Call center company to evaluate Dominica’s suitability for business

call centerIn an effort to create more jobs, especially for the countries young people, the Government of Dominica continues to increase investments in the call center business and invites investors to Dominica.

Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO) is a well-established business model for North American and European companies wanting to use offshore front office outsourcing for customer related services.

Following discussions with Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, Ambassador Vince Henderson and Senior Executives of BPO companies, one company is scheduled to visit Dominica within the next few days.

The Ministry Of Employment, Trade, Industry and Diaspora Affairs and Invest Dominica Authority will facilitate the team of Senior Managers who will visit the island to evaluate the suitability of Dominica for the establishment of a new call centre.

During this visit, the team will see proposed sites, conduct focus group discussions with potential managers and conduct language proficiency tests to assess the ability of applicants.

Invest Dominica has advised that individuals who wish to participate in these focus groups and proficiency testing are to register and submit their CV’s at the offices of Invest Dominica Authority or the Employment And Small Business Unit on the First Floor of the Financial Centre.

Offshore Call Centres are most attractive in developing countries and has become a multi-billion dollar business in countries like India and the Philippines.

The government of Dominica has over the years provided assistance to Call Centres in order to make Dominica a more competitive location.

The Government is also mindful of recent organizational changes at Clear Harbour and will continue to assist the company during this transition period.

Any jobs are welcome, as long as they are legityimate and offer decent wages. GIS could have been a bit more original, and made more effort with their press release though. This is almost a virtual crib of Wikipedia.

Mr. Skerrit please do not make the same mistake like you, your government and the Managers of Clear Harbor did with Comcast. If this company wants to pay XCD 3000.00 to bargaining unit employees a month please allow them to do so. Companies like these are constantly looking for cheaper labor so they are not here to stay indefinitely. We should therefore try to take as much as we can from them before they eventually make their exit. Remember, the more money in your citizens pocket, the more money they spend, the more taxes you collect and this eventually equates to more growth in the economy. This money will definitely be circulated in the country and everyone will be happy. :) :-D

If the language used in these comments is any indication of the general DA language proficiency, then I sincerely doubt that a call center company would want to do business here. Regional accents are one thing, but total absence of grammar and heavy reliance on local patois or slang is the kiss of death for any international communications facility.

“Offshore Call Centres are most attractive in developing countries and has become a multi-billion dollar business in countries like India and the Philippines.” The monies gained don’t get reinvested in those countries…don’t hang your heads on that premise. however, I really hope those “jobs” come through. Lots of people start their careers from call centers, even with a college degree. So don’t brush this off people, it’s not as bad as it sounds.

:( It does creat more jobs however it is unfair to those who wants a career instead of being on phones all day especially after spending many years studying.

Those who want a career should know what to do. People choose the career they want and study, train and work towards achieving that goal. Being on phones all day and being paid is work. This is better than hanging out on the roadside, begging or stealing other peoples property. If it is phone one can phone go and do it well. One can only succeed well in what he/she has been trained in. And off course, some people like to communicate. This is better than being on a cell phone all day, spending money instead of earning money.

Those who have a different career and are unable to obtain employment in their field, while being employed there, they could still seek alternate employment. They will not be prevented from doing so. If they do they should be discreet about it.

Are you ignorant or something? Who wants a career can always leave and go to study somewhere! Why do some people refuse to take any responsibility for their own advancement! Get with the program man!

How many people are being trained to create employment for themselves and others? Everyone wants to got to college and study business and psychology. Well let them psychoanalyze this business. Isn’t it strange that people go to university to come back to beg for a job like someone owes them employment? And to make matters worse, they always know how to run your business better than you? Go work in your call center eh and leave people alone.

It is a paying job as money in the bank which they could hold on to while they seek employment in their field.
