UPDATE: Search continues for missing 17-year-old Micael Mitchel

Police, coast guard, fire department, SSU and ambulance personnel have all joined the search for missing 17-year-old Micael Okwan Mitchel of Fond Cole.

“He is missing and presumed dead,” said police spokesman, inspector Claude Weekes.

Mitchel went missing on Sunday after his friends reportedly watched him get swept away by the strong current of the Boeri River in Canefield. He has still not been found.

The young man’s mother, Bankley Cuffy, said she last saw her son at around 11 am on that dreadful rainy day. She said she had a chilling feeling that that would be the last time she ever saw her son alive.

She was informed of his disappearance sometime between 5 and 6pm by one of her son’s friends that accompanied him to the river.

According to the boy, Micael Mitchel lost his balance while fooling around as he attempted to cross the Boeri River.

My heart and sympathy goes out to the parents. In times like this they need all the love and support that they can they get. First and formost they need to turn to the Lord for strength and guidance. I am a parent too. It aches when you loose a loved one.

If all you want people to find him, where is his picture…………. stupes. Think before you all put news on DNO. I want to know who I have to look for. And you all have a habit of putting who pictures all you want to put online. All them rapists, murderers, thieves and the likes; their pictures need to be seen so then we can know who is who, and protect ourselves and our families from these wierdos. It always bothers me as to why you all putting one set pictures and hiding others, I wonder why?

Oh Jesus Christ. Mam or Sir, it is illegal to put someone’s photo or release their name if they are NOT charged! Someone can be arrested or brought in for questioning and not charged. When the police charges someone, that means police has sufficient evidence to do so. What would happen if you Miss Blogger were to be brought in for questioning in relation to a crime – yes just for questioning – and we reveal your name and photo and then the police release you without charge, how would that look? That’s the reason it is illegal to do so. The man who allegedly had sex with the cow was charged and before the courts, so it is legal to place his name, though as a sexual offender, there are policies surrounding sexual cases and release of identity. The man who is CHARGED with the murder of the Bajan… his name and photo can be released because he is CHARGED. We do not have a photo, hence why it was not released. We do not have a database of photos waiting to be released. We publish WHAT IS available to us. The last time we checked, no media house has a Cabinet of 70,000 photos of every last Dominican, waiting to be released in case of them gets into the news. If you know of such a filing cabinet, let me know. Sheesh!

Something about that story sounds fishy. Where in Canefield is there a river that big for somebody to be lost this long? I saw the river yesterday and that does’nt sound correct.

I have kids and kids will always act like kids my prayers are with the family. May God grant you the courage to accept the thing you cannot change, living one day at a time accepting hardship as the pathway of peace, trusting that God will make all things right. God bless you and your family.

I believe that the search and rescue has been good but we need a National Search and Rescue Team comprising Public Safety officials and the civilian community and we need to educate our nationals about managing their own safety considering that we are such a volnerable island as relates natural disasters…I do hope the remains are found. I wish to empathize with the family and ask them to remain strong.
