DOC’s Felix Wilson, LIME GM Jeffrey Baptiste

Dominica’s leading telecommunications provider LIME has been recognized by the International Olympic Committee for its support to sports on the island.

Through the Dominica Olympic Committee, LIME was selected as the recipient of The International Olympic Committee’s 2012 – IOC – Sport and Sustainable Development trophy.

Described by the DOC as “our long standing and outstanding telecommunications company” LIME is being recognized for its tremendous support, over many years, in the development and sustenance of sport and Culture in Dominica. Reading the citation, Secretary General of the DOC Thomas Dorsett highlighted LIME’s support to the DOC stating that, “LIME has partnered with the Dominica Olympic Committee for several years in sponsoring the Olympic Day celebrations as well as lending support to other sport and cultural projects, which has been achieved through the DOC’s Art and Culture Sub-committee and National Associations”.

Since 1985, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) launched an annual IOC trophy with a different theme according to contemporary trends. This year’s trophy was made available by the IOC to the DOC after identifying and selecting the recipient which best suited the theme which captured the true sense and operational appreciation of the words ‘Sustainable and Development’ and in so demonstrating, the DOC felt that LIME met the criteria and was the most deserving of the honor.

The award was presented to LIME General Manager Jeffrey Baptiste by President (Ag) of the DOC Felix Wilson. “With the presentation of this trophy, the IOC through the DOC is proud to reward LIME by way of this presentation, for sponsorship of local authorities which enable the development, creation or transformation of sport and other projects in a spirit of sustainable, in all its forms in Dominica”, he said.

LIME’s General Manager Jeffrey Baptiste accepted the award with humility commenting that LIME committed to helping create a better place for the people of the Caribbean and his company was living out that promise through its support of Sports and other key aspects of the local landscape including Culture, Education and Health. He pledged his company’s commitment to continue supporting sports development in Dominica and urged the populace to help LIME in achieving this goal by in turn supporting the company.

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Sports through the Sports Division awarded LIME with the ‘Sponsor of the Year’ award at its annual Sports Awards event. The company was nominated by the National Rounders Committee.
