Statement by Opposition Leader on the 1st anniversary of the passage of TS Erika

Fellow Dominicans at home and abroad:

One year ago, our country was devastated by the deadly flood waters of tropical storm Erika. Over thirty of our brothers and sisters mainly from the community of Petite Savanne lost their lives in a national disaster that left us reeling with widespread damage to roads, bridges, the national airport and other components of our public infrastructure.

The growth engines of our economy especially agriculture, tourism and manufacturing were severely battered. Hundreds of jobs disappeared disrupting the means of livelihood for thousands whose lives were torn apart, in some cases, beyond recognition. We empathize with the members of our Dominican family who lost loved ones, all those who remain displaced and all those who are still enduring the pain and hardships from tropical storm Erika one year later.

In the challenge to recover and rebuild, the support from friendly countries, development cooperation partners, our diaspora family members and our friends around the world was outstanding. We thank them all and encourage them to continue to stand with us as we seek to complete the task of reconstruction.

Our hope and prayer is that with more focused, patriotic leadership action that prioritizes and executes with excellence in the public interest, it will not be long before the national reconstruction effort delivers the greatest livelihood restoration benefits to all our brothers and sisters yearning for a return to normal living conditions and a better quality of life.

Big improvement. Most probably he has gotten some advice on how to deliver a positive opposition leadership statement. Good job Lennox.

It’s a very good Donald Trump type of flip flop statement. His public persona took another hit recently and he is trying some clean up and damage control.

All I’m asking is for Dominicans to read and listen to Hon. Linton’s statements during and post Erika. He is the same one who said the storm is being blown out of proportion, nothing very serious happened, the government is just using this as an opportunity to get sympathy and immorally beg for international assistance. Now he singing a new tune…PLEASE!!!

\”Johannesburg, South Africa — When Jacob Zuma, the man who would soon become South Africa’s president, told voters in 2008 that his party was essentially undefeatable, he spoke with earned bravado. His African National Congress (ANC) had already ruled South Africa for more than a decade and was on its way to a commanding victory in the following year’s national elections. But when Mr. Zuma repeated that sentiment in July during the campaign for local government elections, it felt far more hollow. In the eight years since the president had first promised the ANC’s immortality, Zuma and his party had lurched from one crisis to the next – massive strikes, economic stagnation, diplomatic scandals, …\” LABOR TIME IS NEARING. THEY THINK THEY OWN DOMINICA. WHAT A NATIONAL HOLIDAY WHEN LAZY…

  10. Mr. Linton Sir, this is the best I have read from you; do you think you can keep it up?

Wise statement, but there is a question I wish somebody would address.
The PM declared the village of Petite Savane a disaster area and as a result, residents were forced to abandon their properties and might be relocated. My question is, will they be forced to forfeit their right to whatever they may still have in Petite Savanne? What about those who still have loans? Will their loans be cancelled? Or, is it impossible to hear that area renamed as “Chinese town reservation ” as Petite Savane will be LEGALLY given to Chinese as part of the secret MOU?
Kalinagos better be careful as something is telling me that soon Skerrit might very well declare it the ‘rightful property of China’, just as he did to Bird Island, “During a visit to Venezuela, Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, in June 2006, stated that Aves Island belongs to Venezuela, ending the territorial claim” -https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isla_Aves

    With Skerrit, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE!!!

First, Mr. Linton you wisely lowered your tone, and for that I commend you. I sure felt Q95 ignored that very important date. That was very bad especially when one thinks of their coverage during the storm.

Secondly, have we done recovered? I mean as soon as you land at Melville haul and drive less than a mile north to Possie, you would swear we don’t have a government in DA. Then you drive on the west coast, and it is still a disaster zone as nothing has been done. The Pitete Savane people are still in Limbo, Boetica bridgel a deathtrap, Moune Rachette still without water, Colihault, Coulibistrie, Salsbury, and all that were affected by Erika are still the same. But the government saw an $18 million bridge in Roseau, to a foreign firm as priority. Somehow Skerrit finds it fit to play his politics by using his usual religious body with his day of prayer and thanksgiving. He can give thanks…………..he has not told us how much we truly got

Dominicans not ready yet. If he included the PM alu have something to say. Now he doesnt say anything about the PM its still a problem. Politics in every thing. Smh

When the nation was weeping and wailing it was Linton that went on DBS with Blackmoore to offer hope to the nation and then called for national unity, while Skerrit was caught and trapped with his corrupt friends, on his way from Macau dinning, cutting cake and signing his mysterious secret documents, just as Jonas was exposed for his rebellious in the belly of a wale.

Unfortunately though, since Erika not one thing has been done by this lazy government. In fact not even one bridge from the west coast has been cleared from the river as if to show their worthlessness. Since Erika all they did was run name school after Baroness Scottland, make fete all over, while they continued to paint Linton as the worse person on earth to Dominicans, to the point that he was asked to pay thousands upon thousands of dollars, simply for fighting for us and our interest, while they and their friends continue to get richer and richer.

Mr. Linton, I salute you, thank you for your patriotism.

I find Mr. Linton was particularly cautious with his words and refrained from criticizing the lazy, corrupt and inept Skerrit for the downward trend Dominica has taken, both pre Erika and post Erika. While I agree with Mr. Linton as the opposition leader to not use a very sad occasion to play partisan politics, I as a citizen of the commonwealth of Dominica sure will have no such mercy on Mr. Skerrit for his hypocrisy. Furthermore, I want to remind Mr. Skerrit that the day before Erika, he was seen in Macau signing papers and toasting glass with his corrupt friends, like NG, Ashe, Lorenzo and others, who in less than two weeks latter were ALL arrested by the FBI except Skerrit, for corruption, money laundering and fraud, and are currently on bail. Yet to date Mr. Skerrit, has not told us what he was doing there. I hope he remembers that while he was stock on his way from Macau, it was Mr. Linton that was there with us and asked all of us to put color aside in the interest of Dominica.

    At most a very lazy
job by this inept DLP,particularly the Macau CAKE CUTTER! Lorenzo,Ashe,NG,etc, would have done a better job!!

I noticed you have stayed away from criticizing the Skeritt led administration for the further disaster they have caused to this country since the passage of tropical storm Erika. That is very noble of you, you appear to have matured as a great politician.

I agree, this does indeed reflect maturity and wisdom. A monument for the victims is commendable and fitting but not at this time, when nothing can be done for the dead but the survivors still await rehousing and job opportunities. That is what we should be concentrating on right now.
