The 32 year old son of Minister for Public Infrastructure in St. Kitts (the Hon. Ian Liburd) was shot and killed on Monday evening.
Mickail Liburd was on his way home to the community of Pine Gardens when unidentified attackers shot him. Despite his attempts to escape, he was gunned down and collapsed in nearby bushes. Reports indicate that he was then shot again at close range by his attackers.
St. Kitts police reported the incident occurred at t 10:15 p.m which coincide with reports of when the gunshots were heard.
Liburd’s corpse was later found near the bushes in a pool of blood.

Most heart-felt sympathy to the family and friends of the young man who has met an untimely death. Guns are much too easily accessible. The young males display an unimaginable level of intolerance and ignorance. If this sort of senseless violence continues unabated, the future of the entire Caribbean region is pitch-dark. Only the collective effort of an entire population will cause a U change to the present unacceptable mess that we have found ourselves in.
I am a Kittitian, I only state facts and they can be verified. I rather state a few facts than superimpose fiction over them to gain attention. One of the former Prime Ministers of St. Kitts and Nevis claims to have the solution to crime, but that same person told people several years ago to come to town and throw stones and claims to be bad from birth, also made statements I can incite; burn dem down and dem a hogs. When a person makes toxic and bellicose statements like those, especially while as the leader of the country what is expected from the youths? Is it possible that some Stone-throwers of yesteryear now have gun slinging children of today? We cannot feed pepper to bubbies and expect docile dogs. One has to set a moral standard worthy of emulating. In one of Daddy Chess songs, one of the Great entertainers from Dominica and by extension the Caribbean, he said Let Unity unfold and Leave Selfishness out in the Cold.
Your post reminds me of the utterances of a local political leader and a critical moment in the history of contemporary Dominica: “who cannot hear will feel,” time for “boots on the ground,” “boss doh touch me,” bring out the “koolwosh brigade,” all leading to a “D-Day” on February 7, 2017.
Boy that is so sad. I don’t know why they killed him but to kill anyone is very wrong and it’s even worse when it is the son of a sitting government minister. I do hope this kind of evil never occurs in Dominica because only God gives life and therefore only he should take it when he is ready. At the same time let me appeal to our policy makers, our leaders in the police force and our election controllers, just to name a few that they are to understand that people are angry especially by what both Maria and Erika did to them and therefore they should be very careful to serve the country with honor and dignity, from a pure conscience because though I am against violence and strongly condemn what happened in St. Kitts, if anything this gruesome murder should say to us that if people can’t get us they may pass their anger on those close to us. so like I said already I condemn it but at the same time let’s all treat it as a wake up call
The ancients told us, if you want to know someone, look into his/her eyes. A lot can be learn’t jus looking at his face, mis-guided + mis-education was his downfall. A vast number of African Oriented males, seems to have lost their way in all that is wrong to do, presently engulf in materialism, the end is always lurking nearby.
This kind of thing is just terrible. What a loss…..for absolutely nothing. My sympathies to his family. This kind of thing has to be stopped. It seems to be running rampant in the islands at this time.
So very sad, so much senseless violence in the Caribbean these days. I pray that his family and loved ones be comforted in this tragic time.
Oh my God! What’s wrong with the Caribbean? Are they trying to tell politicians that if they can’t get them they will go after their family? I hope that’s not the case neither do I believe that is the case but whatever be the case it’s bothering
Our sons and love ones are killed everyday in the Caribbean, politicians mustn’t mourn in the hell hole they in charge of too?
