Air Canada to service St. Vincent and the Grenadines

Air Canada on Friday St. Vincent and the Grenadines as one of six new routes for the airline’s winter season.

A release issued by Air Canada stated that weekly flights from Toronto to St.Vincent and the Grenadines are now available for purchase at aircanada.com and through travel agents.

According to Benjamin Smith, President, Passenger Airlines at Air Canada release “Air Canada is continuing its strategic, global expansion with a diverse range of exciting new non-stop routes this winter to Australia, South America, the Caribbean and the United States,”. The airline says its first long-haul international scheduled service to St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the other five destinations, “offers new choices for travellers looking to escape Canadian winters”.

CEO of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority, Glen Beache expressed his elation with the announcement stating that “we are happy to welcome an airline such as Air Canada which has a rich history, to St. Vincent and the Grenadines. We look forward to a successful partnership which will enable both entities to grow.”

The announcement from Air Canada comes as the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority continues on its quest to attract international carriers to the Argyle International Airport (AIA) which was officially opened on February 14th, 2017. The AIA boasts a 2,743 metre (9,000 foot) runway, 45 metres (150 feet) wide and is designed to accommodate aircraft as large as the Boeing 747-400s. The 171,000 square foot terminal building is designed to handle 1.5 million passengers annually, more than five times the capacity at E.T. Joshua. The AIA is further enhanced with jet bridges, lounges, restaurants, bars and other shops, all designed to provide all passengers with an experience in keeping with international standards.

Tourism has been the main foreign exchange earner for St.Vincent and the Grenadines over the last three decades and it is expected that the international airport will increase earnings in this sector. The Argyle International Airport is also expected to increase accessibility to this multi island destination, attracting direct flights from North America and Europe.

I commend you mister Gonzalves for pushing your country ahead. Those others are stuck in their kingdom of darkness selling passports and hoping that dasheen will play second fiddle. Good luck to them!

GOOD NEWS: now travelers won’t have to deal with the hassles of LIAT and those stopovers.

  11. The theory is: “If you build it, they will come!”

St. Vincent now has better access to the world, via International Flights; One can fly from St. Vincent to Canada, and connect to any place in Europe, and the continental United States of America. Of what use is LIAT to St. Vincent now?

As for us Dominicans, “we doh want no International Airport, because Antigua and Barbados have one already.” Anything to justify primitivism and backwardness, that is our main goal.”

Well done St Vincent,,,In the meantime, the gang which governs Dominica remains the most myopic, lazy, corrupt and wicked gang of leaders, not only in the OECS, but the Commonwealth. The country is still without a proper airport. Instead Skerrit is parading Labourites DRESSED IN RED to celebrate the opening of a bridge THE MOST BASIC PIECE OF INFRASTRUCTURE any government can provide to its people. No wonder we have descended into being a welfare state where the government is now the main provider of everything to the thousands of people it has plunged into poverty, abject poverty and indigency.
    SKERRIT MUST GO!!!

If they had seaplanes they could land here too. In fact, IF ALL MAJOR AIRLINES HAD SEAPLANES WE WOULD NOT NEED AN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

I originally intended this as a joke but it is worth serious consideration. Maybe it should be looked at by LIAT or someone as a an alternate method to reaching our island. However, after a brief internet search it seems that at best they can only carry 6 passengers and some cargo. Oh well, I’ll have to listen to Skerro embarrass himself talking airport again after 17 wasted years lining his pockets with no shame.

When is skerro gonna build our Int. airport, he stated that Dominica gonna be the envy of the Caribbean, [really] I am from Missouri the show me state , so show me.

Meanwhile, every time it rains heavy in the Northern part of Dominica, we collectively hold our breath and watch with horror, as the Marigot River “Rubbishes” Melville Hall Airport yet again and millions of dollars are wasted to repair it. I will take this opportunity to express my sincerest thanks to those “Jack-Ass Engineers” from overseas and the local Jack-Asses at home, who approved such a design placing the airport in the river mouth with a 2 foot-wall. Labor working like donkeys for the improvement of Dominica.

Nothing for Dominica Skerrit? Aren’t you and your dlp regime ashamed of what you have done to our beautiful country? After 17 years the best you could do is sell our passports to wanted criminals like NG Lap Seng, Allison Madueke, Aliereza Monfared and others, while other neiboring islands that once looked up to us, are now laughing at us? Skerrit, after 17 years you brought the country to absolute poverty and disgrace while you, who stated without a bicycle is richer than the country? How do you sleep at nights to see how you have used poor laborites as modern day slaves to remain in power? How do you even look to God in prayer with what you have done to Dominica? Keep on abusing us but one day that will end and you will receive your just reward.
