage that has already been done.
I know…. where is his helmet…..
His helmet was on his head and probably prevented additional head injuries. The hetmet broke on the impact.
To the person who mentioned the helmet,he had one,but the impact split the helmet in two.You know one thing that is sooo amazing is that people say just about anything whether it it factual,or fiction, and assumptions reign supreme in this little country of ours.
like i was saying the bereau of standards has so much work to do here. if their staff is too small then employ more poeple so many youths left school this year looking for a job. even doctors are unemployed.
Ahh!what sad news, may the Lord God most gracious , most mercy full bestow a grace on you and your family.
Sounds serious. Hope he is rushed to Martinique. Get the impression that the nurses and doctors are capable but equipment is not available.
Speedy recovery.
Thank you for that comment. We are often quick to put down our own, so it is good that we acknowledge the expertise of our own while recognizing that we live in a Third World economy with limited resources. We need to stop comparing life in Dominica with the fantasy life of glitz and glamour that we see on TV most of which is not always actually possible even in most parts of the great United States of America.
See that’s the problem we need to find ways and means to stand on our own and not depend on every other country to stand for us we are supposed to be an independent nation when are we going to back that up?
So sad< may the almighty father see him through his tragedy
Where was the ambulance?

It was idle up de road jus waitin for a call.
Stuups! Allu always have to come up wid someting stupid.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the gentleman. Let me just say that the response time in getting an injured person medical care is very important in the care of such a patince. We are not all health experts but sometimes some basic care in handling and transporting the patience to the hospital may just be what is key in saving a life.
Flowers to those who assisted.
praying everything works out for the Good praying for speedy recovery…. pray that God protects u throughout
That pole was rotten man.
I hope they send him away ASAP, don’t trust our health system.
Hope you never have occasion to use the health system that you claim you do not trust. Your name is very appropriate since it is only someone in kaban kaka that would think that way
Sounds like he is in critical condition. I am so sorry to hear this news. Let’s all pray for his speedy recovery.
