Chartered flight service not going as planned

A test flight of the chartered service landed in Dominica on Friday, May 6

A chartered service, which promised direct flights from Ft. Lauderdale to Dominica several times a week, appears not to be going as planned.

The services were scheduled to begin June 2, 2016, but this has not materialized.

The service is said to be between Island Fun Tours, a tour company in Dominica, and RVR Aviation (Carrier) and Resort Air Services (DOT 380), which has been described as a “leading Jet Charter company from Fort Worth, Texas.”

As a matter of fact, a test flight of the service landed in Dominica on Friday, May 6, 2016.

Dominica News Online made several queries on the matter and was directed to Ron Whitehead of RVR Aviation.

DNO contacted RVR Aviation on several occasions but was told that Whitehead was not available and messages were left.

DNO also contacted Blair Webb, President of Island Fun Tours, but got no response.

A visit to Island Fun Tours website shows a page advertising the service with a “Book Now” button but that button is not active. CLICK HERE TO VISIT THE SITE.

DNO been reliably informed that everything was not in place for the June 2 date that was promised for the start of the service.

In late 2013, a company that called itself Caribbean Island Transport, or CIT Airways, promised nonstop flights from Florida to Dominica by January 2014.

However, that service never came to fruition and the company has since ceased to exist.

If things are not going as planned that would mean that this entire venture started off with bad planning. What type of research was done, who analysed it, what was the floor and sealing, what were the redundancy plans etc. ?

We have the internet now and plenty of talented people in Dominica and the region. A better analysis could have been done which would equal better planning.

Hmmmm isn’t it a CHARTERED service????? If I am not mistaken if there isn’t anyone requesting that service at this time how do we expect it to start operations??? Chartered meaning the cost of a ticket would be higher than the regular airline. Why not say just maybe no one is available for that private service at this time instead of blaming the Government. It’s a service for whoever can afford. Lord help us in Dominica especially those evil tongue that is trying to cast bad luck on Dominica because their party not in power. As my PM always say “God is good all the time and all the time God is good”. He will continue to guide and protect this country. God is great!!

You sound like a brain washed Labor supporter. When will you learn that developing our country has nothing to do with party colors and everything to do with sound judgment and planning. We do not have an Air-Start System for turbine engines, yet still over $100 million dollars was spent upgrading Melville Hall Airport.
Marigot Hospital is out of commission due to mold, but you continue with the political rubbish. Operant conditioning must be working wonders in Dominica. It’s easy to fool the gullible with cheap plywood and galvanize while they suffer.

Some of us need to open our eyes. The market place is filled with diverse people who desire diverse services. I lived in St. Kitts for a few years and their tourism industry survived by and was buoyed by chartered flights directly from Houston Texas, before they upgraded their airport. Some of us are accustomed to mediocrity so our entire way of thinking follows only what we know and what we have seen. We are unable to think beyond the “Chains of Slavery” that have been entrenched in our minds. So you keep thinking that because it’s a chartered service, it should fall apart. Although there are issues to be addressed, the fact that this option could be available to Dominica in the future is a step in the right direction. It’s clear that the operators did not do their homework, before they embarked upon this venture. It’s also quite clear that there was poor planning when the upgrades were done. We talk about being the nature island of the Caribbean, but we lack facilities to empty…

Stay-over visitors in Dominica continue to decline year after. One of the major reasons for this is the crazy connections and uncertainty of returning to one’s original destination on time. A successful charter service could provide Dominica with an additional source of stay over visitors whom the hotel and guest houses and tour operators desperately need, to remain profitable. Why is simple common sense logic so difficult to comprehend?

There are more negative Dominicans rather than positive ones. These give curses; not blessings.
It is always wise to offer encouragement and be positive rather than pessimistic.
When the time is right this airline will commence flights.
Should this not materialize, I have nothing to lose and will not worry about it.
I do not take advice, follow and listen to negative people who knock everything..
I will continue to state, it is a good idea. So be it.

Why are people assuming that this was a government initiative? As far as I know this is a private company doing a private arrangement. It has nothing to do with government. The propaganda machine is twisting every bit of news into a negative story – on both sides. When will we realize that this extremely high level of negativity is bound to leave a lasting effect? Do you think life will immediately improve if DLP is removed from power? Don’t you foresee the massive amount of effort it will take to rebuild national pride? I look forward to the day when we will stop the constant bashing of Dominicans and start to appreciate the differences in our people. It is important for our continuity as a people.

Thanks for being a kindred spirit. I have been trying to say exactly that for a long time on this site. What’s going on suggests to me that some people especially those in leadership are not focussing on the bigger picture. Some leaders seem to think that after fifteen, twenty years of pumping negativity into people and others responding in kind, somehow a miracle will happen if the government changes.

All civil servants who were being cursed on the one hand or encouraged to unethically pass out official documents on the other; citizens waking out of their beds, first thing in the morning to mad journalists spewing all kinds of irresponsible, unconfirmed and damaging allegations and attacks; disrespectful language and references to all institutions of the State; you just name it!

These people somehow believe that all this will all be wiped out with the counting of the last vote and election of a new government. We shall see, brothers and sisters!

Remember this announcement of a direct flight came at a time where air access into Dominica was worse than the already bothersome norm. The minister of tourism was present for the test flight and shared information about it coming to fruition, and a start date for service was provided. Isn’t it responsible for at least the same minister to provide a follow-up report? At the very least can’t we be told what went wrong, if it is just delayed or permanently suspended? It is this lack of information that inspires such little confidence in the population, and makes them as distrusting and cynical as they sound today.

You’re missing the point here. Those of us with common sense who love our country, realize that the citizens are being lied to day after day. Over $140 million dollars was spent upgrading Melville Hall Airport, but no mechanized carousel or Air-Start System was part of that upgrade. Why can’t our people differentiate between facts and lies told by the Cabal? Are we that brain-washed?

Dominicans are nothing more than joke people!

During the last General Election Skerrit got Wade to tell you all how they have Air Dominica flying across the United States, they drew the picture of an aircraft wrapped in a Dominica flag, and told you all how they are going to fly from Miami to Dominica, and they will only feeding people flying first class, and they would give them free rum too.

When called the authorities to out if any such airline is registered here, we were told no such airline exists.

So, this time in order for them to get people to go home and vote in the bi-election, they come up with a plan to charter some private plane to take people to Dominic, and told you all their enterprise would begging operating in June!

Now the making excused bi-election over. By somebody in Dominica is or perhaps we are all crazy!

The tactics of giving free food, and a sheet of galvanize works better everytime!

The best way to get a Dominican to follow you like a dog, is simply drop a crumb of bread as you walk along, as long as you keep dropping that bit of crumb, the dog will follow you.

By the time you run out of bread, the dog will turn around and run away!

      Hahahahahahahahahahaha!

When I was a kid my grandmother had a dog name Rex, it followed her wherever she went without her calling him. No matter what I did that dog would not follow me, until one day I got some bread and butter, and threw Rex a bit, and continued dropping bits of bread, he followed: I was about a mile away from the house going to plant fig, when I ran out of bread. By the time the dog ReX figured out I had no more free bread, he stopped following, I called out to the dog, he simply ran off back to the house.

One day Skerrit crumbs will run out!

The brain-washed Dominicans like yourself see exactly what the Almighty leader wants you to see. I feel sad and my heart cries for people like you. I hope you reside outside Dominica so you are able to access proper health care in the event of a serious illness.
Members of the Cabal will fly out to neighboring islands and beyond for the best medical treatment, while the poor are left to suffer and die. We learned that the Marigot Hospital has mold infestation. Before that, the Portsmouth Fire and Ambulance Station was infested with rodents. How can people like yourself who purport to be patriots of country ignore these facts. If you’re doing so deliberately, you’re just as wicked as those in power.

It is time that the political affairs of the country be made assessable by external agencies.
Now back to this plane story

I recall making a comment on a previous episode and said that this is not a good initiative having chartered flights from DOM to FortL and someone (the Observer) as I recall said I should read properly since the cast did not say chartered flight from DOM to FortL but from FortL to DOM. It would have been clear, I thought, that no aviation industry would allow an airline to come from a far distance filled and returned empty. It would only make sense to travel back with a full aircraft. (I only thought it would have made more sense)

But the failure of this flight says a couple of things.

    1. either the government was subsidizing the return portion of this flight and had a subtle reason for doing so
    2. since this flight did not materialize it indicates that someone failed to hold up to their promise
    3. if this flight…

    Observer – keep observing…

  14. DomiChina
    June 9, 2016

    AAGabriel, I disagree with you.
The Problem is with the Dominicans, and their thoughtlessness and forgetfulness while they continue to support a Government that does not support them. It is their unlearned behaviors that cause them to remain as beggars and swing with every low tide that the unsupportive Labor Party blow at them. Every ding dong they hear this red flagged party make they latch their belts and follow like empty barrels waiting to be filled, and then get shamed like a dog when they go begging and have to turn back with their tails under their hind legs. What is surprising and more humiliating… they return to the same ding dong.

If people want to be hopeless they will remain hopeless. but I cannot understand how Dominicans continue to allow themselves to be fooled. There is nothing in the laws that say if a PM has failed and continues to fail he must live out his 5 years tenure. There can be a vote of no confidence put to the President to order a by-election.

Why every discussion it has to be blamed or include the government? There are times Dominicans themselves keep themselves from striving and developing. They want progress but do not want to work or back it to develop. Stop pointing fingers at the government because you all are the government. The parliament are representatives of whom the people vote to represent them in parliament ; you all make choices of your parliament representatives that makes up the (government ) who try to develop your areas. The other problem that is affecting Dominica progress is the workers in the various department; they take a very long time to do their jobs which business needs to open and to move on to the other step. The workers attitudes need to be uaddress also in these department. These main issue that is preventing progress. These are the things that should be discussed rather than always blaming the PM. Domnicians need to get up from their bumbs and start doing for themselves .

Hoe can you be supportive of people who continue to insult our intelligence. Sorry guy some of us may be trapped in a fools paradise but it doesnt mean we are all fools.

  17. I recall when people were insinuating that this may very well be a fraud based on the history of the players involved, there were many who commented that the “nay-sayers” were too negative and part of the group labeled by the (one man) Government as “bringing down the Country”. Individuals such as Face the Facts, Barbara Saunders, Kid on the Block and Real Possie praised the initiative and expressed their joy in the convenience of catering to Dominicans in the Diaspora to come down and cast their votes (just kidding…sarcasm)! It was indeed welcoming news for some hardened supporters of the DLP. Maybe they were anticipating reuniting (briefly) with family members who somehow seem to have free time and money to charter direct flights to Dominica every election cycle. Unfortunately, this was not to be. This new charted flight service somehow seems to have never left the ground. I just hope that those who had already booked were refunded. Who’s laughing…not me!

      Dr. (too long to write)

I see that you have put me into a classification where I’m not sure I belong, but that’s the nature of human interaction in this here DA these days. Of course I was pleased to hear about the initiative, as I am about everything positive that happens or is proposed to happen in Dominica.

The amount of negativity and badmouthing which was poured out against the project it is not surprising that it has not happened. After all, even the Scriptures tell you that Life and death lie in the power of the tongue.

Go right ahead and enjoy the fruits of the self-fulfilling prophecies and revel in the failure of the project good sir! I certainly would not like to deprive you of your joy, but I continue to pray that the project or something similar happens. If the naysayers were right, more power to them but I would prefer to be wrong about something which I perceived to be good than right about something bad or negative.

      Peace Doctor!

    • June 9, 2016

I told them, perhaps now they understand what I conveyed.

The only reason they came up with this new venture in talk only, is because they needed a charter flight to take people they bribe with free flight home to vote in the bi-election.

No company on this planet would agree to become involved in a venture like that. For that to happen they would have to be guaranted a full fuselage of passengers in both direction. It could not happen unless there were no less than five or six hundred people traveling in both direction each day!

Aye DNO, it’s good to see your investigative journalists are at work investigating the news. I myself was wondering what was the latest on the chartered airline. A reputable news agency must not merely report “the news” but investigate “the news”.

DNO, can your investigative journalists update the general public on that young farmers group in Penville that received a $100,000 check from Roosevelt a few months ago presumably for farming.

DNO, has your investigative journalists found out which of the members of that “young farmers group” are actively engaged in farming and what FARMING use has the money they received from Roosevelt been put to.

      June 9, 2016

So because no one lost money, the media or DNO should just let it be.

You see, that is the reason people like you are fooled again and again and you bend over and take it all. Many times promises are made to Dominicans, the promises never come to fruition and people just shrug if off as if nothing happened. This is why politicians keep fooling people like you with promises and you jump up and down like idiots and when asked about the promises, you say is politics.

This important because I have people in the US asking about it and I am glad the media is asking questions.

In your mind it is trivial because it probably makes your prime minister look bad, if one of the planes had landed filled with money spending tourists and the media publish something about it, you and other idiots would be jumping praising your prime minister as the best thing since sliced bread.
