Notice on Macoucherie Bridge

The Bailey bridge at Macoucherie was compromised recently

Further to the announcement of March 11, 2017, the Ministry of Public Works and Ports continues to remind the general public of the failure of the Bailey Bridge at Macoucherie due to heavy rainfall which occurred on March 11, 2017.

Designs for a new Bailey Bridge are currently being finalized.

In the interim, motorists are advised to use the old Macoucherie Estate Bridge for vehicles weighing less than ten (10) tonnes and the temporary path created on the Macoucherie River for all other vehicles.

The Ministry of Public Works and Ports apologises for any inconvenience caused and reassures the general public that the Ministry is working feverishly to install a new Macoucherie Bailey Bridge as well as the new permanent Macoucherie Bridge.

The chinese should study the macachourie bridge before building any bridge in Dominica. They used commonsense. all bridges in Dominica should be at a high level to accommodate tree trunks which is preventing the water from passing hence the mas destruction by water.

all the money given to lazy people should put invested in a real bridge. Dominica bridges need to be raised to allow for tree trunks. we are in the tropics. Lord Jesus why aren’t the people in charge thinking further than their noses?

These are the realities of life in Dominica. before any indication of rain these days our infrastructure is compromised. We should start the discussion on how we “Build Back Better”. What is the process to be utilized in designing such a resilient program of development. I say this to note that critics of our present development stage are quick to “forget; that these are critical times in our development and things are not the same as before demanding a new and strategic approach to planing our development.

“Designs for a new Bailey Bridge are currently being finalized.”

I can only assume that this is intended to mean providing better support for a replacement Bailey Bridge. Designing a “new Bailey Bridge” would be the equivalent of re-inventing the wheel. The original design concept is so effective that it has remained virtually unchanged in 75 years.

Credit is due to the builders of the original Macoucherie Estate Bridge for a job well done way back in the 1920’s!

Lol, what a joke!!! According to them “designs for a new bailey bridge are being finalized.” Ok alright. these Bailey bridges were supposed to be temporary. They’re forced into being made permanent fixtures just like the playpen school yard ramp that resides before the Hillsboro bridge in layou; instead of fixing the road down there those headless chickens went for cheap shot and paved the ramp and then those laborites sit back and say “well at least a little something is better than nothing.” Wake up the foolish laborites. In cases like these you can’t sit there and say that half a loaf is better than none. While you guys are relaxed, water is eating away underneath the play park ramp at layou when the river flows strong. Are they waiting for that to wash away too before they make a move? The great & wise leader, the almighty laborite God, the supreme immortal being, his majesty Roosevelt skeritt and his cabinet of clowns will have a filled judgement day. May they all burn in…
