Erika delays opening of abattoir

Agriculture Minister Johnson Drigo has said the opening of the much talked about abattior has been delayed by the passage of Tropical Storm Erika.

However, he said, work is underway to have the facility up and running.

“We are moving on with the plan for the opening of the abattoir, we are a bit delayed again because of the effect of Erika,” Drigo said on state-owned DBS Radio.

He said the abattoir’s water intake was damaged by the storm.

“But we have assessed and preparing to do the relevant renovation works,” he noted.

Drigo said revealed that some 2,000 broilers that were initially expected to come from the United States of America (USA) for the testing of the abbatoir, will now be coming from Barbados before year’s end.

He also noted that EC$4-million, set aside by government to support farmers in pig and chicken production, remain on stream.

Authorities say the abattior costs about $10-million, financed by Venezuela. They say upon completion it will have a capacity output of 1,000 birds per hour and 50 pigs per day. They say it was being built to ensure food security, reduce the import bill and to provide employment in Dominica.

The facility was set to be completed by October 2013.

After that various deadlines were given for its completion including January 2014 and March 2014.

DNO, I am wondering, is there something wrong with your Website and/or Server?

Admin: something might be malfunctioning on the site; unless it set up that way, something is causing it to automatically eliminate; reject some comments; i. e., I made a correction to my comment in which I said Murphy’s is a blessing; in reality it should read “Murphy’s law is a blessing to Dominica.”

It was posted, however within seconds it was eliminated, now unless someone is sitting there at approximately after midnight Dominica time, monitoring every submission, as submitted, and eliminating comments, one ca only come to the conclusion the site is not functioning properly.

There (that) seems a long existing problem!

Well, since Erika killed and washed away all the millions,of pigs, and chicken Skerrit need to operate on a monthly basics, and they are all dead, so too everything is dead in its tracks.

Murphy’s is a blessing to Dominica.

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaah!

Yes sir; anything that can go wrong, it will go wrong in de nature island, I do not know why god Skerrit the Mounting Chicken Crapo Mentality god did not see that coming and stopped it he is happy he can blame it on the hurricane, the same like how big eye, Popeye Ian Douglas blame the Arab Spring for the completion of his golden Moroccan hotel built on a sinkhole!

Your comments are depressing and discouraging to those as you who do not know better. Who can learn anything from your comments? They are consistently negative, debasing and uninspiring. I have concluded that is the type of person you are and sadly so. Can you not state something good for once?
Pray for yourself in California, if this is where you reside that the big one (earthquake) will not occur and soon. In your ignorance you are not aware the evil that you spew and that you are heaping burning coals on your head

Shut up facts, one day you are for Skerrit, and his Cabal, the next day you are against him!
You are neither here nor there; you claim you are from Skerrit’s village, hoping because you claimed to be from his village you will get a free hand out from him!

Now we hear you are from a village to the far south!; and hiding in Pickering up there in Canada, the next time I am in Toronto, I will visit Pickering just to find you oui! We (doh want anybody like you who do not know where you came from, nor your name in our northern territory). When it comes to that, since Skerrit and I are kings from our Northern Kingdom, he will join forces with me to chase you from the North.

Here you are talking about hate, was it hate when said you not sending any more of your money to Dominica? You said you doh sending money to Dominica when Skerrit allows his colleagues too much free concessions. Have you forgotten already?

Erika seems to have punished Dominica in every area like God punished Pharoah and Egypt with the 10 plagues man? Those spiritual advisors of Skerrit not seeing that man so they could tell Skerrit he needs to stop hardening his heart?

I mean everything the man invested in got attacked. The Abattoir, the airport, the EO Leblanc Highway, I guess those banana plants from France got affected to, petro Caribe, even his minister of Housing and second in rank and co-boss of Petro Caribe got touched to?

I am not rejoicing over this but I would be foolish to not see that, since it is similar to the story Evangelist Peter R Augustine use to tell us about from Exodus chapters 7-12

You are judging him. Do you not know you are not to judge anyone? Do you think you are perfect? By no means. Your words give you away, far from perfect.

What an ignorant view. Skerritt is only one person. Your statement is senseless as personally he has suffered minimally from the ravages of Erika. Out of respect and empathy for those who have and continue to suffer, I suggest you pick up a shovel or cutlass and get busy rebuilding your country.

This is the funniest thing I have read! After the Tropical storm Erika not one Government official visited the abattoir!! Why because there was a huge landslide between them on both sides to get to the abattoir!! WELL!! GUESS WHAT!!! The large landslide fell and cut off anyone getting to the abattoir!!! it took 15 days for them to open the road!! No visits from the Government at all!!! The landslide has not been cleared at all properly!! If there is rain again all the mud and rocks that are still at the side of the road will fall and block it off again! WHAT A JOKE! This abattoir will never ever succeed! Firstly a lot of the animals have died in Erika. Wake up and smell the coffee Dominica! This is not ever going to happen!………………………………………………………….

TS Erika The scape goat. News should at least be “another delay in abattoir opening, this time by Ericka”. Pretty soon erika gioing to take blame for all headache tooth ache, no new hospital and everything else. We are already set up to believe we were set back 20 years. However,. 80% of roads and tourist sites are normal after a month and a few days. Psychology at work. One thing I give PM his due. He knows how to work it. Performance in Barbados, international begging tour coming up. I say take advantage.. Lol

      October 5, 2015

Kudos to you. You’ve hit the nail on the head so the PM’s tricks not working. Erika will be blamed just the same way the global economic of 2008 is still being blamed.

    October 5, 2015

Totally understandable. TS Erika will push many projects back but with the grace of God, I am confident we will get there; any reasonable person will understand that. Dominica is blessed land and twe all are fully aware the destruction could be so much worse.

South Carolina we know what you are going through.

Poor Erika. If Erika had really hit us what would have happened?
So now everything that’s wrong in the country is blamed on Erika. We have no agriculture but we blame Erika for $200,000,000.00 (Two hundred million dollar) loss in agriculture. Where is the loss, 5000 birds in the Roseau Valley, landslide on some farm roads and some small farms that lose produce. I sincerely hope that the loss is not being exaggerated because woa be onto us when the international community catch us lying.

I can’t believe what I’m hearing! Live chickens for testing the abattoir were supposed to come from the U.S.A.? Isn’t the whole purpose of building this white elephant to cut the importation of chickens, especially from the U.S.A.?
I am not going to buy a chicken processed by that place. I am not confident that I will not end up with salmonella or listeria. If all else fails, I will raise my own in the backyard.

But the price of chicken has already increased due to tax increase with additional expenses that home owners already facing because of the passage of the storm.

Gas is finishing faster than usual because water has to be boiled. (The taste of the bleach doesn’t taste very pleasant in the water and boiled water taste much better.) Relief water is for one set because is one set that was affected by the storm.
