The Naval Support Ship RFA WAVE KNIGHT is expected to drop anchor in Dominica on April 5 for a three-day visit.

The ship is on deployment to the region on Atlantic Patrol Tasking North (APT(N)).

This is a year round commitment to the region in support of Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief (HADR) and Counter Narcotics Operations.

During WAVE KNIGHT’s visit to Roseau, the Commanding Officer Captain Ross Ferris will call on President Eluid Williams and the crew is planning to assist with repairs and maintenance to The Grotto Home and entertain some school children on board.

WAVE KNIGHT has loaded Humanitarian and Disaster Relief (HADR) and UK Department for International Development (DfID) stores to support relief operations in the region. Prior to deployment, the ship’s company of WAVE KNIGHT completed a HADR training package which tested and developed the ship’s company’s ability to plan and deliver support to relief operations.

“My Ship’s Company and I are very much looking forward to the visit and to forging relationships whilst being able to liaise with Disaster Management authorities regarding our capabilities,” Ferris said of the visit.

RFA WAVE KNIGHT is a 31,500 tonne Fleet Tanker which has the ability to refuel other naval vessels at sea from its three beam rigs and one stern rig as well as to carry dry stores.

The ship has recently under gone a refit at Cammell Lairds in Birkenhead following on from her last deployment which ended in March 12. This saw her supporting the international naval effort east of Suez, providing not only fuel for Coalition ships and aircraft but also carrying out front-line and anti-piracy duties.

“Our flexibility and capability is ably demonstrated by Wave Knight’s action packed  programme. This time last year operations East of Suez and this year operations in the Caribbean, with a major refit enroute. 2013 promises to be no less busy and satisfying,” Captain Ferris said.

You made a good point but that time has past. Dominica was once a full-fledged sovereign country. Not anymore since independence. It is no longer a British colony.
Democratic government Navel Ships have a right to visit if they so wish with the concurrence of the governments of the islands.
Recall in those days many migrated to the U.K. easily. They only had to get a passport, pay their passage and they were assured of landing in the U.K. Consider how many people worldwide, all sovereign countries as also those from India and Pakistan left for the U.K. Today, the U.K. is overflowing with migrants who settled there. The problems are many. Do not think that there will be an influx of migrants as it were in those days.
You are entitled to visit and who knows you may be successful in gaining entry. Those countries as the U.S., Canada and Europe are clamping down on migrants. It is not so easy to obtain landed status. Aside from the others, the economy and unemployment are two others. Due to this, it is not so easy to obtain landed status.
You know, what? Today, I would not encourage anyone to migrate to those countries for times are not as easy as they were in those days. Do not envy those who reside in those countries. Whatever they achieved it was through hard work and toil. They all have a story to tell. Thank God some of us are still alive and healthy so far. Some were not as fortunate.
Try and make it in Dominica. If you are young study hard and graduate. Learn something, be it a trade. Dominica has a college/university which it did not have in those days. It is also more progressive than in those days. I do think that Dominican residents are far better today than those of yesteryear. They must be appreciative.

I contend that we are the finest race in the world and that the more of the world we inhabit the better it is for the human race…What an alteration there would be if they Africans were brought under Anglo-Saxon influence.

I would feel much better if it were BRITISH AIRWAYS. However, I do hope Mr. Eluid Williams uses this call to ask the British for help in solving our crime problem which has escalated significantly since 2005. Also, I hope he uses this call to ask them to protect our nations from the invasion of them wang wang peng.

Exciting that they’re coming and doing good here. I’m sure the naysayers on here haven’t done much to help the grotto or entertain a class of schoolchildren, maybe they should be just a little bit more grateful that somebody has bothered to come from foreign to help out.

I wonder, will nationals be able to visit on the ship? I recall those days when a few of us would do so and after Matinee. No matinee in Dominica anymore? We lived as children – teenagers then. What about you? :)
When the Tall Ships visit Toronto, Ontarians are welcomed to visit. A few of us did. It was interesting. We were showed around, inside of the ship and received explanation on certain matters concerning the ship. Enjoyable, interesting and informative! The Tall Ships are beautiful.

Don’t fool yourselves, where there is smoke there is fire. No ship come in a developing count country for nothing. Remember, even though we are independent, see who still on our money, the Queen. Also, remember the present government has ties with all these communist countries.

America and England is working together, don’t fool yourselves. History can repeat itself. England control the English Caribbean, USA controls the USV’S and France control the French speaking Caribbean. People, we must watch and pray.

Nothing in this world is free. And, human beings now a days don’t do anything for nothing. I know a little about international politics. Big countries also want to know they could control the world as much as the can. Dominicans, the earth is the Lord’s and its fullness thereof. Please hold on to whatever valuable properties you have in Dominica. God is God, all the time.
