Electric Utility Domlec has reached out to its sister utilities in the Andros Island and Freeport in the Bahamas.

A team of five linesmen trained in Live line work headed by journeyman Peter Antoine and comprising Judah Alexander, Ken Christmas, Shaniel O’garro and Francis Jervier left Dominica on October 21st for Nassau returned home on November 19th, 2016 from the Bahamas.

The Bahamas Electric Company had indicated that electricity has been interrupted in the affected islands, because of downed power poles and lines, and damage to generators in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. The Transmission and Distribution network on both islands were extensively damaged.

The Domlec team was engaged in hotline work and other activities in restoring power to those persons whose lives were turned upside down.

Domlec has been providing post disaster relief support to other utilities in the region for a number of years.

At a small welcome home ceremony team Leader Antione said that customers there were elated noting that they went “beyond the call of duty’. He said their ability to restore power after a hurricane is another skill we as Dominicans can be proud of. As a result of this skill, they are prepared to assist other countries and work with linesmen throughout the region”.Antoine was particularly pleased with the reception the crew received from the Bahamians.

He expressed thanks to the management of Domlec for allowing the team to be part of the restoration process in other territories. Noting that such experience is always good for the younger linesmen, two of whom formed part of the team.
