Dominica’s manufacturing sector will receive a major boost and is expected to increase sales with greater exposure of their products by the historic opening 0f the first ever BUY DOMINICA SUPERCENTER: Home of Locally Manufactured Products, a sales outlet exclusively dedicated for the marketing and sale of locally
manufactured products today, December 1st, 2015.
A launching ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday 1st December at SYMZEES Restaurant directly opposite the facility, with the Minister of Commerce and Small Business Enterprise, Honorable Roslyn Paul; the Minister of Trade, Honorable Ian Douglas; the Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau Central constituency, Honorable Joseph Isaac; and officials of the Dominica Manufacturer’s Association scheduled to give remarks.
The facility is located on 33 King George V Street in Roseau and will be stocked with all products manufactured in Dominica, that meet the necessary quality standards and for which local manufacturers are willing to participate.
The BUY DOMINICA SUPERCENTER: Home of Locally Manufactured Products will be a One-Stop-Shop for all products made in Dominica and is expected to be the focal point for consumers, both nationals and visitors, who are interested in purchasing genuine Dominican products but experience difficulties in the sourcing of these products.
The facility will be managed by a management team of the executive of the Dominica Manufacturers Association and is expected to create employment for four persons at the commencement of operations and additional employment for manufacturers who will no longer be burdened with the lack of access to sales outlets.
The Dominica Manufacturers Association is a non-profit, non-government organization, whose objective is to represent the interest of Dominica’s manufacturers by creating opportunities for the sales and marketing of local products and at the same time encouraging high quality, cost effective and consistent supplies of these
products.
All manufacturers will be given access to the facility and they will benefit from all promotional activities undertaken in the various publicity campaigns. The criteria for participation are to have acceptably packaged products that meet the relevant quality standards and they should be members of the DMA.
This is splendid!
Visitors to Dominica will be pleasantly surprised to learn what is being manufactured on the island. It will also give them easy access.
I expect this will encourage manufacturers to put their best foot forward. Also nothing encourages new manufacturing like the knowledge that there will be a market for the products.
This is a wise move all the way around.
If and when God allows me to come to Dominica for ministry this will certainly be on my ”must visit” list and I will be leaving with a bag of goodies.
Buy local
Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.
Sometimes it’s good to start at the BOTTOM.
I wonder if Skerrit and dem using that. lol
Dominica is moving on. I love shopping at a supercenter. Who doesn’t? It is a way of life, shopping under one roof for most necessities.
It will be a treat to have a One-Stop Shop for local goods. I do think tourists and visitors will be pleased with this arrangement. They will not have to do much running around to purchase local products. It will be time-consuming and less tiring for them. This supercenter will serve an all-round purpose.
Good luck and success.
Awesome gesture…. hope the support is endless.
Labour…moving forward!!! We red, red, red, red!
Mr Tanner you lived in Dominica for a while and whatever happened you left.
I on behalf of all Dominicans apologize for whatever mishap or wrong that was
done to you.
That said please give us a break ,we have been ostracized, criminalized, deemed poor and unworthy, criticized and left for dead but the resilience in us keep popping up. Racism, theft, murder and robberies happens everywhere , Dominica is not immune.
We do not like it and will never condone bad and malicious behavior. So if you want to offer any kind of suggestion do that , it’s not worth it to hold grudges and wish bad on people who are just trying to live their lives. Not all of us are bad minded, politically inclined or mischievous. Most of us just want to see Dominica grow and become a place where all can reside and visit.
Hope you’ll find some little bit of forgiveness for Dominica.
Support local..Great initiative
Great news but remember that quality control is key to success as well as marketing!
This is a good idea. I hope the people support the local producers and that this then develops into more jobs and a wider market of exports.
This is wonderful.
There are too many things made in Dominica, unknown to local and visiting people. I am really excited about that great news.
I am looking forward to seeing things like the local “goodies” (coconut cheese, coconut tablet, gooseberry treat etc) sold there too.
The Nature Falls toilet paper is not thick enough for the price it’s being sold at. Classic tissue is almost twice the size of the Nature Falls. That’s the reason why I don’t support it. Even if we are to buy local, the manufacturers and them have to be competitive with packaging, price etc.
There are always lessons to be learned and situations in which improvements are possible.
This is a new venture. It is meeting a need and holds the promise of great things.
Support your own!
Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.
I thought that was what the market in Roseau was all along. Good vibes.
Fantastic initiative. I will support definitely!
Wonderful news and good luck with this venture. This is what Dominica needs to do, grow what you eat and encourage everyone to buy local,
This a great undertaking and good for the country. Hopefully nationals will patronise instead of buying imported goods.
This is also good for future manufactures.
PEACE
Best news ever!
Congratulations to the Dominica Manufacturers Association(DMA) on a job well done. I look forward in patronizing your establishment on my next visit to Dominica God willing.
Great initiative. One stop shop for local goods. Best wishes.
Best news ever, when i return home will definately spend my money, instead of gong to Whitchurch or Astaphans and if i know they are part of it will change my mind.
A good initiative; better still that it is happening right before the festivity of December –to spend money and make money; everyone should be satisfied. May God continue to bless Dominica and her growth slowly, but surely
Great!! Now good quality Dominican made items will be readily available in one spot making it easier for visitors and tourists. Hopefully supply will exceed demand.
Now, it’s all down to MARKETING, MARKETING, MARKETING. God Speed. This is a wonderful initiative!
Supercenter? A table will suffice for what little Dominica “manufactures”.
I bet when you get there your mouth will drop, we are always quick to criticize our own people and country, we do still have a lot of people here manufacturing a lot of products, even if its not on a wider market but we do infact, still have a lot. its a great idea and will do wonderful I am sure.
ikr
Really Dan Tanner? Try putting your money where your mouth is
You will be surprised
I notice that every comment you place is negative!
Are you actually living in Dominica?
Many people on this site live overseas and are very negative. Great initiative!!! I’m definitely supporting.
He lived in DA for a number of years but once he returned to his country (USA) he’s been criticizing DA. Mr. Tanner, accept your blessings for being born in a wealthy country. You did not choose the country of your birth neither did we; you just happened to hit the jackport. We are thankful for what we have and we enjoy the simple life. Why do you keep monitoring what is going on in our little island that you dislike so much?
Do live here? OK, I suppose you expect visitors to promote your island.
Give refit where credit is due. Promote your island…be good to YOURSELF.
Dan Turner, I remember you very well; you are the atheist who lived in Dominica, I contended against you in Dominica Weekly.
So you went back to your homeland, the USA, because you could not get permanent stay in Dominica–no wonder about your grievances–but you are not being fair to the reputation of our country and her Government.
Great, Great, Great initiative!!!! Kudos
Great initiative
This is fantastic news!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will be shopping there
Congratulations to the Dominica Manufacturers Association
