Up to 60 government ministers, ambassadors and senior government officials from throughout the OECS region, as well as senior executives and officials from development organizations are expected to participate in a two-day geothermal workshop here in Dominica.

The workshop is being hosted by the government of Dominica in collaboration with International Development Group, Global Bilateral Division of the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

It kicks off on Wednesday with an opening ceremony at the Fort Young Hotel.

It is anticipated that the Workshop will be of value to ministers and senior government decision makers in determining how best to approach and realise geothermal potential – an area in which New Zealand is a recognised global leader, the ministry of energy said.

The workshop is expected to draw on the expertise and experiences of leading geothermal experts from New Zealand but will be focused on case studies of OECS members.

The hosting of this event in Dominica will, among other things, give tremendous support to consolidating and advancing Dominica’s professional relations with The Government and people of New Zealand, while championing the geothermal energy potential and benefit for Dominica and the region as a whole.

Vince Henderson, Permanent Representative of Dominica to the United Nations and Chairman of the Geothermal Deal Team was influential in ensuring that the Workshop is held in Dominica, following his visit to New Zealand in May 2013.

The OECS Secretariat is providing regional coordination support in the execution of the Workshop.

The Government of Dominica has already invested over $31-million in exploring the island’s geothermal potential.

We hearing just now on radio that Norris Prevost, a member pf Parliament especially responsible fo Roseau, is excluded from the meeting. What kind of democracy is this? Should not all people of Dominica be represented? This is Koko Makak. More and more Skerrit shooting himself in the foot.

Seek and you shall find. Knock and the door shall be opened. Good Job DLP!

I applaud the Dominica Labor Party for keeping the momentum toward constructive conferences with experts that will generate needed ways and means to make this Geothermal Exploration and Investment an economic reality to our lovely Dominica.

I am calling on the UWP to support DLP toward this project for the best economic interest of our country, Dominica.

    Regards,
Vincent Rolle, Houston, Texas, Laudat Dominica.
