Over $1M allocated for agricultural investment

A total of $1, 723,165 has been allocated for investment into the agriculture sector, according Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit during his delivery of the third-quarter supplementary estimates in parliament this morning.

Skerrit said out of this amount, a total of $1,443,165 was requested for horticulture – a section of the industry which has seen increased productivity in recent times.

“By and large we continue to see increased output in this area. However, government expects that given the level of investment being made… that output would be greater,” he stated.

Skerrit also mentioned a total of $280,000 issued to Wincrop to compensate farmers after damages from Hurricane Tomas last year.

“The government was called upon to assist Wincrop in meeting compensation claims to farmers who were adversely affected by Hurricane Tomas in October 2010. A credit facility of $280,000 was given to Wincrop for that purpose. This was made possible from disaster relief funds provided by the People’s Republic of China,” he stated.

We are really becoming a begging country.
How are we going to payback China? by begging them for the money to pay them back?
But as Hon. Timothy said, they will wipe out the loan….. I really hope so…. :?: :?: :?:

Dominica turning into a Bosta slave country like the rest of the Caribbean, I hope Dumbnicans can eat the concrete, plywood and galvanize from the statehouse project when agriculture is no longer existent on island with the exception of French, European and American genetically modified, imported goods. Rest assured, your mis-leaders will be able to afford the good stuff from the few remaining farmers with expensive produce, will you? They will also be able to import their own goods from abroad for consumption, will you?

I guess we can eat the left over scraps from the plates of our masters( I mean leaders) after they are done enjoying their state house dinners! Devilupment is here at long last!

I guess we done with fig and plantains and coconuts and things like that.

1.7 million for investment in agriculture? That’s it? We couldn’t even take a little bit from the hotel project in Possie or a little from the state house project to help our poor farmers? This is shocking to me.

I know fig almost dead, but what percentage of Dominica’s GDP is currently generated by agriculture? The last time I read, agriculture accounted for 33 percent of the country’s workforce and accounts for about 50 percent of the country’s GDP. Why so little is invested in agriculture is puzzling to me. HELP!!

You have a point. Simple and to the point. to the current one person who disliked it: you have free will to feel opposed but this is true. We are abundant and we need to appreciate that fact.
