The Dominica Cooperative Societies League Ltd (DCSCL) has received cash assistance of EC$30,000 from its counterpart in St. Vincent to aid in Dominica’s Tropical Storm Erika recovery efforts.
The donation was presented to the manager of the DCSCL, Aaron Dalrymple, by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Cooperative League Limited on Monday October 5th, 2015.
“Today on behalf of the Credit Union League and representing the credit unions and the Cooperative Societies, we are pleased to be presenting a cheque of $30,000, to you the General Manager of the League, Dominica,” President of the SVG Cooperative League, Kelvin Pompey said during the presentation ceremony held during Monday’s launch of a month of activities to observe Cooperative Month 2015.
He continued, “We hope that this amount will go some way in assisting the recovery of citizens of your country and members of the Credit Union movement.”
Dalrymple expressed his appreciation for the contribution which he said will, “certainly” go a “long way.”
Pompey also announced that the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Co-operative League has been selected to host the 14th Annual OECS Credit Union Summit next year.
“St Vincent and the Grenadines, as a founding and active member of the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions which emerged out of the West Indies Conference of Credit Societies in the 1960’s, we have consistently maintained representation at the leadership level of the CCCU since its inception,” he explained. “Given St Vincent and the Grenadines pivotal and critical role in this movement this league, that is the St Vincent and the Grenadines League has been selected to host the 14th Annual Credit Union Summit in August 2016.”
According to Pompey the SVG Credit League was the proud host of the esteem event when it was inaugurated back in 2003.
Over 300 Co-operators throughout the OECS are expected to attend the Summit, which is scheduled to take place in August 2016.
