credit_union_logo_greenA contingent of 30 Dominicans, representing five credit union on the island, is expected to attend the 11th OECS Credit Union Summit to be held in St. Kitts and Nevis.

The summit runs from August 21 to 25 under the theme “Innovation-Co-operation-Integration: Strategies for a Successful Co-operative Movement”.

Proposed topics include:
•    Innovations in Lending

The need for constant training so that directors can formulate proper policies and make decisions that are in the best interest of the organization which they serve cannot be overemphasized. I want the directors to act from an informed position.don’t you “Bayou of Pigs” and Deborah Peters?

Remember that the volunteers are not being paid. They make policies and work long hours. So what if they get a chance to gain knowledge to better themselves to better serve the credit unions. Please stop the hating.

I just must comment on this issue as it is going on for too long now. I am aware that the NCCU is on sound financial footing but it can crash if not managed properly . Please don’t get me wrong as I know it is important to attend such event but the size and composition of the delegation are areas for concern.
But Mr. President if you are so happy to be President you need to consider some basic fact and answer some simply questions.
    1. When persons are chosen for such summits, do ALL volunteers have the same chance of attending or is it some volunteers (BOD) carry more weight than others?
    2. Could be get a breakdown of the team in terms of percentages from the BOD, Credit Committee ,Supervisory Committee and Staff.
    3. Could the CEO give a breakdown on the cost to the institution for these trips ? well maybe we can prepare that for the AGM? And details of who traveled and when? Like who went to Panama ,Canada and St Kitts.
    4. Could some of that money be spent on staff training? We could really improve in the customer service area.
    5. What is the daily allowance each member receives when traveling ?
I have a few more but will leave them for the AGM so please come prepared.
Mr. President please take this in the positive and guide this important institution. Please don’t create another “TRIP FOR THE BOYS” institution in Dominica.

You make a valid point about being mindful of the cost to the institution for volunteers to attend conferences but I hope it’s not just a case of sour grapes

Agree with you bayou. that’s all those people on the board seem to be doing. They just came from Panama how many of them. With the economic crunch we are facing now when they cannot offer u much dividend etc, the board needs to start looking at cutting down on expenses. Too many people attend those things from this credit union of which I am a member.
