Dominica News Online has just received information of a rock fall which occurred a little earlier at Fond Canie on the Trafalgar Road.
Boulder-sized rocks have come loose from the adjoining hillside and rolled down onto the road, blocking it.
Vehicular access is not possible at this time.
I think this is due to weathering process and the joints/fracture of the rock..
I agree with the donkey man. I like the scene
World’s Moistest Jheri Curl, i honestly believe that you are just very uneducated or just plain stupid. this is because no where in the world can any government be in charge of any weather events and what these events can do or is capable of doing.
So to expect the Dominica Government to fortify the passageways in a country like Dominica with it’s terrain is just being a stubborn mule..
The lives of all Dominicans must be considered sacred. It is therefore imperative that everything humanly possible be done to protect and safeguard every individual who resides on the island. There is a consistent outcry from local residents about substandard roads, crumbling bridges, protruding boulders on steep slopes directly perching over some of the daily traveled roads., lack of guardrails, dimly lit thoroughfares. All these endanger the lives of all citizens.
For eighteen years these conditions have been allowed to persist under DLP rule. This is an uncaring, negligent, delinquent , recalcitrant, clueless regime. This is precisely what corruption does. Deplete government financial resources so not enough is left to fix the collapsing infrastructure.
To claim that poor road construction and maintenance is a staple of this government is no more than the musings of an angry bluebird. We have had landslides and rockfalls from time immemorial; what is not being said is that the new roads are built better than those that mimic colonial designs. Even with the best engineering rockfalls and landslides occur in the US and the best that can be done in the interest of drivers and pedestrians is to post alert signs and signals. Even if we should cut back all the slopes adjoining our highways to the critical angle of repose, frequent rainfall will infiltrate the porous pumice substratum and cause instability.
Winston, instead of engaging in personal attacks you have put forth a legitimate argument. I respect you for that. Having said that, let me ask this question. Why do we always compare our situation with the worst state of affairs elsewhere? Not because there are landslides and rock falls in the US we should be oblivious to the frequent ones in Dominica seemingly after every heavy and persistent downpours.
Signage helps but much more should be done to the most dangerous cliffs as they pose a existential threat to the citizenry.
A government’s top priority should be the security and safety of its people. There should be no excuses for pedestrians, commuters and motorists to be in constant danger of bring buried or crushed by these many too frequent landslips and fallen boulders.
The government is simply derelict in its duties to offer adequate and reasonable protection of its people.
We need to go back to the days of traveling by donkey
cuz the Gov’t isn’t doing enough to fortify our passageways and roads for vehicular traffic
I think that there should definitely be more donkeys brought back to DA. There is certainly a use for them.
