One man is in police custody in connection with a shooting which occurred in Roseau this morning, DNO has learned.
A man was shot in Roseau sometime after 9:00 am on the corner of Kennedy Avenue and Kings Lane. Several gun shots were heard and one individual was reported fleeing from the scene. A government vehicle presumably in the role of an ambulance, arrived to transport the victim to the hospital.
While details of the incident have not been officially released, DNO has learned that the shooter’s face was covered.
We also understand that the man was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the Princess Margaret Hospital.
A large crowd quickly enveloped the area while police on the scene attempted to respond to this development. The police have since cordoned off the area to vehicle and foot traffic.
DNO will continue to follow this story.
Why didnt the police clear the entire street from courts to the muslim store? what if there was evidence the killer dropped?
In the main picture a police stand up with his hand behind his back and a ticket book in his hand and people under the Police tape…smh
Hello and good afternoon my people. First I want to offer my condolence to the family of the victim and may he rest in peace if he can. As someone who served twenty four years in law Enforcement in New York as a Police Officer,Detective and Detective Squad Supervisor I am troubled by the way the Police establish and maintain a Crime Scene. Whenever someone is shot one must assume that , that person can die from the gun shot therefore you must establish a proper crime scene. As depicted in the photos people are walking through the crime scene and EMS don’t have an ambulance to transport the victim to the hospital. Well it seems that our country is worst than I thought when it comes to providing medical services to our people. We must hold the criminals responsible for the criminal acts but our Police must be professional and they need the proper tools to be effective.
Hmmm, what Dominica having shooting broad daylight niw , well that’s it. I guess this assailant got his experience foreign and come spoiling Dominica, now others going to follow suit.
Gones, gones, bones.
Ross gone Barbados
Skerrit gone from parliament
Savarin gone in the white house
Loreen gone U.N.
The doctor gone Danny boy in parliament and the speaker gone moo moo
And ur point is?????
Dominica needs Jesus, Maria was a warning but you all did take heed.
God’s Judgement is coming! Jesus is the answer for the world today.
Jesus has given us the ability to change our society
Do you want him to hold our hands and spoon feed us too?
OK. Guys, you all are griping about the METHOD of transportation to the hospital. I understand, but, is is not better that as least he WAS TRANSPORTED instead of dying on the BARE STREET? That said, this is sad! Get y’all act together and stop getting rid of each other, Dominica has about 1000 people, yet you continue to emulate America. SMH
One of the biggest reasons (whether anybody wish to admit it) that Dominica continually fall behind in all aspects of development has to do with the attitude that a lot of Dominicans carry.
Too many people with nothing better to do, than to stare at a situation that doesn’t concern them. Too many people enjoy minding other people’s businesses other than their own. The love of indulging in subjects and situations that do not pertain to their individual lives; Dominicans waste too much time not being productive.
You are right Anon. The root of all this idleness comes from the failure of the system to get people off the streets. Where are the policies to support innovation and provide pathways for the youths to get engaged. where are the policies and support to get the youth engage in sports, music, and other cultural activities. Where are the policies that will support workforce development. There is sooo many things that Dominica needs to get done right now – post Maria, that there is no need for able bodied people to be idling. The system of the day has encouraged a state of dependency and what we see happening is a by product of the system.
It is indeed a sad day for Dominica .A young man is shot in the street of Roseau presumably by another
Dominican. These bullets could have hit an innocent persons.I respect everyones opinion but as Dominicans we need to have a conversation with ourselves ,we need to look in the mirror and stop the Hate. The issues became political right away. We don’t know why this man was shot.I hope it was not i
politically motivated. So why do we have to invoke politics? .What about the families both the alleged killer and the deceased.?Can we imagine the telephone call that the family member who left home earlier today is dead by gun shots Why do we invoke how the man was transported. It is true that an ambulance was more appropriate to transport the wounded .But I believe the people who transported the man to the hospital had good intention. Dominicans we use to be Nation of Love.We are our brothers keeper
Sadly, the victim has died. Sincerest sympathy to all his relatives. The government, the opposition parties, law enforcement and every citizen have to work together and make a more determined and consistent effort to rid the streets of these illicit guns and ammunitions. We must also demand much more from the people directly in charge of this country. The photos taken at the crime scene should send chills through our bodies. The crime scene was not cordoned off and secured. An ambulance should have been at the scene accompanied by medical personnel. Moving the body and transporting the victim in such a crude and primitive manner MAY have possibly hasten the man’s demise. What is most alarming to me is the people who have condoned and even supported the method used to transport the victim to the hospital. I just could not fathom the depths of ignorance of some among us. It’s no wonder the ruling regime is so at ease, doing so little, to change the southward trajectory of the country.
I mentioned the manner in which the victim was transported. Its like Dominica is still in the dark ages.Wow!
At times like this all internet connections should be cut off. Ma knob fact he country look bad ,,, worse than a war zone.
@Aa, you sound like the type who likes to sweep things under the rug and give the impression that things are not what they really are. You should be ashamed of yourself for this type of attitude. Instead, you should accept that things are bad and do something about it to change the situation. It starts with accepting that we have a problem not pretending there isn’t a problem. Got it?
In this day and age this is definitely not how l want to portray my country. I am calling on the ministry of health to address this incident. The way in which the victim was treated is almost worse than getting shot. I call on the family to express their disappointment in the officials handling. There is no excuse for such.
Ambulance don’t carry dead people. The man done dead already.
Where I b nah? Africa man?!
The fact they put the guy in truck is more of a scandal than the guy getting shot in board daylight!!!!
Are we regressing so rapidly as a nation? And people supporting that on DNO?! That will cuz investors to pass over our country with this 3rd world bushman style medical system.
Hello dominica is a 3rd world bushman country,,we should be proud of our bushman country,,
Yow, they’re transporting him in the back of a truck like a load of sand. Wow.
What difference does it make the man is dead it’s still government transport maybe the police should do more to get the guns off the streets
sam are you for real, no wonder the country the way it is.. Wow
Looking at the way in which the enforcers of the law are dealing or attending to the victim who got shot is extremely disheartening. While I understand that time is of the essence in situations such as this, I believe that they still need to be cognizant of the fact that a victim who is bleeding as profusely as seen in the pics, and in ‘critical’ condition, transporting them under these conditions could have done more harm than good. There are numerous points to take into consideration in this scenario
1. No stretcher was used
2. Paramedics are trained yes…but at the back of a truck? Wouldn’t it have been easier to try to stabilise the victim until the proper vehicle arrived?
3. All the enforcers of the law are around the body or the victim…but none is trying to keep back the crowd
People let’s do better!
Mr AG you need to revisit the Firearms Act and make the necessary amendments more in sink with the St Lucian Firearms Act. and while you are at it bring back the ” Cat-O-Nine and the Death Penalty; the Hangman has been sleeping for far too long; “please stop this madness going on”
Instead, the AG is more concerned about penalizing the opposition for peacefully protesting by walking out of parliament. Instead of doing his job he is playing politics.
Why the police did not secure the area by vacating the area. There are to many people at a crime scene.
That’s what THEY have been asking for and it has been demonstrated by THEM all along. The incident in Salisbury, burning down of Roseau, the stoning of the Police just to name a few. Since MR. took over the leadership of the official opposition party in Dominica has become a country of hate, jealousy and greed but a TRIBAIL STATE. Violience is HIS motto. And so Dominica is reaping the wishes of that TYRANT. People are scared of this ISLE of beauty because of the behavior and action of the OPPOSITION PARTY.(UWP).
You are completely of your rocker!
Shedduppp!! You sound salty.. Maybe you should do some introspection first before you go blasting people with whom the topic is totally unrelated to. You make no sense and your comment is unjustified. Check yourself first bredda.
You sounding like a special needs person who learn to type, lmao
Your young goat!!!
True say. Let us open our eyes and look at our souls.
Tonight, like many other nights, Levi will go home to his family, in his well-appointed abode, eat the best food and sleep like a baby, while yet another murder goes unsolved and another cold-blooded killer walks free to kill again. Whatever the deceased was guilty of, his killer did not give him a chance to explain himself or rectify the issue. He/she acted as the judge, jury and executioner. In so doing, that perpetrator must be “Hanged.” I’m tired of the Mercy Committee, the phony pastors and other clergy people on the island. “They who show no mercy shall receive no mercy.” Hang the damn …….
My heart bleeds for my Nature Island and land of my birth. Every day, this inept Labor regime continues to be an open wound that the citizens must bare without medication. What saddens me even more, is the high level of brain washing that this government has wrought on the masses. I’ve read a series of ignorant statements today about this incident. If we as a people believe that it’s acceptable to transport an injured human being in the back of a pick-up truck to the Princess Margaret Hospital for medical attention, then we have a long way to go. And you wonder why Ross up and left us dry. When Skerrit and the boys become ill, they fly away on helicopters for medical treatment, while the masses are left to suffer and die. This kind of backward business should never be allowed again. Even our beloved parrots left Skerrit and his foolishness.
Stupid, Barbados is no different. There are murders going on in Barbados everyday and in every island in the Caribbean nowadays. Take Trinidad for another example. Barbados’s economy is in shambles and the island is in badly need of serious cash. Mama Mia spitefully, cowardly, and willfully went behind closed doors and convinced Ross to come to her island. She needs money. She has taken up OFFICE and nothing has changed.
DS, in all honesty is Dominica I am concerned about, not Barbados and Trinidad. They can take care of their own problems.
This is how our once peaceful country has become, hope the coward is caught soon,Praying for my once loved country.
Can you imagine, in Dominica, we have shootings in broad daylight.
– World’s Moistest Jheri Curl
N we guess why DA is lawless
U don’t even know which side is taped off SMFH no one cares
Why you people really comment. So USA doesn’t have laws?, people are murdered even by police daily. France doesn’t have laws? bombs are set frequently to destroy lives. the UK, Latin America, Trinidad, Jamaica? Tell me??????
Please shut up if you can’t make a sensible comment.
The joke is guns all over Dominica streets in the hands and citizens, while police patrolling with batons. Didn’t we just have a similar shooting in Newtown?
We are just too backward! The back of a truck w/o a nurse? No IV, no stretcher? Yet we waste $ on BS! But next election vote to get handouts and not address real issues. Public safety, healthcare, education, jobs! Dam…
You are the backward one if the world was perfect you would not be black looking for a better life in a white man country!!!
My question is ..WHY IS THERE SO MANY PEOPLE UNDER THE POLICE TAPE?????
Don’t we have body bags?
We have absolutely nothing, but corruption by this cabal.
I guess we have, but definitely no shortage of scum bags.
Whether or not the person dies, i think our fire officers should also be properly trained in the field of medicine or there should be an on call doctor or nurse ready for such incidents and accidents. a wounded person should not wait till they reach the hospital to start checking their vitals. NOO… Vitals should be checked already. so when you are coming into the hospital with his oxygen mask on his face and ready to be taken to the next step. I think we can do much better than that. it is sad, RIP to this young man. condolences to his family.
Why does everything has to be made into a political issue in Dominica? Why is the government to be blamed for EVERYTHING in Dominica? We need to learn to think objectively, study, research, let the ideas swirl around our heads before making an informed comment, statement, suggestion, decision etc. We will often be regarded as fools to those who are educated when such unreasonable and baseless uninformed statements are made while we think we sound intelligent. As the late Honorable Pierre Charles said ” We wear our ignorance as a badge of honour”.
Yes outside persons are reading those ridiculous comments. Those very same ones who went all the way to assist us. Everything is political and blaming someone. That is my opinion Mr Nobody. The new trend now is when something happens everyone wants to take pictures and unconcerned about the persons’ well being.
So, who should provide an ambulance to transport victims to the hospital during such life threatening injuries? Would this be acceptable, if it were your family member? Hell no.
Mr. Nobody, get your facts right, not WE wear our ignorance as a badge of honour but YOU and your fellow labour supporters. The government is blamed for all those things they messed up and that’s it. Why should I say well done government when I see these pictures. Why?? Explain that to me YOU ALL SO CLEVER ONE!
@ Neville we wear our ignorance as a badge of honour, nice one neville so you are now admitting you lots workers supporters idiotic ones for years has been creating havoc and mayhem in Dominica, neville you and your criminal people are the ones to get yourselves sorted out and grow up.
The truck is part of the fire and ambulance services, and its fire and ambulance personals that respond to the incidents hence why be so concern and critical about the mood of transportation.
The truck is most likely to carry load, a cartoon of gloves from the port etc etc.
Not to transport patience of accidents, where the bed? the neck brace? the IV …tsk
No stretcher. Laying down on the hard and probably hot truck surface. Everybody know Roseau hot. The man going and be under the hot sun until he reach hospital.
In that case I suppose you don mind being buried in a wheel barrow. and the word is mode, not mood even I know that. It is you that is in a mood.
Really? In this modern day? Where is the ambulances with some sort of basic medical instruments? Nature isle if it was ur brother, sister, mother, father or child, I wonder if u would say the same.
So after seeing how someone who is shot gets transported to the hospital on the back of a truck when the hospital is only 5 mins away Dominicans can not blame Ross University for moving to Barbados. I would not send my child to school in a country that has such backwards services as Dominica does. Citizens of Dominica need to demand better in all aspects, this can’t continue to happen. I know Dominicans are used to “making due” but that concept doesn’t work in the rest of the developed world, they plan, prepare, test and then execute a plan.
Eloquently said! Even in some war zones ambulance service is provide for the wounded. Nowhere else in the modern world gunshot victims or seriously injured persons are transported on the back of a truck to the emergency room. This is unheard of. The people MUST demand better from their government. Those of you who are condoning this mode of transportation of a medical emergency are unbelievably daft. Would you want that treatment for your mother or a close relative? It is unarguably UNACCEPTABLE!!!!
It’s “making do” not “making due,” you fool!!!!!!!!
I agree…Ross left because of the whole nine yards of safety issues that is so aggressive today.
Whatever is done, you negaters will talk. I have no issue whether is a truck or what because as long as the victim is taken to the hospital .. this is what matters. Even if it was the ambulance that came, you %, and Minister for Pampers would still find something negative to say. Always negative you folks are. Whilst the ideal would be for the ambulance but this guy was bleeding profusely. ??? for you % and Pampers Minister, I am sure if you are somewhere and something happens to your family and they were bleeding profusely, you would probably apply a torniquet if you know and put your relative on the first available vehicle you see passing if you do not have one and drive to the hospital. You would even probably forget that there is an ambulance service. High time you folks and I mean it you folks desists from those negatives on all forum. Put on your bois glasses and look at things objectively …Do away with the hatred and get love going. Tourneh!
Partner, Ross did look at things objectively…….and decided to leave.
The Government could not guarantee the safety of the students by January, 2019.So Ross left. Maria was just the last strew. Since 2014 when the UWP took over all kinds of arggessive misbehavior is on the increase . There have been tonadoes :hate, accusations, name calling, accusations, lootings, demonstrations, personal attacks, sexual asults of minors, anti -government activities from the civil servants unions, nurses, shootings. The government was even given14 days to pack up and go. People were on radio advocating violence. Its like an ill wind of evil spirits spreading harm and hurt. The opposition never condemned the lootings of D Day in February or the looting re Maria. Hate is l wild fire. The UWP is turning people away from God in THE LAND OF THE LORD. ALL THESE NEGATIVE ANGRY ACTONS NOT COMMING FROM HOLY INSPIRATIONS. Government cannot protect strangers from black on black tribal crimes advocates who hurt their own people. How can you love strangers if you hate your own.
There are a lot of situations that attracts unreasonable negative attention but transporting a wounded or dead person on a open truck in that manner is uncivilized behavior. Not even a stretcher was used. Where is the protocol for handling the wounded before medical personnel examination. You cannot assume a person is dead.
I expected nothing less from the Labor Cabal. In 2018, we’re transporting an injured human being to the hospital in the back of a pick-up truck. If the bullets did not kill the injured, then the ride to the hospital certainly will. Welcome to next level. Whether it’s early morning or late at night crime continues to be rampant in Skerrit’s Dominica. It is time to reinstate “Death by Hanging.”
@?????????????
You are obviously a despicable and heartless scatterbrain, destroying Dominica even more that Skerrit the lazy idiot has. The world is looking at these photos. Are you not ashamed that in 2018 an injured man cannot be transported to hospital in your country on an ambulance?Have your feelings fled to brutish beast?
Where The Wicked Rule The People MOURN
This DLP is a Wicked and Evil Party
This is a country which boasts of so much money, why can’t we have ambulances that can be ready to respond to these emergencies? The ambulance is equipped with both the personnel and other amenities which can increase a victims chance of survival, the other vehicles do not. What a Shame!!
Where is our Minister of health? Is he still quarrelling with the GOOD nurses?
Where The Wicked Rule The People MOURN
This DLP is a Wicked and Evil Party
Why, why, and why % do you always indulge yourself into everything? What kind of animal are you! A life was taken through violence and you are politicizing the issue. Only a desperate and despectable animal would use everything as a political platform. SHAME ON YOU %.
It really doesn’t matter how he gets to the hospital! MY love One laying on the ground bleeding getting him to the hospital % would be of utmost urgency. In order to save his life a drastic measure was taken. You don’t really care for the victim or his family, % you just want to push your bias agenda. SILLY YOU. Have a conscience and stop spreading propaganda, we are decent people with values and morals. Use your diplomatic passport to join the Trump administration, %
You are precisely correct %. The police officers are not trained nor equipped to professionally undertake such actions. Their mishandling of the delicate situation could result in the death of the individual. Only qualified medical personnel are to deal with such critical cases. Only in Dominica, where the country has yet to deviate into modernity, this happens. This is cause for grave concerns about the shabby healthcare services provided to ordinary citizens and a damning indictment of the outrageously anachronistic government. National Security and Healthcare should be the top two priorities of a country. This incident is painfully shameful and a colossal national scandal.
Totally agree with you, police dressed in military camouflage with no ttraining whatsoever in these situations, loading an injured individual on a truck in this day and age is a disgrace, to all those saying that it does not matter, indeed it do matter, as a matter of fact, in a real country, police job is to investigate the situation, the fire ambulance /parametric medical persons should be the ones handling moving the young man this is not the duties of police officers, only in Dominica the laughing stock of the world, you people settle for little in this day and age, so sad, I do hope that the young man survive, this island is becoming a lawless place, just like the USA and other countries, so sad, lost for words
Those images will help Carnival to make up their mind, right?
let us pray that this young man survives this and that the criminal is caught .one has to wonder what has happened in Dominica to cause these type of crimes . IT is nine am in the middle of Roseau .where do we go from here .?yesterday I read on DNO that a someone was find $10,000 ten thousand dollars for possession of a gun and ammunition which tells me that the courts must impose stiffer sentences or the laws need to be changed to suite the times.Where do these guns come from and how do they enter the country ? cocaine is being imported and sold without any thought of the young people whose lives are being destroyed, too many young people walking around like zumbies and this does not seem to bother the authorities .farmers are being robbed houses broken into ,where does it end ?
Shame. No respect for people. Right there inside Roseau. 2 minutes walk from the Fire and Ambulance services. And these people respond to a shooting with a TRUCK.. A TTRUUCCKK. That’s a SHAME!!!!
what happened to all the ambulances they got from the Chinese?
I was about to say the same. What on earth has happened to our once beautiful country.
The Trucks from the Chinese aren’t in service yet. Until sometime next 2 or so years.
Ebeh, Didnt the Chinese give us like (correct me if im wrong) 9 big ambulance trucks?
All of them had a problem ? or were out? That’s how we want to invite tourist here?
Where were those vehicles?! Where were the ambulance, In other countries when an ambulance picks you up first aid starts right there, what first aid can be administered at the back of a truck? Alas Alas Alas.
If a tourist gets hurt thats how we taking care of them?
They are for military use only and are marked accordingly but surely they could have used one of our standard ambulances. This really gives a bad impression of how we respond to emergencies and questions our level of care.
Military use, ok, but we going to have to re purpose them if we picking up our civilians in a truck, where the bandages, the place for drips?
Military :
relating to or characteristic of soldiers or armed forces.
“the build-up of military activity”
You tryna tell me our ambulance is for when we in “war”?????when was our last war? You tryna tell me our WAR ambulance that we never using better than what we actually using to SAVE LIFES.
Wen we do get a war I believe their will be no more citizen left to fight.. WE WILL ALL BE DEAD. thanks Ambulance.
Welcome to the next level. Our parrots gone, Ross gone, Hotel gone, DCP gone. Everything gone underneath Skerrit’s leadership. Broad daylight they just shooting and killing people. Time to start hanging those killers.
Ismael you’re an idiot….. I guess is skerrit fault these idiots killing each other right? Black on black crime is always the Gov’t fault…
Another genius shoots someone. He will soon be caught and will spend a considerable amount of time behind bars. Idiot!!
