“The whole world seem to be going crazy over Coconut Oil so I decided to try making it.”

This is what entrepreneur, Anthea George told Dominica News Online (DNO) as she launches a line of Coconut Oil products.

George is from London but her mother is from Tranto in Castle Bruce.

She moved to Dominica a little over two years ago and has been producing Coconut Oil fused with a variety of added ingredients for over six months.

The products include Virgin Coconut Oil, Virgin Coconut Oil fused with Bay Leaf and Virgin Coconut Oil with Eucalyptus.

“The reason I decided to go into business using Virgin Coconut Oil is because I have always been so curious about it and we find the product fantastic,” George said. “So I decided to look into the manufacturing side and gave samples to my friends. They really loved it and discussed it with my family and we decided to take it a step further and look at fusions, particularly the Bay Leaf fusion and it did very well.”

She stated that she wants to present Coconut Oil in a different way.

“I decided to do something different because I have noticed in Dominica the Coconut Oil is packaged for the kitchen, so I decided to look at the beauty side- the cosmetics side, and packaged it in that way. So far it is going really well,” she said.

George has labeled her product ‘Cape Tranto’ in recognition of where her mother originated.

Her products are being produced in Goodwill, where her mother now lives.

She said the oils can be used in a variety of ways including as a skin moisturizer, to treat burns and itching, as a hair product and insect repellent especially when mixed with the Eucalyptus.

“We are very excited about it and looking at other ways where we can fuse the oil and look at other things as well, like body scrubs. That will be the next step,” George revealed.

The oils are being sold in the United Kingdom and four outlets in Dominica.

“We were very lucky and managed to get it on Amazon UK, which is not very easy, so we have done very well in that respect,” she said.

Locally the oils are being sold at Dominica Herbal Business Association Shop in the Old Market, Pirates Duty Free Shop, the Ruins Café and Lindo Mart Supermarket located in Goodwill.

“I hope to take it further in different areas in Dominica as well,” George stated.

The retail price of Virgin Coconut Oil is sold at $25 and Virgin Coconut Oil with additional ingredients cost $30 locally. On Amazon UK Virgin Coconut Oil costs £10 while the others with added ingredients costs £12.

George is hoping to sell her products in St Lucia followed by Barbados and possibly Antigua.

More information about the products can be sourced from the website www.capetranto.com.

If any one in England is interested in purchasing the oils, I have some from Anthea to sell. My teen age daughters swear by this oil. They use it to maintain the health of their hair and their skin.

I have a bottle of coconut cream on my dresser.

Various coconut products are used for a variety of skin conditions. They are very effective and recommended by doctors.

It takes courage to start a business and launch out with a new line of products. I wish Ms. George well in her new enterprise. Every big business started out the same way. I would not be surprised to see jars of Anthera’s Virgin Coconut Oil on Canadian shelves.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.

Take heed young Dominicans try to emulate this lady in order to provide employment for yourselves and others. Most successful countries comprise of small businesses and not government provide work in the public sector. Once again congratulation and good luck.

    March 13, 2015

The entire world has grasped coconut oil and its benefits. I have also read about its benefits (various ones) on certain Websites.
Coconut oil is expensive up here in Ontario. I have a bottle. Some people swear by the health benefit and effect of coconut oil which they derive from it.
I suppose you can put any herb as also mint and basil, etc. in the oil, giving it a different taste. It is also good for cooking.
I would think even though there are herbs in them aside from eucalyptus, this oil is healthy to drink in moderation.
Good luck and additional success to your enterprise. Hope to purchase some of your coconut oil sometime.

This lady has a lot of good ideas and has introduced an exciting model for producing and marketing her product. She should receive every encouragement and support from the government and other support agencies in Dominica; she is destined to create direct jobs and through the forward and backward linkages with the various sectors of the economy, she will impact a lot of people positively. Way to go. Good luck.

Why is it you people like to involve government into everything? Thus far she has done very well on her own, developing something from her very own thoughts; that is the meaning of been an entrepreneur, you pull yourself up from your boot straps.

Is it not better to start your business, put every effort into it; develop marketing, strategies without government involvement. Government involvement means political interference; in Dominica government involvement means she would have to label some of her products in red, she will also have to dress in red too.

You all need to keep your bad advise and let the woman function on her own: Where was the government started her business; I suspect it because she does not want to be a dependency on government for her survival why she created her business, try something similar on your own.

        March 15, 2015

        Involve government, of course!

So why are we paying our taxes? One of the key elements of governing a country is to foster enterprise by direct government intervention. it does this in numerous forms – one of which is by assisting Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), among others.

    Congratulations on your new venture

I actually paid £6.95 for a large jar of Jamaican cold pressed coconut oil in Lobdon. As previously noted, I have been searching without any luck to purchase Dominican Coconut oil, so I hope that your product will be available in London.

Very best wishes for this worthwhile venture.

I am pleased that someone has actually acknowledged that I have been highlighting and advocating the need for more Dominican products!

I want to spend my earned pounds on Dominican products, and this is the reason why I travel all over London in pursuit of the elusive Dominican product.

Last week I was in search of Dominican Cinnamon sticks, but could not find any, so I bought some Indian instead. I discarded it as it was very perfumed and not natural. Please could we have some exported to London,

I am starting to suffer from a defiency of Dominican cucumbers. My greengrocer advised me that he cannot source the Dominican ones.

Let me reiterate the words of the late great Mr Burns my geography teacher at the Convent High School ‘Dominica is one of the few places in the world, where practically anything will grow, because Dominica is blessed with versatile soil”!

There is a lucrative market in London for Dominican products, which is waiting to be tapped into!

I admire your entrepreneurship, your packing looks great, good job. I would hope you try and find a market in the US, because coconut oil earns big money here. You can find international buyers if you develop your personal website, and get it on an shopping search-engine.

Trust me on that advise: If you go to Girls97.com, you will find some natural products developed by a daughter of a Dominica father, and an Antiguan mother, ( I dou want to say the name of the Dominica father), but I can tell you the daughter products are earning big money for her!

You know the reason I intended not to say she is my daughter, is because I fear some people may say I am making a big deal out of it simple because she is my daughter. I used the healing slave on my cervical (that is I had a painful stiff neck ) sustained when I fell off my bed.

        Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah.

Since then I introduced to lots of people who told me the slave is very effective.

To be honest when I rub it on within seconds the pain and stiffness subsided. I never had faith in such natural products, now although I consider myself one who believes in medical science, and processed synthesis medication, my daughter has made a believer out of me!

I wish that lady in Dominica every success.
