BREAKING NEWS: Gov’t suspends debates on parliamentary Order Paper

Skerrit addressed the nation on Thursday

Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has announced that he has advised the Speaker of the House of Assembly Alix Boyd-Knights that Parliament should be adjourned without further consideration of matters that are presently on the Order Paper.

He said in an address to the nation that it is the best way to avoid confrontation.

Parliament convened on Tuesday to debate a number of matters, including an amendment to the House of Assembly (Election) Act. However, the opposition has made it clear that it will not support the amendments on the basis that they will legalize treating and bribery.

A crowd gathered outside parliament on Tuesday to show opposition to the amendments and at one point warning shots were fired by the police.

“Accordingly, I have today advised the Honourable Speaker of the House, that Parliament should re-convene as agreed tomorrow morning, but adjourned without further consideration of matters of the Order Paper. This is the best way I believe for us to avoid obvious confrontation that others are seeking,” the Prime Minister said.

He stated that he will not put anyone in harm’s way in relation to the matter.

“I will not expose members of Parliament, staff of the Parliament, the media, visitors and other interest groups to threats of physical danger by mob-like rioters, acting at the behest of their leader,” he said.

He said failure to pass the amendments and the other laws in a timely fashion is not too a high price to pay.

“Failure to pass this and other laws in a timely fashion is not too high a price to pay for minimizing the threat to life, limb, and property in Dominica,” he noted. “The Government of Dominica is not intimidated by the threats of violence. Equally, however, we are not disposed to exposing innocent Dominicans and indeed members of the same potentially riotous mobs to potential harm and danger.”

Honorable Roosevelt Skerrit has once again shown concern for the lives of citizens of this country. Skerrit was sent by God to promote peace and I have a deep respect for him. He is humble and has a level of maturity that is unmatched in the Political arena in Dominica. Like the honorable Prime Minister I am urging Dominicans to refrain from the violence and criminal acts that is encouraged by Lennox Linton. We are on the verge of becoming like Jamaica where Political leaders will begin arming political gangs to carry out their plans and to claim territory, after which only death and bloodshed will follow. That is not the Dominica that I want my son to grow up in.

Many Dominicans think Skerrit did a noble thing in backing down, but ask yourselves how noble, genuine or true of a leader Skerrit really is to determine that such a Bill would be required in Dominica?
This is not a partisan issue really..this is a question of allowing Dominica’s democracy to be compromised and trampled upon. Skerrit is not real, if he was he would not try to grab power and exalt himself as God over Dominicans. He is a sick man and the only good thing about him calling this off is that it prevented a terrible clash but not because he is genuinely remorseful for trying to legalize bribery. This is disgusting coming from a Prime Minister..So many more important issues to deal with in Dominica but he’s trying to secure his perpetuation in Office through legitimizing the illegal..Grow a Conscience Skerrit..and this has nothing to do with UWP or DLP, the problem is Skerrit’s ego and the failure of his supporters to think for country..Kudos to the protesters who stood…

A message to the minority Socall Workers Party +supporters you lots jumping about like gorillas shouting victory, victory no their was no victory we all lose. Prime minister doctor Skerrit, and his administration played a brilliant shot on the lot of yous and everyone of you could not see the ball coming to hit you lots having said that .We labour supporters are one big family you hit one you hit all, We are the majority we will beat you guys at the general elections any time of the day Workers Socall minority party is all about Losers nothing more    …..have a good day.

    • But Man Eat Raw Dog, how many times will I have to call you an idiot!

      Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

Even when you try to put your best foot out writing, I always find something stink in it: i. e., “socall.” It should be written thus. ‘ So called;’ whereas you wrote “socall” twice that conforms you are a dunce, like all the rest of your big red devils family. Good for you UWP supports do not want to have anything to do with blood devil people.

Now, seriously; for you to make the statement that everyone lost because Skerrit pretend he suspended the passing of the Bill is a stupid comment. Are you so, bomb to realize that perhaps for the first time Dominicans including Roosevelt came out ahead on this one, in that he was about to get an unlawful law passed that would allow him to fly people in to vote illegally in elections. And if he looses in the future, that law would influence new governments to indulge in the same illegal practice of importing voters?

The fear is the PM, his cabinet, and their money grabbing high up in society supporters are seeing that there are patriotic Dominicans who are putting aside party politics and putting Dominica first , who have seen the draining of our National finances for the development of Dominica are serious.
The Government and crew now realizes that there will be very serious consequences in the end, like the end of their terms and fearing time in jail they were looking for a way to stay in office for many years to come. But this is not the end, the end will be when they leave office, everyone. We must not stop saying to them every time we get…. SKERRIT MUST GO.
We must not forget also in this struggle the Brother Angello Alleyne who opened our ears to hear and our eyes to see the Corruption that was taking place in the name of Dominica. Thank you Angello Alleyne, and your side kick Arrandell Thomas. You are BRAVE DOMINICANS. SO WE CONTINUE, SKERRIT MUST GO,SKERRIT MUST GO, SKERRIT MUST…

Since decolonization by racist England, not one of the former colonies be it Africa or the caribbean have been able to master the divide and rule form of this so-called democracy that was passed on to them.Take Dominica as an example, every one of the elected officials with the exception of the brother from Salybia belong to the African race, their language both bodily and verbal, show a very low level of what human relation should be ,animals of the same kind tend to get and work along much better. the low level of respect that entails among the ones empowered with taking care of the nations business has left a lot to be desired, and it will get much worse before there is a positive curve. Dominicans must raise their consciousness and seek a new form of education in getting out of this present mire. Dominica has to turn within to find the answers, you won’t find it in religion, Christianity as it is has been a mighty failure. let truth be the guide.Bob.Hotep.

Folks I am very doubtful Skerrit made this decision out of concerns for Dominica image and Dominicans safety. I am of the belief that he was forced by an INTL Force which told him that this unrest in Dominica must stop immediately!!!!
Questions that I am asking is 1,2&3:
    1. Is it that the US Medical school and students would be asked to leave Dominica?
    2. Was USA Visa given to Dominicans at risk?
    3. Was their a potential for Travel Band to be implement for USA visitors and USA agencies conduction business with Dominica?

    These are only Questions……

A country where the government intentionally lies to the nation to keep the people uninformed.
A country where the masses continue to live in abject poverty while the government continues to misuse state resources and educated men and women who should know better, sit quietly and applaud the rubbish of this crap government.

As someone who regularly criticizes Skerritt when he practices despotic tendencies in Dominica,I wish this time to thank him for listening to reason and showing the balls and humility to stand down when it was the right thing to do.It is clear to see the lunacy of the decision to try to enact these despotic and undemocratic amendments to the country’s Constitution. He said it was in keeping with what small island states were doing, yet one can find no other small island state in which the ruling government has tried to overreach and grab permanent power for itself

I believe Roosevelt Skerrit got a very frightening and stirring warning from the US that forced him to call a snap address to the nation. I don’t believe none of the lies and feeble excuses he gave because we know this man called Skerrit has NO conscience and NEVER thinks of safety and well-being of others. Concerning his statement of not exposing anyone to “mob-like rioters, acting at the behest of their leader” I strongly agree with him, because if any member of the opposition or government entered the parliament with a gun it is clear that it was a premeditated decision and quite clearly I would consider such group as ” mob-like rioters that acting on the behavior of their leader, especially if they feel their leader is in trouble, just as Simon Peter drew his sword and cut off the servants ear jn. 18:10.

@ A bird told me so, I agree with you 100% that Skerrit got a serious warning from the US for him to call the media today to carry his address to the nation. As soon as he made that announcement I wondered what caused him to make that emergency like announcement because Skerrit is not known to be the person that cares about the safety of people especially where his personal benefits are concerned. He maybe poopoo on himself when he got that call. So thanks to the patriots for standing their ground and this is the beginning of more victories to come

Skerrit would have liked that the opposition Parliamentarians come and make their case in the Parliament, as it should be in a peaceful democracy. But that’s where DLP has it’s strength: 15 to 6
Linton knows he doesn’t stand a chance in parliament so he’s taking Everything to the streets and the Airwaves. With UWPites unopposed on the streets That’s where Linton feels strong.

Here is a wonderful song we use to sing before in Sunday School that I wish to dedicate to those true patriots of Dominica, though Skerrit sees you as riotous mobs : Stand up, stand up, for Jesus,
Ye soldiers of the cross; Lift high His royal banner It must not suffer loss: From victory unto victory,
His army shall He lead, Till every foe is vanquished, And Christ is Lord indeed.

To The Patriots I say: Stand up, stand up, stand up for Dominica, You patriots of the land; Lift high It’s pride and dignity, less it suffers loss: From battle unto battle, it’s pride shall we hold, Till our foe is vanquished, and our nation you saved.

    Thank you patriots!!!

But you right he did the right thing because he was aware of the danger within his ranks. When Skerrit heard that one of his own allegedly brandish a firearm and saying he will shoot somebody Skerrit decide he eh talking chances for more than one reason. He is fully aware that the one of his own is allegedly unstable and that given their passed history of aggression in the cabinet he should not take that particular member for granted. Added to that Skerrit may be well aware that certain other members seating to his side and at his back may be similar armed with the same intentions so to avoid a situation like how Bob Marley put in song \”ambush in the night all guns pointing at me\” Skerrit decided to suspend the house and blame it on the unarmed but dangerous so call mob knowing full well the real mobsters were within his mixed. Haha smart move…

  37. “He stated that he will not put anyone in harm’s way in relation to the matter.”

“I will not expose members of Parliament, staff of the Parliament, the media, visitors and other interest groups to threats of physical danger by mob-like rioters, acting at the behest of their leader,” he said.”(Roosevelt Skerrit).

Roosevelt, this is just another of your cheap political; cheap psychological ploy, which you believe people will fall for, believing that you are an honest saint, and peace maker. Remember you gave the order to the police to Shoot to kill.

“mob-like rioters, acting at the behest of their leader,” (Roosevelt Skerrit). Roosevelt that is bull, nothing more than a pile of decaying garbage, emanating from your warped mind. Who is the leader of the none existing “mob-like rioters in reference?

Could it be that you are referring to yourself Roosevelt? If there is a mob out there they are only standing up against you to prevent you from passing a law that the know is…

    • Finally:

If there is a mob out there, they are only standing up against you; fighting for their constitutional rights to prevent you from passing a law that they know is unconstitutional.

You have tabled a law which gives you the authority, to import people from any place in the diaspora where they live, giving them free tickets to travel home to illegally vote you into power. That law will give you an advantage over every other political party in the country.

That amendment to the law is crooked cynical, corrupted, and bogus, the people are very much aware of your ploy, and they are demonstrating to let you see, you are not the god you think you are over all the people of the country. Corruption, evil lies and victimization cannot last forever: Have you forgotten 1979.

Ask Charles Savarin your appointed president what he did in 1979; he set the precedent!

Wish the bullet rip through your lumbered spine, shattering your spinal cord, hence allowing you to live to be an old ninety to a hundred years old, remembering that Roosevelt Skerrit orders to the police to shoot to kill is the cause of you crawling on your behind defecating on yourself without you knowing you are sitting in your feces!

Mr.Linton handled himself in the parliament very professional and because of that we got to know much more about the CBI monies that’s a lot of cash.

Thirst knock on this board & theme. Thanks DNO.
They the Neo-DLP obviously analyzed the situation. Maybe even the former green president might have had a flashback not like anita baker’s flash back hit but of his 1979.
see Skerrit Medard saying Too hot too hot we gonna run for shelter. Not so long ago I had a hold on it .Not now. Like Slis & C.roft hit Slip sliding away.
medard is wondering can I remain in DA after the storm can I return tomy little hole where I emerged.
I wasn’t even aware it is the 25th of May 2017 lol poor me lol oh The President must be having nightmares in the day time. It’s deja vu all over agan . Funny how things fall in place.

If i know what i am doing is wrong, and my slaves, minions, acolytes, sycophants, are still encouraging me to do the wrong, despite what level headed people are telling me,i will now begin to tell those slaves,GO TO HELL 3times. I (% )am always ready to put BOOTS ON THE GROUND,for what i consider to be evil, like this ELECTORAL ACT AMENDMENT..I do so particularly on behalf of all the grabbing Labourites, that have been engulfed in greed…If true Dominicans on their own cannot do it,GOD SHALL deliver this land,..

This is a victory for the UWP and the people of Dominica–More power to the people. Congrats to Mr. Linton ,Lugay and the gang. Thanks to the police officers who Rayburn talked crap about.

You are all our heroes and we love you all. Long live Dominica. In time this house of cards will come falling down.

I don’t trust a word him say, we can only be certain after the house has been adjourned. For all we know this might be done so protestors don’t show up on Friday.

Somebody whispered in the head of Skerritt and his DLP Cabal. Skerritt in his arrogance and LOVE FOR POWER, must re-think the attempt to legalise BRIBERY and TREATING. STOP THEM

Skerritt is under serious pressure , regarding that PASSPORT-FOR-SALE scheme, especially sales of our DIPLOMATIC passports to crooks and criminal. Dominicans never knew until INTERPOL and FBI and othee anti-corruption agancies arrested NG LAP SENG, Madueke, Francisco Corallo, Monfared (Who was hiding in Dominica), Secret Deals, foreigners involved in Fraud, money-laundering all possess our diplomatic passports and given diplomatic positions and Dominicans are not informed, up to today .

Since February 2017, Royal Bank of Canada refused to hold Gov’t monies, millions. Skerritt says no reason given and he told the people nothing till now.

PRESSURE from patriotic Dominicans have forced Skerritt to hold back a little. We will not allow Skerritt to legalise stealing of our elections. More…

Dominica is once again the laughing stock of the Caribbean.
A country where the government intentionally lies to the nation to keep the people uninformed.
A country where the masses continue to live in abject poverty while the government continues to misuse state resources and educated men and women who should know better, sit quietly and applaud the rubbish of this crap government.

Kudos to the patriots who defied all odds and made their voices herd on behalf of the nation.

    God is not a police!!!

And, what about the wild, wild, west’s Cowpoke matter that was supposed to be brought before the Privilege’s Committee? Was this a cop-out strategy to eviscerate it?

Go ahead, blame it on riotous mob, instead of your lack of vision and dictatorial behavior. You try to snick in that bill and because of pressure you want to blame the UWP. Do you think the grace period you reluctantly gave, things will be back to normal ,no sir, not until you resign. As soon as the children’s exams are over, we will be back, Skeritt must go.
