BREAKING NEWS: Ross announces move to Barbados

Barbados PM Mia Mottley & Adtalem CEO Lisa Wardell at press conference announcing Ross’s move to Barbados

In a joint press conference held with Lisa W. Wardell president and CEO of Adtalem Global Education ,the parent company of Ross University, Mia Motley Prime Minister of Barbados has announced that Ross University will be moving to their shores.

Wardell said that the Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) considers Dominican people as part of the Ross family and that “Prime Minister SKerrit is both a partner and a friend to Adtalem Global Education.” She further stated, “As a CEO I sometimes have to make very difficult decisions it is with a heavy heart I make the decision to leave Dominica.” She went on, “…But my job is to position RUSM for the future and for us the future is Barbados”

Motley announced the possibility of providing scholarships to Dominican students in Barbados. This is in keeping with Prime Minister Skerrit’s disclosure in his announcement today of the Ross departure that Dominica had sought to ensure that Ross will continue to provide scholarships to Dominican students.

THIS FROM DOMINICA-LOVING FRIEND IN THE U.S. – governments have little power compared to international WEALTH. Money is running the world. Wasn’t this medical school “for profit”? There’s your answer. . . Dominica and Dominicans don’t have enough MONEY so off to Barbados it went. Its first priority is NOT training doctors to help people. . . .it was to make a profit off the business of training doctors. It is a sickness in the world. You can see it in the U.S’s sick and greedy and merciless government. They’re looting our treasury and cutting our medical benefits and food for the poor, etc., to line their own pockets. Dominica is still finding its way as a socialist democracy and God loves you, so do NOT despair or blame. This will work out.

Dominica’s leaders tampered with a super power and lost big time !
Dominica’s leaders now have a tighter grip on the brainwashed citizens!

Ross University leaving could be a blessing in disguise. Stop being negative and ask what you can do for your country and not always what your country can do for you. What has happened there today is no fault of PM Skerrit. Dominica is a very mountainous, terrainous island very prone to natural disasters. That makes people very uncomfortable and, that is the way Ross felt. We have our own natural problems which makes us all the time very unsettled.

How nice  So the “Evil Dr Supremo” got screwed by his girl, and good friend mia  without any grease  well maybe the socialist paradise cubans can open up a campus of ELAM, at picard , The lovely university. The universidade De Macau, Caracas university or Tsinghag university can open up a school of medicine, there, Or just move the coffee plant there, maybe it might finally work and make coffee. But like i said months ago just turn the area into a CBI passport selling center  can we just CBI all our problems away :) Ah we going to suck salt  And people are still saying the love the sweet PM :-P :-P

Some, including me, blame the government, others blame Ross, and the government blames TS Erica and hurricane Maria. Realizing that the free movement of capital is what happens in a capitalist setting, then Ross is within its right to go elsewhere if the conditions in Dominica are not condusive to their operations goals and mission. Skerritt fell asleep at the wheel as he became drunk with power. The country is hurting and will continue to hurt for a long time even if Skerritt makes light of the situation pointing to three hotels under construction as being sufficient to reverse this backward fall. Truth be told, it’s time for Skerritt to go before more devastation defalls our once beautiful and peaceful country, because anarchy and an increase in suisides are at our doorsteps. Heaven help us all.

You are giving on Skeritt like he is such a bad guy, well he is not. We must cherish democracy as he was duely elected by a majority. Let’s hope he don’t mess the anti terror act. Linton with ‘sophisticated’ advisers won’t be a bad PM either. This gov’t given 18 years, and where we are today, the electorate would be wise to try another group of eyes, ears and minds to try elevate us into prosperity. State what you’d do better, take it to the people constantly: Crazy but innovative things such as almost removing customs duties of 30-160% proven to be stifling free movement of goods and skyrocketing cost of living in Dominica, ways to recoup that, term limits, legalized gambling, recreational marijuana, more passport sales, alliances with potential donor countries… Whatever outside the box, take it to the people, you are men and women now not boys and girls reacting with mepuis and law suits for lieing on you, like kids. Get serious, 15 years should be enuff for you to do that…

Hello there. Mr. Skerrit said he was only OFFICALY notified a few days before he notified the country. The question I am asking myself and others is, when did he receive UNOFFICIAL notification. A university of that magnitude does not decide to leave in 3 days, and certainly would not find a home just as fast. For those who are free thinkers, those decisions would have to have been made way before, and way before Mia became prime minister of Barbados. Let those who have ears hear, let those who have eyes see!

Your analytical skills are at work, Badbaje. Skerrit is a pathological and a compulsive LIAR. Not even an iota of doubt I have about this now. The saddest thing is that his Cabinet colleagues know this to be true and their silence make them complicit. The PM knew about Ross University departure from Dominica long in advance. He was forced to cough up this information because later that very same day Mia Motley and the representative of Ross were about to hold their press conference regarding the move to Barbados. Mr. Skerrit didn’t even give those who would be negatively affected an advance warning or enough time to cushion this dreadful news. This is an opaque regime managed by insensitive, grotesque people.

What analytical skills at work are you talking about The act of taking possession or asserting a claim is called an assumption not analytical skills. You are quick to label The PM a pathological and a compulsive LIAR, without knowing and understanding something called protocol, and ethics within Government and their business partners. You have just demonstrated once again how you throw your intelligence to the wind simply to satisfy your partisan political beliefs.

My fellow Dominicans, in the early 1980’s two ministers of government in the Eugenia Charles’s administration threatened to close Ross university over an African student who claimed racism when in fact he had failed his grades due to lack of effort in his studies. Mike Douglas and Jenner Armour, although being on the opposite on many political issues formed an alliance to fight against the two ministers because they recognized how important Ross was to the north and they prevailed. Where has Ian Douglas been ? it would be a damn shame if the Portsmouth constituency reelect Ian and moreover the ministers of the north including the prime minister who have abdicated their responsibilities. I have said it before and I will say it again: We do not have any minister in the current government who can articulate any position. They are weak and lack innovation, foresightedness, acumen and the ability to communicate. They do not demonstrate any erudition. We need to get this government out !

  9. I truly wonder
    August 5, 2018

This is just the beginning of things falling apart. This government has failed its people yet some of us are yet to see that. These men and women who are leading this country have never been up front with us; that have lied and manipulated their way through and around things. If only the Prime Minister spoke the truth, if only he do as he says, instead of just talking and making all these damn empty promises, if only he actually cared for we the people of Dominica. Sigh. I truly wonder what he is going to tell all these who were employed at Ross…how about the people who’ve built all these apartments and have bank to repay. This is a sad situation and I HOPE THAT DOMINICANS EYES WILL BE OPEN. Dominica is quickly sinking and if we do not get up and do something about it, then there won’t be a Dominica for our Children, grand-children, etc. Remember is not everyone who can run…. the grass is never greener on the other side

Ross left DA after 40 years like a husband who left his wife when he found out she was sick , but he got sick and that same wife was to the who took care of him. In life strange things happen maybe DA might be the one to rescue Ross. Never abandon your friend when they need you in difficult times cause karma will come back at you.

a husband leaves his wife after 40 years in time of her illness because:
      1. She took him for grades over the years
      2. she cheated
      3. she lied
      4. she abused him
      5. she neglected him
      6. she disgraced his needs
      7. she gave him nothing in return
      8. she wanted his money
      9. she stole from him
      10. she was selfish
      11. she ruined his life
      12. she wanted his time

should I go on? after 40 yrs he doesn’t leave because he is a bad person, he leaves because it’s time for her carma. he already made as much of a sacrifice as he possible could. in her good time she neglected him, so now he is looking out for him…

Why on earth would you tear down multi-million dollar buildings? The campus centre on Ross’ land was completed in 2015. Perhaps it can be turned into a dormitory for another school that might come, or into offices for a new enterprise. The older, shabbier buildings might need to come down, but for land sakes don’t tear down one of the only hurricane-stable buildings on the island.

But what politics have to do with Ross leaving the Island? Ross made their choice 11 months ago to vacate the Island. They wanted to go let them go. God will send us something better. Before Ross we were eating and drinking. We need to find ways to survive instead of dwelling on Ross leaving. We need some factories on Island. We got alot of resources to bottle juice etc. Plant back our coconuts and bananas, our citrus. Dominica isnt the only place which get hit by hurricane. The United States get Natural disasters too such as tornados and flooding etc they get pretty damaged too. Americans just think they are above all other nations in the world. Though we may want them to stay, GOD may have a better plan and he won’t turn his back on us. All we need is faith…lets be united and work together to see our way forward. There are alot of intelligent Dominicans out there playing dead. Wake up! Stop play politics with everything. The P.M alone can’t make a better Dominica. He needs…

Ross U parents they have children and they are most likely United compared to Dominicans.
Ross university has a sibling named ACAMS Association of Certified Anti Money Laundering Specialists.

As parents.would you not want what is good for your child. As a child would you not warn your siblings and parent of impending danger? Again I commend the strategist for seeing this opportunity and this could jolly well be a reason why Dominica cannot turn the big ship around because it is way too far and in too deep. They snatched the opportunity to take them to Babardos.

    August 4, 2018

I hope that there are no business people out there wringing their hands in shock. You know that it is extremely risky for either a business or country to have one main crop (remember bananas?) or customer or supplier or one anything generating its revenues. Business 101.
With an international airport in that area (once rigorous feasibility studies support it), think of the exponential thrust the country would get in all of its sectors.

RUSM, like any other good business, has done its SWOT analysis and made its decision based on all factors. No surprise.

    Let’s move on.

And, what would happen to the land purchased in Londonderry for the international airport you ask?
Isn’t that some of our best agricultural lands though? If so, let’s turn our Dominica into the best organic farm lands in the Caribbean. We could even start off with 100% pure organic ganja cultivations.

  16. Nothing lasts forever
    August 4, 2018

I hope there are no business people out there supporting this forever threat of depending so much on the RUSM business for economic sustenance. Remember bananas? The world is changing. Rapidly. At a faster rate than before.

Even if it was not, note Business 101: Never depend on one customer or one crop or one anything for your business/country’s long term survival.

    Let’s move on guys…

How can Dominica go forward when spin doctors of Skerrit’, like @ nothing lasts forever, is using the failure of Skerrit’and the DLP to talk about the possibility of converting Ross University into the site for international airport? Could this be the strategy of Skerrit and the DLP for the next election since Skerrit knew long ago that Ross was not coming back but somehow only last year he began to talk about international airport without saying a thing about the site? But before they even start to decieve the people here is Wikipedia on why Melville Hall was chosen in 1944 The Melville Hall area was chosen as the site for Dominica’s main airport in 1944, “for it was the only place on the island with extensive flat land.[4] It was only after the completion of the Transinsular Road from Belles to Marigot, in 1958, that work on the airport began.[4][5] The facility opened on 22 November 1961, and was first served by Dakotas from BWIA.[5”. Melville Hall was chosen b4 Ross came.

Just finishing talking to a friend from Africa, brilliant doctor, who is very aware about Ross and the Dominica situation. He shook his head, smiled and asked me a simple question: In which other country in the world, could a leader of the country send his children to be born in the United States, and the people accept it, and even support it, and he is still in power?
He then said, no matter all the problems you see in different nations in Africa, under no circumstances could anyone of them do something like that, and still remained in office. Clearly, he said, this leader does not have any respect for the people of Dominica, but the people themselves……..!

Out of respect for my country and fellow Dominicans, I will not give you his opinion of the political, educational, and philosophical perspective that permeates, more than not, the people of Dominica, and it is on either side.

Sounds like a done deal but be mindful that Barbados is also in the path of hurricanes in line with Grenada. They were both hit by hurricane Ivan in 2004. I’d say the same is true for at least 14,000 other Ross Grads and their families. The great people of Dominica have been a vital part in providing us the chance to become physicians. I would suggest that I am a better physician because of the non academic lessons and experiences I had in Dominica. My thoughts and prayers go out to you during this “aftershock” of hurricane Maria. To the apartment owners who are facing huge loans. To the transport drivers who invested in new vehicles. The businesses who built back promising the banks that the students would return. To the restaurant proprietors, watersports operators, security guards, local grocery owners and staff, laundry operators, maintenance crew, and all those who will feel a void after this decision. I’m sorry. Stay strong! Come together, dont let this divide you more. Thank you!

One of the reasons may be the fact that it is too hard to get to Dominica, no jet direct flight service. It is almost impossible to get to Dominica in one day, even people born on Dominica do not want to go back to visit because of the hassle and conniptions getting there. If I was a Ross student I would not want to go through conniptions getting back after vacation in the US. A major effort needs to be made to lengthen the runway at Melville hall so that jets can land safely. They probably took into consideration what happened after Maria too.

Very sad day for our nation but what is done is done. The people and government of our country needs to really ask ourselves what do we want to become when we grow up? Then begin to take MASSIVE amounts of action towards that goal.

If Dominicans vote out this corrupt and deceptive government I have no doubt that whoever forms the next government will find a way to get Ross to come back home, where they belong. I know for a fact that Ross wants to come back to Dominica, where they belong but unfortunately we have a government that is not America friendly and that hurts us. Our problem is not just lack of international airport as Skerrit would have us believe but, I know for a fact that Ross biggest problem is that of not being able to find a way to protect American lives in case of Emergency. In other words, in case of an Emergency the US can’t just come to Dominica just as they would not be able to go to Venezuela because of the document Skerrit signed with ALBA. So it is not just Ross but it is the US pushing their safety concerns on Ross which includes their insurance and Ross therefore was forced to make a decision. The solution is get rid of Skerrit and that will change everything

Ross is a unique sort of investment that should never, never have been allowed by the incompetence of a lazy, cannot-do government to depart. Skerrit & his government should have resigned yesterday after this 18 year horrendous blunder in the making.

Roosevelt Skerrit & his band of misfits & sycophants were unable to foster and create an encouraging forward-thinking operating environment with the necessary infrastructure to incentivize Ross to remain in Dominica. That is why Ross left.

Austrie said “Ross is a business” right. And businesses (especially the American ones owned by major shareholders) will pull up shop in poor business locations and seek out a better environment that can generate better returns on investments.

Listen, truth is the truth – Dominica is failing badly under this Skerrit led government.

So, what listing and apartment with all you name is going to prove, what purpose will that serve?

When people think of talking a vacation the think of checking into  a luxurious hotel, where they pay for room service. When I feel like taking a vacation anywhere in the United States, or Canada when I chose a hotel, it must be the best I can afford.

I am Dominican born in Wesley, and never thought in recent years to return on a vacation okay!

Want to know why, it is too difficult to get connecting  flights from Los Angeles California to Dominica, it is a waste of time. I am not prepared to sit on a Jet aircraft for no less than five hours to New York, or Miami, and sometimes have to overnight to get a flight to Antigua, Barbados, St. Lucia, or Puerto Rico to wait on LIAT to Island hopping to get to Dominica.

To the shacks, the security guards, the staff and faculty, the IT guys, the construction workers, the taxi and shuttle services, the restaurants, the laundry people, the cleaning staff, the apartment landlords all the people who helped make our stay on the island away from home as comfortable as possible, you will always have a special place in my heart. Our families thank you for taking care of us like family. I will always remember my first time there and not understanding the accents, only to end up translating for the 1st semesters by the time I was at the end. My Dominican accent got good haha. My time on the island made me a more easy going, resilient, and humble person. I am proud to be able to say that I lived in Dominica, the birthplace of Ross University School of Medicine. We will miss you.

18 years pluss as the government no international airport. Look at all this beautiful buildings in Picard and look at the condition of the roads that the students have to walk to school on. Dominica has some of the best dive sights in the world yet we don’t have an international Airport to bring the ones who want to come to dive our waters. I firmly believe change is a must right now. We need a new set off minds now. New government.

At the center of the Domican flag sits a parrot in its splendor. This majestic and incessantly talkative bird by nature was deafeningly silent when it mattered most. Sadly and consequently our parrot failed to speak up loud enough or to put its mouth where the money was when it mattered. Some may choose to blame the perils of Mother Nature for the departure of Ross; however, I strongly believe this was a clear case of parrot’s silence being deadly.

Sadly, maybe next time hurricane ‘Maria’ will hit Barbados. Not my wish, but maybe then politicians like Mia Motley would not take advantage of a fellow Caribbean country and offer incentives to a business to move to it’s shores while a sister island is hurting.

Frankly, speaking – competition is all good. But when your brother is down – hit by a category 5 hurricane – you don’t take advantage and steal their business. In 1979 – when hurricane David hit – and RUSM was still a none entity – did Barbados come calling?

If I was a politician in Dominica, I would do the following regarding Ross moving:

I would beg Ross to help Dominica make use of some of the facilities they are leaving behind to create or develop something that will bring income to Dominica. Something that the Caribbean needs. For example, what if Ross helps us to use some of the facilities to build a forensic lab that can be used for DNA and finger print processing? This would include training for employees / professionals to run the facility. Wouldn’t that be a benefit to the region? That could be a small thank you for 40 years worth of business in DA.. August 3, 2018

Mark my words fellow Dominicans. Where Ross University was located is a huge piece of REAL ESTATE. The few people who have amassed MILLIONS upon MILLIONS SELLING our PASSPORTS, have plenty, plenty money.

Because the International organisations fighting CORRUPTION, money-laundering and other such crimes, are clamping down, getting closer, the culprits have to use those $$$$$$$$$. They buy acres upon acres of land, set up all kinds of bogus, short-lived companies, to hide or wash their “dirty’ money.

The Picard area is just the place to set up after RUSM departs.

Skerritt has his agenda that the people of Dominica will not know about.

Where is Hartley Henry in all this? Skerritt’s political advisor? Did you know Hartley is close with Mia Motley and her Party? once I heard Motley talking about scholarships for Dominican students, I shirked and ,asked myself some questions. Ross University moving from Dominica to Barbados is an earthshattering loss to Dominicans economically. Shaka Zulu alluded to this and I think he’s perfectly spot on. Safety is paramount with US citizens. The US is always very swift to send out advisories at the slightest hint of danger to their overseas citizens. When the lives of US citizens are in imminent danger abroad, they usually send their large aircrafts to evacuate their people. Because of the non existence of an international airport and other infrastructural deficiencies, the lives of these US students will always be at great risk in Dominica during a pending hurricane. The experience of Maria, trapped on the island, was too much of a risk to relive for the Americans. Myopic vision, poor strategic planning, lack of infrastructural developments are some reasons for Ross University abandonment of Dominica.

So let me get this straight…after a major, record breaking hurricane strikes us….one of the most powerful of it’s kind…..ROSS decides to take it’s business to a country that is statistically less likely to be affected by Hurricanes…and this is Skerrit’s fault how ???
Seriously ? How is the logical conclusion of Ross university to move to a safer island after we got a major lash from a natural disaster Skerrit’s fault. How could he prevent it ? Do you think an international airport would have withstood a hurricane like Maria….just look at what happened to Puerto Rico and that is a USA territory !!

Come on guys. Give the man a break. Skerrit is now in the least coveted position of any Politian…being the country’s leader when disaster strikes.

The next marriage breakup some Dominicans will blame the PM for their divorce. Come on Dominicans!! this is the time that we come together rather than allow anymore division. Didn’t we learn anything from Hurricane Maria? This is like another 5 hitting us. We all will suffer from the losing of RUSM but we must recover.

We now have to put our thinking caps on. No time for the blame game. This is a serious setback that has happened. The PM and Government could no less prevent the Category 5 Hurricane from hitting Dominica head on than they could prevent the RUSM from leaving after 40 years in Dominica. We will miss them. It will be hard because we know the benefits they are to Dominica and the Domino effect their leaving will have.

We have been leaving home all the time for our own personal growth so why wouldn’t a business do likewise? The real issue is what lessons have we learned and how do we pickup, dust off ourselves and rebuild our country’s economy.

40 yrs past, with the Barbados economy on good tourism footings , there was no room for an up and coming ROSS, today, with ROSS being part of a global concern and Barbados going through a brutal economical down turn, the Gov’t have given Ross deals, that the Dominica Gov’t and people can only dream of. Everything is in place for Barbados to capitalize on ROSS’ incursion on the Island. The in fighting among caribbean gov’ts for foreign investments, opens the door of disunity and distrust , that continue to exist among the Africans in the Caribbean. Caricom, should never allow these transactions to happen, where the economy of a Sister Island is directly affected. While Dominicans believe in prayer with no action, the rudiments of how to live together as a people have left us long ago. Ross was constantly telling the students they were planning on staying in Dominica. Also students who experienced St. kitts and Dominica, vastly preferred Dominica due to lower Crime rates and the nice Dominican people. Ross intended to stay in Dominica and invested in staying as well.

I do not believe any Dominican People should feel that Ross “stabbed the Dominica” in the back. I do not know the exact reason why Ross chose to move to Barbados but I do know that it wasn’t Ross’s fault.

The students were excited for St. mitts until they realized how good we had it in Dominica. (again: nice people, reasonable prices, good study environment).

I hope that Dominica has something that can replace Ross soon because we all feel for the Dominicans.

  70. August 3, 2018

It is sad that Ross had to leave Dominica after being part of the Dominican landscape for the past forty years. However like any business which has been disrupted several times for whatever reasons the principles must make sound business decisions for the business financial wellbeing.
These decissions many times are sometimes conflicting with other business, national or personal responsibilities.
For those blaming government it is so unfair. We all know that Barbados weather pattern are so different from Dominicas weather norms giving a business like Ross continuesd and uninterupted teaching opportunities .But then again we involve politics in every aspect of Dominican life.
If there is a tsunami tomorrow it will be caused by government. It is sad sad sad.
Comforting though, to know that out of every adverse situation comes a great opportunity and we should embrace that opportunity when it comes around.

No true Dominican can wake up everyday crafting letters to donors and international organisations all aimed at stopping the flow of funds to assist ordinary Dominicans due to paranoia about Skerrit’s position as PM.

Okay, but sympathy without help is no help at all. Roosevelt Skerrit is the cause of that!

If that was true, Ross would not have left, and went to St. Kitts; I agree that they had to do something to ensure that the students education continued until they repaired the damaged to the buildings by the hurricane; but whereas, they made no attempt to return, and went from St. Kitts in the North of the Eastern Caribbean, to Barbados in the South East, should be food for thought?

They have more reasons than the aftermath of Maria which caused them to vacate Dominica. Roosevelt Politics is the reason! While he indulges in lies, and cheap political rhetoric  he neglects the country, ensuring his personal riches.

The man is a stupid dictator, and the country now suffers because of his stupidity. Business do not remain in a backward country because they love the Prime Minister!

Some of Roosevelt ‘advisors’ are from Barbados, Bajan contractors doing bridge, housing etc here. Ah boy Roosevelt, somebody just gave you a big slap in your face boy.

By the way, I hope all you heard that it was around May 31st when contact was made with Barbados re: Ross relocating to their island. In just under 3 months, the government of Barbados was able to get Ross to relocate to their island.

This joker Skerrit claims that it is because of Hurricane Maria and Erica that Adtalem relocated Ross to Barbados from Dominica. Now hear dis: Adtalem also operates American University of the Caribbean Medical School in St Maarten. St Maarten was severely ravaged by Hurricane Irma.

Can somebody therefore please explain why Adtalem hasn’t permanently relocated AUC from St Maarten in like manner as they have done for Ross? After all, ‘Doctor’ Skerrit is using the ‘hurricane-hit-us-so-they-move’ excuse.

The answer to your question is not difficult!

Dominica is not a developed island; clowns such as Roosevelt are proud to advertize Dominica as the ” Nature island of the world.” They believe by so doing it will attract business and tourist t the island.

Nature island simply means Dominica is a primitive place. I am from Wesley, I tried to get a flight to Dominica to attend the  funeral of my mother, every connecting flight I got from Los Angeles to Dominica would get me to Dominica after my mother decade in her grave.

When my father died, I had a better chance how ever it took my daughter and I more than eighteen hours getting to Dominica, after overflying Dominica from Puerto Rico to St. Lucia, and by the time we arrived in Dominica from St. Lucia, all of my daughters luggage was stolen between St. Lucia, and Dominica.

Which foreign national want to deal with such crap, just to say they are going to Dominica, because of Roosevelt

Let’s face it, Barbados has a lot of advantages we do not possess. Weather pattern-wise, they are not as vulnerable to the ravages of hurricanes as we are. They have direct air access to the US. They have beautiful beaches that we can only dream of. There are restaurants on every corner.

I am as patriotic as any other Dominican, but for business purposes you cannot fault them for making that decision. It really is a no brainer.

Only one comment that I disagree with concerning hurricanes. The fact that DA has mountains deters hurricanes. That is why less hit DA than the flatter islands. Maria was on a path to bypass DA but with weather weaponization and the capability of controlling and manipulating the weather, they turned it around to head directly into DA regardless.

        August 3, 2018

        How exactly is weather “weaponized?”

Who do you think weaponized Maria?

      • anonymous2
        August 4, 2018

Weaponized in various ways through planes that can actually fly into the eye of a hurricane. They also use various chemicals which are sprayed by the planes and can make the weather change within 24 hrs. Can create snow or rain, can redirect weather patterns and hurricanes. Look at the streaks in the sky from the planes when they fly over. Now, they are mainly flying at night so they aren’t as obvious to watchers of the skies. There are youtube videos, watch them. Haarp, NOAA and NASA are 3 of the main controllers.

Zandoli, Barbados, is indeed a fully developed country, during the colonial day; Briton invested heavily in places such as Barbados, Trinidad, Jamaica and Bermuda; the reality the weather pattern in the Caribbean are basically the same, unfortunately in recent years we are sequentially hit by hurricanes.

I do not believe there is anything scientific which proves that Dominica is more vulnerable  to hurricanes than any other place in the Caribbean; for that matter I can tell tell you the Eastern cost of the Unite States of America is as vulnerable as Dominica.

Hurricane does as much damage to New York, places such as Atlantic City New Jersey, Texas, and Florida; I am not even mentioning the tornadoes which are more dangerous than hurricanes wiping out entire communities.

Right this day the third day, of August, 2018 there is vast flooding in several states, which you have not heard about.

      Yea Hurricane Skerrit
I took a few months purge from this site to facilitate some cleansing but had to come back today.
You just wait for hurricane “you know who” then you will see a different rating scale for hurricanes. Were it not for concern for my country I actually wish it would happen. Listened to American news lately? See what hurricane Trump has brought America to? You just wait!
Do you people remember your comments here when Ross relocated temporarily after Maria? It was stuff like, let’s see what Skerrit going to do now. Skerrit is responsible for this if it were another government they would not have gone, etc. etc. You guys were full of glee and excitement because Ross going was another thing to blame on Skerrit.

Guess what. Go to Portsmouth and see how many Skerrits owe the bank for apartments; see how many may have to close their supermarkets; see how many will lose jobs; see how many small businesses disappear, then enjoy your sleep! Sick people.

        Barbara, you talking nonsense!

If Dominica was making any progress under Roosevelt Skerrit for the past eighteen years, Palmolive Colgate, Gleeden Paint, Dragon Windows, the Shine company, the company which grew Coral, the tram company, Brisbane, and lots of others which came and left because of Roosevelt politics, and Dominica’s backwardness would not have left!

You are still fighting and justifying that idiot Roosevelt Skerrit behavior which takes the country backwards by every corrupted move he makes.

Barbara, the Chines government advised Roosevelt Skerrit, that the only way Dominica will begin to make some progress is when he build an international Airport in the country!

        Did he take that advise?

Remember the Chines government had long given money to the UWP to be used in the International Airport they building, the that Roosevelt assisted in shutting down. It is Roosevelt stupidity which Ross University after forty years to pull out of the country!

Boy that’s a slap in our face. Skerrit’s chief advisors are Bajans like Harly Henry and Peter Wickham. It seems like they are now taking everything from Dominica and take them to Barbados, just as they brought Gonsalves to say Dominica cannot afford an international airport and as soon as he left Dominica he took our international airport. But then again when we don’t hear, don’t see we must feel. Just go back to the 2014 election and one would realize that the DLP manifesto and T/shirts were printed in Barbados to the point that Hartley bragged of how the Barbados economy benefited from the Dominica election. But is so we like it

Thank God it is not St. Lucia, else they would never return. Ross students prefer Dominica’s natural beauty and serenity. The naturalness, peace and tranquility of DA, will call the students back home. But before that happens, the people have to wake up and smell the coffee that Ross has been burning right there in front of their eyes and nose for a long time.

The disrespect to the university’s administration. Here we have a minister, who everyday, passes right by the largest private employer in the country, and he does not go in there regularly, and thank Ross for what it is doing for the country? Nonsense!

How the heck can any government make such a BooBoo?
How the heck can any people allow any government to make such a BooBoo to so detrimentally affect their livelihood of so many people is beyond me!!!!

Joseph de Maistre: wrote in 1811 “Every nation gets the government it deserves.”

      August 3, 2018

Respectfully disagree with the first paragraph; People don’t sign up to attend a medical school for the “natural beauty and serenity” of the locale. Most importantly, a multi-billion corporation isn’t going to put in the effort to “relocate” just for temporary means. It’s permanent.

While I agree with your analysis, I believe that Skeritt has a China plan to reopen the school. He too has apartments renting in the area. There is going to be students in that school very soon. De man is a shrewd politician.

Ross students don’t dictate where the campus will be. Students will go wherever Ross is- which will never be back in Dominica. The move off the island was boardroom fodder long before Maria, long before Erika.

      Chakademus
Because you are a Dominican. When others carrying the same nationality as yourself make a career of stabbing the country in its back, after a while the cover of collective protection gets blown and the pain of the constant backstabbing becomes personal sir.

Didn’t you know that is how it works? Why should Ross stay here and try to build Dominica when Dominicans were jumping up and down telling them to go so that they could see what Skerrit would do?

Have you ever thought of the situation we would be in after Maria and Erika if the international community had listened and taken in all the dirt that was dug up by Dominicans and aired daily in certain media for years?

You know, I just have this feeling that something will give, one way or the other to allow Dominicans to see without a doubt “who is who?”

      • Ibo France
        August 4, 2018

Barbara, reasoning and rationality is not your strongest suit. Dominica has stood still in time while others, all around her, have moved into modernity. The country hasn’t kept abreast with the changes that are required to retain and attract multi-million dollar business entities. People take out their frustration on governments throughout the Caribbean and the world. Do long established businesses just get and move as a result of the citizens airing their views in public? Your argument is so unconvincing and totally preposterous. You are trying to shield the gross incompetence of a regime that has long lost its usefulness. Only a shrewd, visionary and INCLUSIVE INCLUSIVE INCLUSIVE government will turn around the fortunes of this naturally blessed country.
