What was the rush? Never overtake and by no means around a corner. Take your time. Experienced and careful drivers never make that mistake. Fortunately there were no fatalities. I hope the injured are not badly hurt and will recover in time.

How COMES: You damn rude to suggest that we have 1950’s vehicles. you either live out of Dominica or you have never been to our island to cast such a remarks like that, so take that remarks back, because I am sure for a fact that you live in foreign land and you don’t drive a better vehicle than what my people are driving in Dominica. So you damn rude and out of place…

      Dear Cassie,
I came to Dominica last year as a tourist and what I experienced while travelling around on the Nature Island via bus was some different experience for me: while waiting for the bus to be ready to depart, the engine was running all the time (- is gas so cheap on the Natur Island? Is it good for nature anyway to let the engine run all the time? In my country=forbidden.)
None of the busses had head rests or working seat belts for all passengers.
For some reasion most of the bus drivers were speeding like they were trying to catch up the time they had lost while waiting at the bus terminal.
I have seen so many people with a missing leg or arm= the hospitals in Dominica might be good, but for sure are not well enough equipped to deal with all kind of bad injuries caused in car exidents.
So in the end -to me it is not only a question of when the car was built but how the driver is driving on roads like in Dominica!
I was scared many times- sitting on a bus or walking on roads without a pavement.
Drive carefully, with brain and without speeding!!!
      Peace!

Tina, it seems that you came to Dominica with a mind set on criticizing the drivers, the people, and everything else. Accidents happen everywhere, and I am 100$ sure that where you live have more accidents that Dominica can ever have. When you went to the hospital, did you ask the patients why their legs were amputated? Or did you just form your opinion on that too? You seem to forget that there are careless drivers everywhere in the world that we live in.

Suicide bombers, gypsy taxi drivers, kidnappers, robbers. I travel overseas, and I travel on hired buses and taxis, and they drive very quickly. Even once a taxi driver brought me to the wrong town, and I still had to pay him, because the meter was running. The number of people who die in accidents overseas, busses crash, train wreck, airplane crash, road collapsing, all sorts of accidents taking people lives, and leaving them paralysed or cripple. Please think before you critize the bus driver who is struggling to make a dollar..

If you do not want to board his bus, please don’t, as there are certified taxi drivers, who can take you where ever you want to go. Mostly diabetics get their legs amputated. Ask before you open your mouth to bad mouth people.

      DSC Student.

Hello and good afternoon to you. Well if you are a student at Dominica State College I am certain that you know and understand the English language therefore you should be able to write better than that. Anyway you still should used caution when passing another vehicle even if its stop because you are going in the other lane of traffic. It was simply poor judgement which cause this accident and . I hope everyone injured make a full recovery.

Road safety to given urgent attention in DA.This is is still a major public health problem which need urgent attention by the transport board
    Issues to be address to include;
Legislation on the wearing of ;selt bealts, helmints Also speed limits.
Traffic lights to install. Police to be provided with eqipment to conduct breathalizer test,as alcohol abuse is one of the factor contributing to those accidets
Congrats to government for drastically improving road coditions in DA But I think emphasis need to placed on Education for road users and enactment and enforcement of regulation
    Divers think safety first

    • November 17, 2013

      Quengi.

I agree because it seems as though the laws in Dominica are nonexistent or drivers just disregard them. I drove in Dominica for the first time in 2009 and I was terrified of how they drive on such narrow roads. The bus drivers pull up behind you and if you not pull over they want to run you off the road.

      • November 17, 2013

Sorry. The last sentence should read, The bus drivers pulled up behind you and if you don’t pull over they want to run you off the road.

  13. November 15, 2013

well the good news is noone did not die the bad news is that some children might not go to school for weeks.the worse news is that the driver of the blue bus that you see above both of his legs may be broken.

I really think certain areas should have speed limits and measures should be put in place to ensure those limits are kept, and that the rule breakers should be fined. If you are late, you are late and there should be no need for tragic accidents like these to happen. That’s so not nice.

I am not a bit surprised. The roads in Dominica are lawless and are used by some individuals as their playground. How on earth can one overtake without in corners, before a corner or without clear sight of the road ahead. Common sense in Dominica is not very common. Somebody that overtakes in a corner or bend should be put in jail and his licence removed for at least 10 years. Some of these guys are grazy. They must be on a suicide mission. Okay, kill yourself but do not put other innocent road users in jeopardy!!

  22. November 15, 2013

“Reports are that a double cab pick up truck was overtaking a bus when it ran headlong into another vehicle.”

People should overtake with CAUTION. All men, including the over-taker, could have died. WHAT IS THE RUSH? WE DO NOT HAVE ROADS TO OVERTAKE.

People let us not use our ignorance as a badge of honor once more. If we are not totally aware of the situation surrounding the accident, please refrain from making such foolish comments.

Upon approach of the corner the gentleman encountered a Coaster picking up students, he then went around the coaster to avoid a rear end collision, however the bus was already enroute hence the unfortunate accident which occurred.

Most of us are drivers let us pray for god’s guidance as the journey along these roads.
I wish all the injured a speedy recovery.

      God Bless

    • looking
      November 15, 2013

They are not included most likely because of the state of our roads. If it was so, as soon as the vehicles leave the port upon arrival the airbags would deploy.

      • just saying
        November 15, 2013

you obviously do not own or drive a vehicle. My 2006 vehicle has airbags (as so a lot of other Japanese made vehicles) and has not deployed due to the “state of our roads” as you imply. you think air bags just just deploy like that? the impact the vehicle receives during an accident may or may not cause the vehicle airbag to deploy. it depends. the bus i don’t know whether or not had airbag however you should not make stupid/ignorant statements like “They are not included most likely because of the state of our roads. If it was so, as soon as the vehicles leave the port upon arrival the airbags would deploy”
