French investors to visit Dominica

In a move aimed at promoting Dominica as an investment destination a number of French nationals have been invited to the island on a special familiarization visit from November 23 to 26.

The group will be hosted by the Invest Dominica Authority (IDA) and the French Consul Herve Nizard.

In a release the IDA said the purpose of the visit is to promote Dominica as an investment destination and to allow potential investors to network with local companies.

The visit will also provide an opportunity for the group to enjoy the beauty of the island as a vacation location.

Based on expressions of interest the IDA said it will do proactive follow ups with the potential investors and facilitate subsequent business ventures.

The IDA expects some partnership arrangements with Dominican firms and the establishment of possible business opportunities as a result of the visit.

People seem blind to the extraordinary potential here in Dominica.
Ours is one of the few places on earth that is not producing pollution. With the development of Geo-thermal energy we could be a small engine reducing pollution at the same time we are producing inexpensive energy at home and an exportable resource bringing hard currency to our island. What we have here is unique on the planet, but we don’t appreciate it. French investors can bring needed capital for value added industries producing exportable goods. But those investments must be in partnership with local Dominican entrepreneurs or it will simply be exploitation and an ultimate drain on our economy.
Do we want six lane highways? Do we want air pollution, increased water resource depletion and pollution or do we want sensible development that does not stress what god gave us to protect and love?

Why do you like to see the glass half empty, and not half full ?
Economy in Dominica needs a boost. The best way to boost an economy is through investment.
Investment by Dominicans, and investment by foreigners. Most countries in the world are trying to attract foreign investment.
What type of investment is targetted ? Industry, hotels, business development. …. All of these creating jobs.

The French have been investing in Dominica since a long time. Their most valuable investment so far being probably the geothermal one, which will change the life of Dominica if all goes well by generating for the country a permanent daily revenue from export of electricity. Similar to what the petrol countries enjoy , but with electricity.

Can you imagine what will be the result of millions of Euro being paid each year to Dominica for its electricity by Guadeloupe and Martinique ?

Let’s see the glass half full! And let us warmly welcome investors from all over the world so they boost our economy and create jobs for our youth.

What is wrong with you? Are you really serious? My Anonymous, you have issues. Dominica cannot survive on just local investors like the small farmers. Look at the bigger countries. Don’t know that 90% of countries like the USA depend on foreign investment everyday. for example do you know the without the EC dollars the american dollar goes down. A country like Dominica that has so much rich and untouch soil, that we still importing carrots. (and please don’t tell me its the Government fault) Stop criticizing. You can be very annorying

i know for a fact, what the french want to do on Dominica, there are people who are already doing those things but cannot go further because of lack of help from the government. Now we saying let them do it cause they have the money, i think we will be satisfied when we cannot earn a decent dollar in our own country and just sit and watch forigners make all the money and run….. why cant dominicans get the money to do what discover dominica are discussing with the french. I wonder how easy it would be to make a major investment in the french countries. Now that France has lost their AAA ratings and things are begining to get rough, some people want to run. Trust me is not the poor people who want to run, they will be doing just fine, even better than they were doing a couple years ago. Millionaires might have to pay 70% tax so they trying to get away from that. Those people will ruin everything for us here.

      November 21, 2012

how can you compete when you do not have money. the people who are coming in have money so there won’t be any competition, just smooth sailing for them while we dominica stay and scrunt. Check how many chinese store in roseau and then check how many stores own by Dominica and then check to see which ones are making money.
