BUSINESS BYTE: Big Edge marks 1st anniversary with corporate contributions

Tahj Tavernier, Antonillia Doctrove

Big Edge Financial Express, the newest Financial Institution in Dominica has created history. To mark its First Anniversary of it’s operations the Company presented the first Sports Scholarship ever awarded to a Dominican Primary School student.

The scholarship which is named the Billy Doctrove Sports Scholarship after the Company’s Executive Director was officially presented to Tahj Tavernier a former student of the Soufriere Primary School who is now a first former at the St Mary Academy.

At an impressive ceremony which was held at the Company’s Office on 71 Hillsborough Street and attended by a wide cross section of well wishers the Company’s Managing Director, Antonillia Doctrove expressed her gratitude to the Dominican People for the support that they have given to Big Edge from since the Company opened it’s doors to the public in August last year.

Mrs. Doctrove stated that the Company had made borrowing more affordable to Dominicans but it was the opportunity to serve it’s Customers that gave the staff at Big Edge their greatest motivation.
” We have been extremely satisfied with the response of our Customers so far. It is the objective of Big Edge, that when Customers depart our doors they leave with an appreciative smile and are eager to return to experience the Big Edge “Par excellence” service that we have now become famous for. Though this is a business venture we will never forgo assisting people at the expense of profit making.
In recognizing our civic responsibility to the community which we serve we have decided to mark our First Anniversary by making two tangible contributions.

Jennifer Fadelle receives donation to Children’s Heart Fund

The first the Billy Doctrove Sports Scholarship and the second, a financial contribution of $1000 to the Children Heart Fund , a charity which Billy consistently contributed to during his umpiring career” Mrs. Doctrove stated.

Also addressing the function was the Sports Co-Ordinator, Trevor Shillingford who said that his Division was pleased to have been associated with this venture which proved that academics and sports can indeed successfully co exist. The Sports Division was responsible for making the final decision to determine the recipient of the scholarship.

The Minister of Sports ,Mrs. Justina Charles said she was thrilled and applauded Big Edge Financial Express for this exciting initiative of the Sports Scholarship. She said that she hoped this would encourage and inspire other Business Enterprises to follow suit.

The function which saw the Company recognize some of its most loyal customers was chaired by it’s Executive Director, former International Elite Cricket Umpire, Billy Doctrove.

I’m proud of this initiative. Big Edge really gave me an “edge” when I was really down. They consolidated 3 of my loans and I ended up with more disposable cash. Thanks Big Edge :-D

Its great that the Doctroves can make that kind of contribution after just one year of operation. They are both wonderful people with great personalities so I am really not surprised. Lets hope that other Companies can see it fit to follow their lead. Well done Big Edge

    Dear General Public,

Borrowing at 3 percent per month or 36% percent per annum is BAD.

It is like a drug, you take one ,You may never finish, as you are using up your disposal income which is already small.

Join a local credit union today, they will help.

Astaphans gives bank alot to social initiatives like scholarships, welfare dept, Chances etc…free grocery vouchers on a monthly basis. They just don’t broadcast it alot. Nassief on the other hand has NEVER given a capar…not one of the Nassief’s.

Admin: That’s not quite true, Ho. There’s the Elias Nassief Foundation that makes donations every year to a number of local institutions which provide social services to people in need.
