One of Dominica’s leading tourism establishments, Fort Young Hotel, has joined the prestigious Expedition Collection of Guy Harvey Outpost Resorts.

The move is expected to expose Dominica to more sophisticated niche market divers.

Guy Harvey Outpost properties feature beach, boating, fishing and diving amenities and programs.

According to the company, its mission is to inspire travel to unique destinations, promote sustainable tourism and engage travelers in environmentally responsible and memorable activities.

The announcement that it had added Fort Young to its portfolio was made by President of Guy Harvey Outpost Resorts, Mark Ellert, on Monday.

“Dominica is known as the ‘Nature Island’ for good reason”, he stated, “Having an Outpost here is a strategic complement to our presence in the Galapagos. The eco-system here is equally unique in its natural diversity, all-around adventure and spectacular diving. Like the Galapagos, the waters around Dominica are protected marine reserve areas.Dominica offers breath-taking experiences of every kind – from walls to reefs, encounters with sperm whales and dolphins, to swimming thru the bubbles of underwater volcanic fissures.”

General manager of Fort Young Hotel Mavlyn James told DNO that being part of Outposts, “gives the hotel access to a large network of divers that we’ve not been able to get on our own.”

“This designation also signifies to the diving world that we are a hotel that offers superior services and amenities that our divers are looking for,” she explained. “It also says that we are serious about offering the world class diving experience to our dive guests … so we see it as a great benefit for the hotel.”

James also explained that Guy Harvey Outposts looks at different hotels and destinations and chooses the best one that it feels matches its brand and what it sells to its customers.

“So they know that Dominica is one of the top diving destinations in the world and they wanted to have a representative on Dominica and they felt that Fort Young had what they are looking for in terms of our amenities, our service … so they felt that what we offer matches what they are looking for, hence the relationship that we have now developed,” she said.

Guy Harvey Outpost Resorts is based in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
