Our ship carnival liberty was supposed to dock in St. Kitts on Friday, april17, but serendipity occurred” fortunate accident”. . Our shipped docked off at Dominica. We fell in love with this beautiful country. The people are warm, friendly, accomodating. Shout out to Campbell our taxi driver who also gave us a fair price and beautiful tour of their wonderful beautiful country. He was so interactive. He also introduce to Jerry who accommodated us with his free delicious snack of fresh young coconuts, coconut sweets, fresh picked bananas, sugar cane, fresh pineapples and grapefruits. Jerry who was once in Toronto Canada. Campbell , thank you for taking us to the beautiful beach , and rainforest , waterfall and Titus river and all the beautiful places. Will definitely see you soon.

The Carnival Splendor was not a chartered cruise. Carnival was repositioning that ship from San Juan to Miami. I was on the ship and it was my second time in Dominica. The city of Roseau does need some road work and some traffic control around the cruise port. The island is beautiful and the people are awesome. I wish Carnival would make this island stop more frequently, there were hundreds of us on private tours and everyone of us enjoyed your island. I hope that your tourism board can work with Carnival to get ships to come to your island.

OK then. To settle this let the Minister or his tourism dept. give us the names and dates of Carnival ships that will visit Dominica for this season and next season. That is fair, isn’t it?

Why is it that we continue to bring down our nation. Whether it has 1 or 2 calls that means that it is back after being gone. Isn’t that good news for DA and the people who depends on tourism? Stop you all nasty politics and lets join together to build our nation.

Just remember not to make international headlines by arresting a gay couple for kissing in a ships balcony. That was terrible press for the island, and a turn off for the ships.

    • Woton
      November 6, 2014

I heard that their behavior was much more lewd than kissing. The behavior was condemned by some factions of the gay community in the US.

      • JoJo
        November 6, 2014

You are right Woton. As far as I’m concerned homosexuals can do what they want in private but what they did on that balcony in full public view would get heterosexuals arrested also. That was indecency and provocation.

    • The Facts
      November 6, 2014

Every country has its regulations. Tourists must respect the country and its laws when they visit. If this occurred in Canada, they would have been arrested and charged for indecent exposure and more – lewd behavior. What did they expect, to be given a pat on the back and a handshake and be told, “You did well?” I bet they will never try this again.
Looking for empathy and approval, they had the nerve to speak about it on TV. It was also broadcasted on CP24 in Toronto. I missed that program. I wanted to write that TV Station in no uncertain way.
In this era some people are not ashamed of their immoral actions in public. They do not care who sees them, adults or children. They are a disgrace and always will be.
They act in public view and expect to be accepted and applauded. What is worst, blinded by the light with veiled eyes, they do not consider their acts immoral but normal.
A holy man once said, today, some people have lost their sense of sin. Indeed especially types like that!

Dominica does not need any toxic waste and indecency. Bring love….but not in that form
      Bring finances….but not blood money
Bring families…..in the form of “Adam and Eve” not “Adam and Steve”
      Bring cameras……not surveillance tapes
MOST OF ALL, bring “JESUS”…..not lewdness.

Speak to Ian Douglas, the Min. of tourism and tell him to get glasses for myopia. He should not try and fool us. Roseau looking worse and smelling worse than last year. So who is making thing negative? The people who complain about it or those in charge but who do not want to see? And what is the Roseau Town Council doing about it? They just having a job, taking their salary and afraid to tackle government? They are the negative people that bring down the country.

God’s presence is everywhere, his eyes goes to and fro beholding the evil and the good. So as a God fearing nation, we will not stand for such open behavior in our country. As Christians we should stand against the gender equality agenda of the rest of the world by praying and fasting and calling on God for his mercy, so that when he is ready to pour out his judgment we will be spared. Roseau streets need to be kept clean for those of us who live here as well as visitors. I am utterly embarrassed by the filth in our streets. Street cleaning is not rocket science and the mayor and city council need to do their job.
Instead of political billboards, how about KEEP DOMINICA CLEAN billboards instead…
Additionally, with all the additional police on the streets to give tourists a sense of security, how about they help to keep traffic moving instead of just walking around?

    • Hmmm
      November 6, 2014

Really? you think Roseau is filthy? hmm, take a trip to New York (The Big Apple) my friend, check out Manhattan and see what filth is all about.

      • Roseau Girl
        November 6, 2014

Is it acceptable to have our streets of Roseau as messy as those in NY? Roseau is a small city compared to NY and if we just make an effort to keep it clean; it will be cleaned. It seems to me that Roseau has been neglected for too long. So many vagrants walking naked and harrassing all passersby for money; it is a real turn off. Let us be real here. Roseau is much too filthy. I have not even started talking about the traps on the sidewalks. Take a walk on the EC Loblack Bridge and you will see neglect. Those in authority have absolutely no regard for users of the streets. Its total disrespect for the people.

      • JoJo
        November 6, 2014

So because N.Y. is dirty it is ok for Roseau to be the same? Man, we should always strive for better standards, not lower ones. Anyway, N.Y.’s problem is not our own but Roseau is.

Well we were in town and due to our light coloured skin we were mistaken for tourists. Guess what was the first words out of the mouths of the tourists who spoke to us. ?? No idea, then let me enlighten you. WHAT A CRAPPY LITTLE TOWN.. Any idea of the second sentence ?? NO. Well it was OPEN DRAINS, HOW DISGUSTING. We tried to explain that this is a lovely and beautiful island. Sorry, but all they could see was the open drains, the smell, and garbage.

        November 7, 2014

Are you comparing Roseau to NYC? Really? I just spent 6 weeks in NYC and there was plenty of trash in the streets but what does that have to do with keeping Roseau clean? The comparison is ridiculous. btw, I confront folks here as well as in NYC if I see them littering. The consciousness of our people needs to be raised. If we had some pride (and common sense) everyone would be repulsed by the garbage on the streets of our town. Most folks who litter just figure it’s someone else’s ” job” to clean the streets.

Harlem, NY is in Manhattan. Whereas some affluent people as also celebrities reside in Manhattan (upper Manhattan :?: ). Harlem was a disgrace and dirty. This includes certain parts of the Bronze and Brooklyn and the likes.
I understood Harlem was once a beautiful place but as the buildings were allowed to deteriorate, a certain set of people moved in.
One look at that area and it would turn people off living and visiting NY. I have not been around that area for some years. I wonder if the old, broken down houses and some burnt ones have been repaired or is the area re-built. In order to do this, I suppose the tenants would have to be evacuated. Where could they reside?
Who would ever think that a place as NY, America has such areas? The NY government and landlords are to be blamed. There were no government regulations and no landlord and tenant act. It appeared that the government forgot that area; those people. The buildings were below sub-standard.
What a shame for NY; a shame for America which people from all over the world looked up to as the place to reside. Consider how many flocked to NY especially in those days.

Joe, I take pride in keeping my surroundings clean. I actually play police wherever I go around Dominica and educate young boys and girls and even adults about keeping the country clean and taking their litter home with them, if there is no place to dispose it. I wish you and many others would do the same. I love Dominica, and if we all play our parts in keeping it clean, we would not have to blame any Government or politician. Lets agree on this.

With all of the hoopla about the return of Carnival Cruise Lines, those appear to be ‘chartered’ calls, not any sort of regular scheduled calls. Don’t allow the wool to be pulled over your eyes. The ‘waters’ are still being tested. Wake up and smell the coffee.

Hon. Minister Ian Douglas is disingenuous. The Carnival “Splendor” is the first and last Carnival ship calling at Dominica this season – the season ends on28 April, 2015 with Royal Caribbean’s “Jewel of the Seas”. This first and only Carnival ship scheduled to call at Dominica for the next season, Nov. 2015 thru. April 2016 is the Carnival “Triumph” on 18 Feb., 2016. So there will be no more Carnival cruise ship coming to Dominica for the next 15 1/2 months. I’m afraid the Minister is making himself look ridiculous by claiming that Carnival have returned to Dominica and I wish he would have checked the facts before making such a claim.
You can check for your yourself on line by googling “cruise time tables”

This government press release is very misleading. Carnival has not really returned to Dominica. Since the cruise line pulled out of Dominica, one or two of its ships have come to Dominica, but they were all chartered. The same thing happened last year.

This year only two chartered Carnival ships will be making calls.

The mainstream ships have not returned and I don’t think they ever will. The day the new cruise ship season opened there was garbage all over Roseau and dog caca by Nassief on the Bayfront. Who wants to send their passengers to see garbage and dog caca nuh?

The year round weekly call is a Southern Caribbean Cruise which Carnival operates, Dominica was completely take off from the itinerary. And the ship spends an extra day at sea as an alternative. Readers before you all comment, please the Cruise Time Table web site you will see the Itinerary.
