The brothers who were swept away by the currents of the river in Bath Estate, have still not been found.
David and Clifton Lewis were swept away by the raging river at Bath Estate during Tropical Storm Erika which struck Dominica on August 27. The two were in Clifton’s Paradise Valley, Bath Estate house when disaster struck. Paradise Valley has since been declared a special disaster area and residents were told to evacuate.
Clifton’s daughter Terisa Lewis said the family heard a crashing sound and called out to the brothers who were at the back of the house at the time. Upon investigating, they realised that the part of the house where the men were had been undermined and had broken off.
Terisa described her 56-year-old dad as an active, caring and good person. The husband of Jacintha Lewis and father of three, many know him as a pan-man, playing steelpan for tourists. He is also recognised as calypsonian ‘Cocoa Tea’.
David ‘Billy’ Lewis and his wife’ Delicia Lewis’ residence is at Kingshill.
Proprietor of Green’s Wholesale, Paul Green and former Roseau Parliamentary Representative Norris Prevost both spoke glowingly about David Lewis, a Ministry employee.
Prevost described him as a fine example of man and as a positive, helpful person.
Green described David as helpful, trustworthy and well loved.
Green who expressed great sadness at what has happened, said David had taken him to the airport before the storm and had promised to pick him up on his return.
David Lewis who up to the time of his disappearance was an office attendant at Ministry of Tourism, is known by many as calypsonian ‘Vision’.
The very first day their picture was posted , without ready this article , the first thing I said was ‘aw those fellas so nice and helpful . I am really sorry for their loss and to the families ,God will give you strength .
This is a very sad time for our family in Dominica and in the U.S we are still keeping faith and trusting in God. Thanks all for the love and support. Our uncles are very loved by the Grace of Gid they will be found.
My deepest condolences goes to you and family. Very sad story
they both ail me very well.. never had conversation with them or knew their names but they’ll be missed.
I will always remember his friendly approach to persons he encounters on the grounds of the Government Headquarters.
Three days ago I read that their bodies were found in layou so that wasn’t true, plus the way it was said that it happen is not true.comfort to the family
My prayers go out to the family of the Lewis brothers and all those who lost their lives or were affected by this unprecedented storm. In spite of the pain and challenges ahead we as a nation must remain positive and take the attitude that “This too will pass”. While we mourn, let us also focus on the work ahead to rebuild.
These two were always together, laughing and talking. I have never seen either man angry. God bless their families in their time of grief.
Billy my brother from another mother. You never missed a day without passing at greens just to show your face.love you bro.
Hi, years ago we were in dominica.
Its horrible what happened now. We only have adresses of our friends and no emails.we dont have any informations about them if they are goin well or not..how hard was scottshead hitten?
Scott’s head is ok. everything is back up now. no lost of lives thank god for that.
This is so sad. Let us picture ourselves in this situation and feel how they felt when they were being washed away and helpless to save themselves.
How did this happen that they did not feel a thing prior to the house giving way that they could have quickly removed themselves from the path of destruction?
May their souls rest in peace. Lord have mercy!
My sympathy to their family. Be strong in the Lord. God bless and strengthen you.
How could nature be so cruel to two of the most equable and humble people in Dominica? Those two were so cordial and loving. Fubei was like a black Socrates; he questioned everything and sought the answer through introspection and faith. And, Billy, OMG, his soul was so pure and calm. I can’t believe and accept nature’s unfairness toward them, but their partnership was unbreakable. When they were together, everyone got a double dosage of equanimity in its purest form. I will forever miss their smiles.
