One person found, investigations ongoing into missing vessel

The  Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) have confirmed that one individual by the name of Davy Rodney has been found following a joint search and rescue operation with the Maritime Rescue Coordinating Centre (MRCC) in Martinique.

The search and rescue operation was in response to a report about a vessel that was said to be in distress near the North East of the island on the evening of Saturday 20th April 2019.

The search was conducted the same evening by the Dominica Marine Unit with air support provided by the MRCC and according to the police, “nothing was seen.”

The police are reporting that Davy Rodney, who is believed to have been on board the vessel, was found at 12 pm on Sunday 21st April, 2019 on the shore at Marigot Bay and transported to the Wesley Health Centre by the Fire and Ambulance Services where he was medically examined and released.

A missing person report was also filed at the Wesley Police station for an Anthony Robin by a family member. Anthony Robin, who is described as a juvenile male of Woodford Hill, went fishing on a vessel on Saturday 20th, April 2019 and has not returned up to the time the report was made.

The missing vessel is described as being approximately 15 feet in length powered by an 85 Horse power Yamaha engine. The search continued on Sunday 21st and Monday 22nd April, 2019 with no positive result.

The police say that investigations are ongoing.

I hope the investigators take this opportunity to seize the boats and engines alleged to be owned by the northern parlrep who already owns his private jetty build with taxpayers money. The other ALLEGED close confidants of the PM who bring in the Haitians and shamelessly pick them up at Douglas-Charles on arrival must now face justice.

I call on the immigration department to release the names of all Haitian and Dom. Republic nationals who arrived here in the past 6 months so we can begin the task of identifying whose missing. The French are looking at us very very close now. Jah help us is this failed state

Are these people mad? That vessel is barely 15 feet long and was powered by a 85hp engine. My lawn mower has a more powerful engine than that. Imagine facing those massive swells in the channel in that tiny underpowered boat.

I am not familiar with Dominica maritime laws, so having said that, I am wondering if fishing vessels in DA are required to have the necessary GPS system that will allow the coast guard and other emergency personnel to locate vessels.
I know there was a push back on purchasing the equipment that became a requirement on another island until a couple of fishermen were rescued because of the equipment they had reluctantly installed. A few hundred dollars for an equipment that can safe lives can never be equal to lives. I am glad that one of them was found and is alive. And I pray that the other person is found alive and well soon.

I want to know what the Prime Minister or the govt has to do before police investigate. All other disappearances come from a police report.Looks like those who take in front looking for a smoke screen.

I just keep shaking my head at this half bit news. I’m assuming the person who was found is not a mute and could confirm whether the young man was on the boat with him and could also give the nature of the “distress” that was experienced aboard the vessel.

This is why people will never help or trust police in Dominica. Who does the vessel belong to? Since when do we have fishermen fishing at night? Especially sat night since no one sells fish sunday morning. Many fishermen have gone missing before, what was so important about this one that helicopter was needed? It seems like criminals are worshipped, protected and allow to walk free while people who stand up for citizens rights get harassed arrested and dragged to court. The CDPF should know better because people know what has happened and trying to pussyfoot with info only highlights what crooks we have running the place.
