A young man has died and his girlfriend is now nursing serious injuries at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH), following a major road accident which occurred in the Penrice area on Sunday 5th July 2015.

At the same time, a road collision in Pottersville has left a Goodwill man with severe injuries to his head and ribs and he is also a patient at the island’s main hospital.

Police PRO ASP Claude Weekes, who spoke on the both accidents on Monday 6th July 2015, via a live interview with state-owned DBS Radio, said that the Penrice accident occurred between 3:00 pm and 3:30 pm.

He said the rider, identified as Burt Esprit, 23 of Despor, “seemed to have lost control” of his motorcycle and plunged into a 32-foot precipice along with his girlfriend, Nadia Simon, of Campbell.

He informed that they were both “very badly injured” and were removed from the precipice by emergency personnel and civilians and were transported to the Accident and Emergency department of the PMH.

When they arrived they were examined by a medical doctor and Esprit was officially pronounced dead, while Simon was admitted.

The motorcycle itself is extensively damaged, he noted, adding that a coroner’s inquest will convene in the case of Esprit to be followed by a post mortem examination.

“The investigations are continuing,” Weekes stated.

The PRO is also reporting an accident which occurred in the Pottersville area at roughly the same time of the Penrice accident.

He said a car, registration number PA847, was being driven by Creamy Blanchard, 34 of Benna Wavine, along the Pottersville Public Road when it struck Kimon Cadette, 33, of 40 Goodwill road, while he was crossing the road.

Cadette sustained serious bodily injuries, particularly to the head and the ribs.

He was transported to the Accident and Emergency department for examination and he is now a patient of the PMH.

The car was “very badly damaged,” Weekes said.

Meanwhile, there were no serious injuries resulting from a major three-vehicle accident which occurred on the Citronier public road on the evening of Friday July 3, 2015.

The accident involved a Suzuki SUV, a bus and a car.

All occupants of the vehicles involved in that accident, are said to have sustained minor injuries.

Visited recently from the New Jersey and did make reference to that frighteningly dangerous precipice with absolutely no guard rail…If you’re not mindful, might miss the fact of the extreme danger in that area…..Now that motorist has lost his life, I hope the relevant persons or department will do the necessary in making our roads safer and will not wait for more deaths in that area..
May the soul of that young man rest in peace….His family be comforted and the young lady a speedy recovery with strength to deal with her lost and the situation on a whole. …
It’s a horrible thing to lose your loved one in that sort of way….One minute the person is here and in a heart beat, they’re gone. …very sad…

I think I will have to cease thinking that everything in D/ca is OK. Only today I had this thought of no accidents, etc. Just when you think all is well, this occurs.
I am so sorry to hear of these accidents which caused a death and the other injuries.
I know some Esprit’s. Of course, he is a young one.
My heartfelt sympathy to his family. God’s consoling power and strength be with you.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul rest in peace. Amen!.
    May God heal the injured.

Well sympathy to the family. But it still seems people regard safety for their own self. Usage of headgear should be mandatory u might never know it could save your life even though you are unconscious.

We have lost a lot of our youth in motorcycle accidents. I personally have lost 3 childhood friends over the years.

Having said that, I have seen videos of these kids on their bikes showing off with little or no protective gear. We are luck not to have lost more of them.
