One of Dominica’s leading Pharmacies Jolly’s Pharmacy was recently honored at the Caribbean Pharmacy Association (CAP) conference held in Guyana.

The company secured the second place position in the 2015 Caribbean Pharmacist Sigma Business Award, in the Best Pharmacy category.

The Caribbean Pharmacist Sigma Business Award recognizes deserving pharmacies throughout the region that epitomizes the best of the pharmacy business culture, and provides the setting, service and support for community.

Public Relations Officer, (PRO) of Jolly’s Pharmacy Carlton Lanquedoc told Dominica News Online (DNO) on Friday that the company is extremely happy to receive such award because “it signifies our work within the Dominican populace.”

“Even more so we recognize that the region is also looking at the works that we have been doing,” he stated.

According to him for the past four years the company has concentrated, “health education and promotion and lifestyle changes and this is one of the criterion that was used in determining the award.”

“So it wasn’t based on just about business in terms of monetary transactions but it was based on the philanthropic side and at the same time in terms of what type of information are we disseminating to our populace,” he explained.

He said the company is also happy to share the honor with Dominica and with its customers.

Lanquedoc stated that a pharmacy in Trinidad and Tobago received the first place position in the awards.

The 35th annual convention of CAP was held in collaboration with the Guyana Pharmacists Association (GPA).

The event was held under the theme, “The Pharmacist – A vital link in providing quality health care, the health professionals.”

Mr Jolly you did not wait on the Government to help you, you grow up with no running water yet still you pick up your self from nothing to something. You took the risk and do for self. You did not become a proffesional begger. You were smart enough to know the British education was bad and not become a civil servant, my hat goes out to you and your family. Thank you sir you are my hero write a book and show and tell us how to do it. We have to many proffesional beggers in the country waiting for Government to solve all problems while they make babies with different baby daddy and do nothing all day waiting from a check from money gram to buy kentucky fried chicken. At 10.00 o’clock in the morning you cannot even walk in Roseau, to many lazy people in the country.

To be precise, many people came from humble beginnings, were poor and went on to be successful.
At the same time, some were successful and others were not. We could ask why. As the words of a song: “The answer my friend is blowing in the wind.”
The saying, too: being in the right place, at the right time. Just sheer luck.
Granted, there are some who did not make use of their God-given talents and who wasted them. There are also reasons for that. Prior to making judgments about them, we must first find out the reason for this.
Some people need to be helped and also need a good push. Those whom they associated with may not have been influential. You know, bad company corrupts.
It is never too late to change.
This is why such discipline should be taught in the schools. I visualize, not only in D/ca but in Canada, US, Europe and other parts of specifically democratic countries where people have the freedom to do as they please. This is worth a good thought.
