This makes me feel petrified. This is a serious matter. What’s the government doing? Do the people, have to do all of the governments work because they are doing nothing for us. They spend their time doing goodness knows what! It’s unlikely to be a lucky escape every time… Please do something ! Do we have to beg?

Yesterday we learnt the first tourist ship after Maria was in Dominica. With The Valley being a key tourist sight, what if this thing had happened to a bus loaded with tourists? Boy Dominica is not safe at all and every blessed day we getting evidence.

At 10pm on Saturday there was a further major landslide between the road and river at Antrim. The slide was directly below the lake that has formed below the road. This leaves the road all the more vulnerable to total collapse. The resulting earth movement resulted in the breakage of DOWASCO’s main pipeline.

On Sunday I reported the slide to Mr Pascal at Disaster Management out of concern for all road users, and in particular, out of concern for the coaches carrying cruise ship passengers en route to Emerald Pool.

I dont mean to say that it is about time…but it is about time. Too many hanging rocks and overhanging cliffs. We need start terracing these dangers and using gabion baskets. Plant vegetation on the baskets for beautification. see attached link if you need a visual for better comprehension.

Canefield cliffs are equally dangerous. I’m surprised no major rock fall occurred there as yet.

I’m really happy that the driver escaped with his life. Driving along some of these roads is a life threatening experience. Before we forget, security and safety is the first priority of any government.

Boy Robbie boy go back to your father’s business. what if these rocks had fallen on a coaster with tourist? since you became minister its been down hill for the tourism industry. The land is still not stable, please forget about the two months remaining in this season. If you have any decency left in you, you would resign. And with all this you went on a cruise, you know how much needs to be done, please go now!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was my first thought; we had a cruise ship in Port yesterday.

I hope they just do not allow tourists to the Roseau Valley for the time. Not that the lives of our own citizens is any less valuable. God is still on the throne.

Shut up, he/she never said that. You coming on here on an ongoing basis and try to speak your dirty DLP propaganda. Haven’t you noticed yet nobody is buying your stale fish. We can add up 2+2 and come up with 4, unlike you lot. The evidence is right in front of you but you can’t see. Blind, deaf, ignorant and dumb that’s your trademark.

you must be a vendor that ONLY want to sell trinkets to tourists. Or someone who solely depends on tourism to survive. Hence you will fully support the move to accepts cruise ships. WE ARE NOT READY!. this is affecting our overall product offering. the product isnt acceptable. why act like it is?. we need to be real about this people.

Not to mention the country on a whole looks like a dump. still has debris and mud everywhere. the place is not suitable to accept guest. When you house is in disrepair you do not invite people over. We have too much work to do still. the place is not even safe to walk around yet, there are accidents waiting to happen at every corner.

Driving from possi to Roseau is a daily hazard. Along the way i noticed cracks, in the cliff faces, overhanging and loose boulders allong several locations. The raised coasal terraces from Colihaut to Coulibistri area is showing signs of serious weathering and fracture. My fear is one day we will have a sudden rockfall while a bus load or two is passing. This has happened in Grenada and St Vincent before. These areas have similar geomorphology. These boulders weigh several tonnes and will kill instantly. We have to be proactive. The gov can reduce the risk by inspecting the cliffs and doing controlled rock fall an then place metal netting on th other areas. We can avert a major tragedy. This driver escaped but others may not be so lucky. We have to take these warnings seriously and be proactive. Hope someone listening.

It has become even worse since Maria. So many areas where they have to do controlled rock fall. Lord keep watching over us.

As usual Shaka Zula , you are right on the ball. The authorities need to prioritize. Repairing damaged roofs and constructing homes, restoring power and water, and ensuring that the many roads and bridges are in superlative condition should all be top priorities of the government. People’s lives become precarious when using too many of the roadways. One landslide, tourists get seriously injured or killed, and there goes the tourist industry. You would never hear the Senior Counsel and the PM’s surrogates expounding on these critical issues. They are too busy propagandizing.

      January 29, 2018

@ Shaka, Our government cannot afford to do all at once, do please bear in mind that we are a third world country and don’t have enough manpower plus merchineries to do all the work at once. Having said that yes we need to address most of those issues very soon.

        January 29, 2018

All we do is make excuses. I bet you if a sudden rock fall were to kill people they will find money. We are a third world country and we have social programs giving away money like we some industralized nation. Here is an opportunity to provide sustainable highd skilled jobs to our citizens. This could be part of climate resilience funding. We cannot go anywhere is our infrastructure pose a risk to public and visitors. Any government must have protection of life as #1 priority. If anything we should learned from maria is a situation will be made worst when you have a roof but not up to code. Guess that was not priority now we paying dearly. The rivers needed to de dredged continously but that was not priority so now we are paying dearly zoning was not followed we build in river beds, thatvwas not priority. Our cliffs pose a danger i know what i am talking about. However it is not priority unless people get killed. Guess safety of our people not priority.

We keep making excuses. The government have social services giving money like an industrialized nation. If someone were to be killed by a rockfall they would find money. If maria did not reach us to be proactive then we will perish. Roof not to code was not priority, building codes that say do not buil in river beds not priority, i have a landslide hazard map but engineering in these areas not priority. River filled from silf to boulder but continued dredging was not priority. Maria was made worst because non of the above was priority. The #1 priority of any gov is the safety of citizens so if we identify potential hazards we fix and not wait for magnified catastrophe.
