Several injured in Antrim accident

Passers-by assist an injured passenger

Several people were injured in an accident which took place at Antrim on Monday morning.

The accident involved a bus traveling from Grand Fond to Roseau with 12 people on board.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that at least four passengers received serious injuries.

DNO was told that the accident took place around 7:15 near the DOWASCO water tank in Antrim.

The passengers were assisted by passers-by who responded rapidly.

The Fire and Ambulance Services and the police quickly arrived on the scene. However, several of the injured were taken to hospital by private citizens but they were transferred to the ambulances they met on the way.

The cause of the accident has not been officially determined at this time, however, some of those on the scene said it could be an issue with the brakes.

DNO will publish more information on this matter as it becomes available.

The drivers need to slow down. I know we have better roads now but most drivers do not obey the speed limit (if there is one) Please slow down especially in the villages and towns, think of the people you are transporting and also the pedestrians. Hope all involved will be okay.

Hope the injured will recover in time.
Brakes do give way. I wonder when last the driver checked his brakes.

This is a dangerous stretch of road and I pray nobody was left with life-threatening injuries. However, one question sticks in my mind. Is this bus equipped with seat belts for passengers/ If yes, how is the wearing of them enforced?
Was the driver wearing a seat belt. Enforcement of this seems to have gone the way of most regulations in Dominica. We have a flash–in the pan police action which very rapidly melts away for the old bad habits to resurface. I am convinced that this accident would have produced fewer injuries if the driver and passengers had been wearing seat belts.

You see! We requested prayer for Dominica and Dominicans and we are seeing the results already. The Angel of death was attempting to strike again; but thanks be to the Almighty Father, none of our fellowmen perished in this Bus incident. God will continue to protect us. Some folks were ridiculing my prayer for my Country, but I know that God hears and answers prayer; else I wouldn’t have prayed.

When all you playing “MASS” and carrying on half naked in the streets, you all are not hypocrites; on Ash Wednesday everybody is a saint. However, when a child of God prays, he or she is a “hypocrite.” That’s how much damage the devil has done, by blinding the eyes of the self-righteous ones. Every one of us needs prayer. Once again, I thank God that there were no fatalities. And I pray for speedy recovery for the injured passengers who were on this bus. Amen

The bus drivers here need to have some kind of test. I have to say all the buses drive like wild as if they are in a race all the time. I am terrified when I take the buses. Glad there were no fatalities, but scary

true , but i’ts very hard to get a new vehicle in the country eh. To get a vehicle in Dominica the amount of money you have to pay is almost 150% of the price? So you technically buying two of your vehicle and an old one for parts.
So when an ole papa from Boetica ( not saying the driver is an aged man or from Boetica, just using that to tell the story) so when an ole pap from Boetica have his little old bus from when he was 40 years, you think he can afford to replace it? or just do what he can to keep it running?

That’s true. Unless if the person is in imminent danger, for example a fire or possible explosion.

This is a really old bus. It doesn’t appear to have airbags. How often are passenger vans inspected anyway? And what is the penalty for non-compliance?

As we grow older we should appreciate life, health and strength and not take it for granted. Prior to leaving home and while traveling we must pray to God and ask his protection.
I do understand people are too busy at that time, getting ready to leave home to go about their business and eager to arrive at their destination. However, we should try to keep God in mind at that time and ask for his Divine assistance. Then when we return, we should thank him.
As we go on our way, we could even softly hum a religious tune. Peace prevails.
Should the inevitable occur while traveling, then know that God is in control and He will do what is best as we should say, “Jesus, I put my life in your hands” or whatever relevant words we feel like saying.
Our God is a God of many chances. Our Lord Jesus Christ said, those who call on Him will be saved.
There could be a lot of talking, joking, laughing and music playing loudly that travelers may not give God a thought.
