UPDATE: Three dead in Antigua plane crash

Three people have been confirmed dead in a plane crash on Sunday afternoon at the VC Bird International Airport in Antigua.

The accident occurred around 4:00 pm.

Media reports indicate that the pilot and a passenger of Fly Montserrat Islander aircraft died on the scene when the plane lost altitude and crashed during take off. Another passenger was later confirmed dead at hospital by the authorities.

Another passenger is in critical condition at hospital.

The pilot of the aircraft has been identified as Jason Forbes. The names of the other victims have not been released.

Reports suggest weather may be a factor as heavy rains and thunder were reported around the time of the crash.

The airport was shut down but has since been re-opened.

this is very sad for real Friday a plane went down two died in Dominica republic off to Puerto Rico, then Saturday 19 down in St Barths, and on sunday 3 in Antigua, and today one plane down missing in the virgins how sad these times are, we are in the last days give god thanks and praise for life and hope when our time comes we have already been prepared and ready for life after death. tragedy can happen any where if you don’t even leave your house it would still come find you, one guy was not even in a plane but his house when one if the engines of the twin otter came into his house and kill him, also we cannot do anything but follow our mind and souls for it leads us in and out of trouble. Also a few Montserratians missed that flight, and was desperate to board but the flight was already closed and they would not let them on, a next montseratian took an earlier flight, but i guess it was not their time but a warning to give them a chance to get their heart right with the lord, i’m no paster or Christian, but God is real. may they souls R.I.P. :-?

To God be the glory! It has been a sad time for two young women from Dominica living in Antigua, for they both lost their husbands so soon.. The killing of one and the plane crash of the other.. May the lord give them the strength that they need to see this through.

It has been confirmed that the deceased are:

The male pilot. A Jamaican female living in Monsterrat. A Guyanese female visiting Montserrat for the first time.

Thankfully, there was one survivor, a male (nationality unknown) has a few lacerations and a broken ankle.

Montserrat is going through some serious unsettling situations at present. As only a few days ago, a Jamaican male residing there brutality murders a Guyanese man.

It is the decision the decision of the pilot in command and not of any ATC controller to take off.

This is very sad. If the weather was bad with rain and thunder the pilot should have been advised not to take off until the weather subsided.
Sorry to hear that he and a passenger died. May their souls rest in peace. May God strengthen the family as they mourn the loss of their loved ones.

I’m still in shock by this. Rip to two beloved people you are gone but not forgotten. I wonder if its gonna take something this tragic for the GoM to do something about those death trap planes of FlyMontserrat. First the brakes gave way on the runway in Montserrat now this. The damn owner is too busy pocketing profits than giving those planes proper servicing. Keep raising up the damn fares and making silly excuses. The man is a monster he is heartless.
May the souls of the departed rest in peace!
