Local call center, Clear Harbor, has announced that it has re-hired all available staff made redundant in September, 2013.

Additionally the company said it plans to add some 130 employees over the next month and is projecting to hire a further 110 by the end of 2014, making it the largest number of staff ever employed in Dominica.

Six months ago Clear Harbor announced plans to hire 400 employees, with rehiring those made redundant in 2013 as part of the goal.

“To date, we have accomplished this goal by re-hiring all redundant staff that was available to return to full time employment with Clear Harbor,” the company said on Thursday. “This brings the current number of Clear Harbor Associates to 568.”

The company noted this is part of its growth plan announced in January 2014 and stated it is all “on track and on schedule.”

Chief Operating Officer of Clear Harbor, Brian Lambert said it is with “great personal pleasure” the announcement was made to re-hire all those made redundant.

“We are proud of the success that each of our associates has had over this past six months as they have helped us expand our presence here in Dominica,” he said. “With such a great team in place we are very optimistic concerning continued growth now and in the years to come.”

its a tough economy and desperation makes people do things they would never ordinarily do which includes working under duress and shame. all the same do what you have to do to feed your family under the assumption that it is worth the while. it doesn’t matter that the company makes US22 for each person that they hire, but they pay each person approximately US2, the fact is that we have something that we wouldn’t have had without them. that validates the lack of ethics, doesn’t it?

great news you call that but take a good look at it on the order side now if Dominica was doing so good like the gov say its doing do you think this people would have gotten a next job and clear harbor would then have to find some of the young kids to give the jobs think of that you Dominicas that’s just to say for all this months that had no way out no jobs so thay were just there doing what only them know how thay was eating

We appreciate that Clear Harbor has been creating employment for persons in Dominica but doesn’t it baffle you that no other call center has been attracted or encouraged by this DLP government to set up shop here. When government allows outsourced company as much power as clear Harbor has on its employee it just continues to illuminate the dictatorship running of this country. At CH its a hire/fire, cannot talk, do you what they please cause they can and treat you like shit cause the choices of employment is soo damn limited. HOW Long; Not much longer for the dictatorship government and the monopoly called Clear Harbor. When they have competetion you’ll see how quickly they will get their act together and start treating the reps with more dignity and respect and not as if they are beggars

I know Dominicans are not so bright but i didn’t expect them to be that dumb, i mean this country is one of the poorest in the Caribbean, Dominica is right next to Haiti when it comes to poverty and i just cant understand how people would be applauding a government that is stagnant, i mean people cry every day in this country, don’t have and cant even afford basic needs, i just cant understand this, are the people in Dominica under some kind of spell from their government, this is unbelievable.

I am happy to know that the young people are employed but it seems to me that making them redundant in the first place was just so that they can re employ them at a lower rate. This I think is unfair and just another way of playing the good citizens of Dominica. Why should they be paid less than US $3 per hour when the US minimum rate is $7.25?????

Good to hear indeed. However, please consider expanding into the labor market in the south with facilities already in place by the Grandbay high school, in an area encompassing the whole of Laplaine, Delices, Grandbay, Petit Savanne, with a wealth of high school grads who would like to remain their area close to home; without having to rent a place in Roseau for instance. Thank you.

Half a loaf is better than none and I am glad for those who are re-employed and their families but i will not sing praises to the politicians who may want to glorify themselves because this still does not improve the sorry state of the high unemployment in Dominica.

    July 31, 2014

If we dig deep enough we may find that the Labor party is the bank role to pay the recall. You know, the money to pay them may be part of what they used to pay the so called rum shop interns. By the time elections are over, they will become redundant again.

Another cheap political tactics, help provided by a company dabbling into local politics!

Francisco… that’s just dumb. this has nothing to do with labour. this is what happened.

1 CH had a had time so they had to make some changes which lead to persons loseing their jobs (this is how the business world works.
2 they made a promise to rehire those people when they can
3 they fulfill the promise and rehire those people.

were is the labour party in this? labour had NOTHING to do with the FIRING or HIRING of people in CH. Stop your stupidness

I do not understand why Dominicans, including (perhaps) me too are so damn stupid! Thanks for what? People will forever, spit in our face, and trample on us like door mats. When someone employs another person, they are not doing the employee a favor!

It is simply a matter of exchanging money for labor, the employer cares nothing about the employee, they pay you just that little so that you can show up for work week after week, month after month, which may possible run into years. You screw up on the job, the penalty is getting fired! You are out of there no matter how much you thank that person for paying far less than is enough to survive.

Another thing is this, an employer only retains the most productive workers; they keep the people who they profit from the most. It is all about profit, when one is hired, you are not hired because anybody like or love you. They have work to be done, they and their relatives cannot do the job by themselves, unless it is a candy, therefore they must hire, hired help, and that’s the bottom line.

Dominicans do not owe any body thanks for hiring them, if they: whether they get thanks from Dominicans, or not they do not care, money is what it is all about! It is the same old crap where it pertains to politicians; oh, thank Mr. So, and so, thank him for all he did. To hell with that, the politician came and bow lower than a dog, to the people begging for your votes, in order to get a job. He/she promised to do some something to the country which will help to improve the personal life’s of the people.

We expect such people to do what they are paid to do; nobody in Dominica is suppose to thank any politician for doing their job! Baloney; our people give every little pony, cat dog, and every other insect too much power, over themselves.

An employer only thank the worker when they are profiting off the back of that employee. I single handedly save an electronic company from bankruptcy in 1989, a Canadian company which once operated here, however, when the time came for laying off of people, my name was the first bloody name on the layoff list.

      Thank them my head!

If I comment on that, I will be noted as a negative person, nevertheless, if they are rehired, and paid less than previously, that in itself speaks volume! So, whereas I may seem negative to some people, my theory might just be correct!

Someone should ask why the recall, at less than they were paid previously; let us suppose the company was coerced into pretending to rehiring them, while the government foot the payroll.

(I doh no eh, ah just insinuating eh!; ah just fishing for de truth) You know, where it pertains to Dominica, if you saw someone walking upside-down, that might be very normal you know!
