President Savarin and Prime Minister Skerrit meet following Erika’s devastation in Dominica

President of Dominica, Charles Savarin, has commended the humility and magnanimity of spirit demonstrated by Prime Minister who he said was quick to realise that the rebuilding and restoration of Dominica required a united effort on all fronts, and invited the Parliamentary opposition to join the Cabinet Advisory Committee to chart the way forward for the country.

In an address to the nation at lunchtime today, President Savarin commented that it was equally magnanimous of the Leader of the opposition to accept that invitation.

“I now call on all supporters of the government as well as supporters of the opposition, whether at home or abroad, to set aside their differences and join hands with one another in this national effort of recovery. It is my hope and prayer that this Erika inspired bipartisan and unified approach in treating with the rebuilding of Dominica will bear fruit and will be sustained, sending the signal to all that we can be a stronger and more successful nation when we act in unison in all spheres of life,” Savarin said.

The President also congratulated citizens for the mature, responsible and law-abiding manner in which they have conducted themselves during this period of crisis.

“In many countries including the highly developed democracies, events such as these have forced the authorities to suspend some civil liberties in order to maintain law and order, as some citizens engage in unscrupulous acts against private and state property, further aggravating an already difficult situation,” he remarked.

However, Dominicans have confronted this crisis with calm, patience and maturity and it was therefore not necessary to suspend any of the basic rights and freedoms enjoyed under the Constitution, the President said.

  4. Thank You Mr. President for your words of wisdom and comfort as we go through the aftermath of Tropical Storm Erika.

When a disaster such of this happens we come together for the better good of each other. We put aside all party colours and become a united front; the only way if we care for our country and its citizens we can overcome the ravages of TS Erika.

Thank You, Your Excellency, we are in Solidarity with you, the Government and People of Dominica as we overcome this tragedy. I concur we are stronger if we all pull together as one. I ask God for strength and guidance for all those who are charged with the difficult task of rebuilding our country.

We mourn with You, the Government and People of Dominica especially those who have lost Loved Ones in the wake of TS Erika. Now is the time indeed for Dominicans all over the world to come together as one. We join you in thanking all countries and individuals coming to our help. God Bless You, Your Excellency.

You and Skerrit are as phony as a damn Dominica white six dollar bill!

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

It is hypocrite of both of you to sit there pretending you want unity; it is not over yet, you and Skerrit had your robots dressed in red embarking on your Venezuelan helicopter, going for a joy ride, talking about going for aerial view of damage to the island. If you wanted unity, why there were no one there dressed, in Blue, or Green, or any other color.

You people do not want any unity, it is politics as usual. Lennox was invited so that he can become the scapegoat when all fails!

Guess the olive branch was forced. I will refrain from saying to much now. 20 plus lives were lost and emergency apparatus was not prepared during the hurricane season. When “Dominica” complete this grieving process we will evaluate why so many lives were lost and what we need to do to better protect our citizens. After such long abuse and neglect I admire our people diaspora and at home for coming together to help our nation. Working together does not mean no disagreements but finding the best solution s from all sites through debate and discussion. The only commendation I extend is to the Dominican people who have been torn apart by politicians who neglect their real needs. 20 plus people died. Unacceptable. And please don’t say that is life.

No Charlo, bipartisan has always been the cry of the UWP but they have been kept out at all cost. Skerrit had no choice but to invite Lennox on board since he knows that if he were to continue with his normal practice of isolation, no free country like the US, Canada, Britain would help, so therefore he had to send a different picture because his back is against the wall. But knowing Skerrit I know once things start to take shape again he will go back to the real Skerrit of isolation.

Lennox proved to all that he is a unifier when in the absence of Skerrit, the morning of the storm, joined Blackmoore on DBS radio and called on the nation to unite. I would only believe that Charlo meant what he said if I had seen the following as proof of unity:

    1. If I had seen Mr. Linton sitting with them in photo above. The empty seat leads me to question his words.
    2. If from day one I had seen Lennox and Skerrit flying all over to visit the destruction of Erica, I would say yes, it’s a new…

DNO doing PR for Skerrit? There were other important points in the President’s address that could make the headline, not the President praising Skerrit.

Where is the normal news editor? Is he sick?

The PM has proven to be an exceptional leader! We must learn from this tragedy. Our Nation was hurting from all the hatred and division. Dominica shed tears on August 27th, the Paradise Gem had enough of all this animosity! People let us love each other, stop putting your trust in material possessions, stop competing with each other for luxury, instead, spread love.

PM, may the Almighty continue to bless you as you continue to steer the ship in the right direction, there is a lot of rough sea ahead, however, together we will all get there. Hats off to your caring wife, I felt chills in my body after viewing the pic of her changing the baby at DGS. You are in my prayers! Hold strong Dominica!

Charles Saverind thank you. This is a wake up call for us as a people, stop the chananigans and be one in purpose, Skerrit have to stop ruling like a dictator, apologise to the people for swearing at them, and his comments about no law. Dominica needs laws which will bring success, not laws to use against people freedoms but laws which will protect the people. Skerrit should undo the selling of the National park to his cronies. That was land belonging to the people, protected land. The magnanimous spirit must extend to making the wrong right. So Mister President God the ruler of the Universe have given Skerrit and You a warning, of his displeasure, and the people of Dominica suffered as a result. Undo the wrongs. Then together we will have the Meritocracy our Ancestors dreamed of. Evil will not prosper, and The Creator saw the evil in the land. Be warned.
