Josephine Gabriel and Company to compensate ex-employees

The Waterfront and Allied Workers Union (WAWU) has gained success at another tribunal by securing compensation packages for two former employees of Josephine Gabriel and Company Limited.

WAWU challenged the grounds on which the employment of then salesman Robert Abraham and driver Albert Titre were terminated in 2008, and a tribunal found that the men were dismissed unlawfully, WAWU Secretary-Treasurer Kertiste Augustus revealed on Tuesday.

The tribunal ruled that Josephine Gabriel should pay Abraham $16,000 in addition to $7,340 to be paid by the company upon terminating Abraham’s employment. The company is to pay Titre $4,200.

Josephine Gabriel is expected to compensate both men before April 30 2011, Augustus said.

“We from the Waterfront and Allied Workers Union are pleased that we are able to give effective representation to our members,” he added.
