Two injured in Fond Cole accident

A young man and his girlfriend were transported to the Princess Margaret Hospital following an accident in Fond Cole early Saturday morning.

Details surrounding the accident are sketchy but eye witnesses told Dominica News Online that around 12:30 am the couple was standing at a bus stop when a vehicle smashed into another vehicle which it appeared to be overtaking, injuring the couple in the process.

Reports suggest that speeding may be a factor.

A large crowd soon gathered and the police were called while the couple was rushed to hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

Both vehicles involved were extensively damaged, eye witnesses say. However, the condition of the drivers is unknown.

DNO is seeking information from the authorities and will publish it as soon as it becomes available.

The driving is Dominica is appalling -this driver should be thrown in jail. He will no doubt be blaming someone else -be cause it could certainly not be that he was speeding or that he did not have s license.

This is very disturbing. To think that road safety has come to mean so little in this country. So many injured and so many lost their lives when it could have been so easily avoided.

I feel sorry for those hurt. Ask for the driver who I was told fled then sceen, I don’t have anything good to say.

How could the driver knock down the two people at a bus stop? Was he intoxicated and was driving too fast to the extent that he could not control the vehicle and ran into them? I hope the driver is given a breathalyzer test. This should be mandatory whenever a vehicular accident occurs.
Is the bus stop too close to the road? It all depends on its location. There should be ample sidewalk space between the bus stop and the road.
If the roadway was improved and made bigger, bus stops should be considered. They should not be close to the road. Traffic Department authorities take note.
I hope the couple’s injuries are not life-threatening. I wish them well.

Obviously you do not know where the Fond Cole bus stop is located. Otherwise, you would not be asking such rediculous question about the location of the bus stop. Secondly, there is a pedestrian crossing, which means, vehicles should be driving at a minimum speed to allow for pedestrians to cross if it becomes necessary.

You do not know those who respond or where they reside. Therefore, be respectful of your comment. Your response lacks respect and consideration. You spelled ‘ridiculous’ wrong. Learn to spell.  The manner in which you respond, depict one who is a pagan, anti-social with no common sense, ignorant and unintelligent.  Why else would you respond in such a manner to someone whom you do not know whatsoever?
Who are you to make such a comment? I am no more ridiculous than you are. I am far from being ridiculous. I asked a normal, sensible question. I did not deserve your insult. You have projected your true color. Who are you anyway? You should have sensibly asked yourself, “Is this person familiar with Fond Cole or does this person reside in Dominica? This is what an intelligent person would have asked prior to insulting another and whom they do not know. You do not have the sense and learning to respond amicably. You are the stupid one that you cannot respond amicably. Learn it. In future learn how to respectfully respond.
I do not reside in DA which is why I made the comment. I know some of the roads are widened. Therefore, those who are involved in road-construction should have had the common sense to take it into consideration and leave some space between the sidewalks/roads and bus stops. It is easy for a vehicle to lose control, run off the road and plough into a bus stop especially if making a turn.
In the city I reside, some drivers have got heart attacks or some other ailment while driving and have ran into bus stops, injuring people. The sidewalks are between the bus stops and the roads.
If the bus stops are close to the roads, then the government should do something about that.

Accident happened… lesson learnt… move on! Dominicans too like to open their mouth about foolishness.

Wha u want sleeping police on the whole road? Even in places with 35km/h speed limit people still dying in traffic accidents. We’re not perfect and stuff happen. Keeps population down, people employed hush!

It’s unfortunaten that bystanders and pedestrians sometimes suffer the consequences of our foolishness when we are in the driver’s seat. As far as I know you can only be late once. whether you are 5 minutes, 20 minutes or a couple hours late, you’re late, it definitely better to be late than sorry. I remember a young lady passing me on the street driving I’d have to say 60-70 miles on a 35 mile lane road. When I saw her I cautioned her about it she said to me I drive like I’m driving Ms. Daisy. A few days passed I did’nt see her and was told she totalled her car and in turn send a guy to the hospital. What is it worth to drive at such speed? when going to work I make allowance for traffic jams and anything that might and can go wrong. I remember looking at my watch once and realizing I’d be like 10-15 minutes late for work and there was no way in hell I’d be on time for work, so I called the job told them i was running late and I’d be there in the next hr. I took my time made a few stops took a few pictures of nature got back in my car and headed to work. I’m hardly ever late for anything so this was my once in a lifetime to just saver the moment. Drive safely folks and remember “BEING CAREFUL IS MORE DISIRABLE THAN RISKING BAD RESULT”.

speed bumps, traffic lights, Stricter traffic laws would help. I came down to Da in 2010 and everytime I put my seatbelt on I would hear, “you not in America uno”. seatbelts do aid in lessen trauma in car accidents; there’s a reason why they are in cars.

    October 6, 2012

I see no need for people to be speeding in those times. People take your time on the road, their are lives to be saved here and most times could be yours. Hope the young man and his girlfriend is doing fine.

saving indicates: already dying, in peril/ danger or requires help out of a situation.

If u mean lives to be weary of or careful with, that’s a whole other ball game.

      That said, Good luck D/ca…

      DNP or ‘DNO’?
For whose purpose should DNO keep a record? You have a computer system and you read the news on DNO. Why do you not keep a record? I do not think it is the responsibility of DNO to keep a record of vehicular accidents and deaths for the information of users. Furthermore, the police department has a record and also the government, the latter, specifically for deaths. In addition the politicians should take note and address these serious issues pertaining to accidents and deaths on Dominica’s roadway. They are too many of them especially in these times. My suggestion is, since you read the news, you can keep your own record.

it has not been two months since my uncle was struck to his death the guy that did it is still on the road driving i mean really dominica really it was for overtaking we never learn do we still overtaking the couple could have been killed what is this country coming to? when is there gonna be a lesson to learn? when????????????????????????????????????

      October 6, 2012

Sorry to hear of your uncle’s passing. I may have previously read of this accident.
Is this not upsetting that a relative was killed in an accident or others for that matter and the one who is guilty of this is still driving and walking around as if he did nothing? It is not fair. That man should be imprisoned for a long time. This is a worldwide situation.

I KNOW THT IT IS COSTLY, BUT THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO INVEST IN SOME ELECTRONIC DEVISE, LIKE WHT IS IN COUNTRIES LIKE GUADELOUPE. IT IS SHAPE LIKE A BOX, WITH AN INBUILT CAMERA, SO WHN U DRIVE ABOVE THE SPEED LIMIT, IT REMOVES THE PICTURE OF THE VEHICLE AND IT’S NUMBER PLATE, AND A TICKET IS SENT TO U THROUGH THE MAIL. THIS DEVISE IS CALLED IN FRENCH { WADA }, AND TRUST ME, THIS DEVISE WILL PAY FOR ITSELF. THIS IS ONE OF THE WAYS TO HELP PUT A BRAKES ON UNNECCESSARY FAST DRIVING, OTHER WISE, WE WILL LOOSE ALL OUR YOUNG PPL.

Good idea for the equipment on the road like what they have in gwada. I like the name. It reminds me of soso-wada.
Its a radar for over speeding vehicles. It can be both static and mobile.

Biggest mistake the govt ever did was not putting a barrier down the middle of that road. Buses especially stop wherever they please, park in the middle and have no issues about driving over the central divide to turn for another passenger. There are bus stops, why cant the drivers use them.
That two lane racetrack i fear has not finished claiming lives along the Pottersville/Woodbridge stretch. I wait for a speeder to lose control and hit the former Cove after reaching max speed coming out of town. it’s a when, not if.
