Kubuli Beer hits St. Lucian market

kubuli beerSt. Lucians who have developed a fondness for locally brewed beer, Kubuli, will no longer have to travel to Dominica to enjoy it.

The beer is now available at retail outlets, bars and restaurants across St. Lucia, thanks to its distributor in that country, Bryden’s.

It is said that the beer has attracted many fans among St. Lucians, especially those who visit Dominica for the World Creole Music Festival. However, it was not widely available on the island.

Brand Manager of Kubuli in St. Lucia, Kim Florent, told The St. Lucia Star that the beer is being introduced on the island at an affordable price and comes as part of Brydens’ commitment to continue sourcing new, exciting, quality products to be made available to the St Lucian people. “One of the highlights of this great beer is the fact that it is brewed with one hundred percent natural spring water and under the strictest brewing processes and quality checks,” Florent said.

He said the beer gives the discerning St. Lucian drinker a choice. ““And we think that Kubuli is a great choice and one we are proud to be associated with here in the Saint Lucian Market,” he told St. Lucia Star.

Kubuli derives its name from Waitukubuli, the Kalinago name for Dominica. It is brewed by Dominica Brewery & Beverages Ltd. which is located at Snug Corner, Loubiere.

The company employs 70 full time staff and some of its export markets include St. Thomas, St. Croix, Tortola, Anguilla, Antigua, St. Kitts, Montserrat, Martinique, Guadeloupe, St Lucia, Barbados.

Kubuli is brewed with 100 percent natural spring water, the finest malted barley, hops, yeast and sugar and is described as a “German-oriented beer.”

It is the recipient of a Gold award from the reputable “Monde Selection” Quality Awards.

DNO can u please inform us of the date which kubuli was a gold award recipient. Everyone in d a is drinking Carib or Heineken which are both brewed abroad and in 2013 only kubuli hit lucia. D a to lucia not far this should have been done ages ago and by now should have been well known globally.cmon kubuli is proven to be the best amongst the rest it should be all over the world. Anyway enough said on that let’s take it further now.

PS. if I were the owner of the sister brands in the neighbouring islands I would seriously think about concentrating my brewing activities in Dominica under one label, certainly within the OECS, to achieve economies of scale with a proven premium product.

This is great news as Kubili benefits from DA’s natural spring water and the origins of the German hoffmeisters have impacted on a very positive way.

I am relatively humble beer connoisseur having drunk brews from Africa, Australia, Japan, China, India, Thailand, US,UK, Europe and Caribbean-DA’s brew stands the test of time and can compete globally.

I have to say Heineken and Piton is mediocre when compared with Kubili

It is ironic that if successful the new export channels will bring much needed FOREX to DA, as Brydens is Bajan Retailing and Distribution Company with LATAM, US, UK and Caribbean strategic partners too. This panacea should be used to increase DA’s food, flower and fauna exports too. The Government, DEXIA, agriculturists, business people, DA banana producers, Tourism bodies and the Huxters Assoc have to deploy an aggressive holistic marketing strategy to plan a concerted global push. Whilst avoiding being hijacked by inept parodies of the charades who called themselves directors and managers with no specialist knowledge, but are put into their roles and positions due patronage and nepotism, a juxtaposition to the scholastic and experience of ‘merit’

Finally, I could draft this plan, but will not as what frustrates me about DA is where there is a will, the way is blocked. :(

You mean OECS Economic Union. What has CSME done for us lately?

Don’t see the beer in ANU so much though. I really enjoy it and I’m not really a beer drinker.

Kubuli, Piton, Wadadli and God knows whatever beer brewed all over same beer different local label….The argument however is if beer is rated by the quality of the water then Kubuli would have the edge of pure spring….

      April 8, 2013

Graham, you are so right! I have tried the beer from the same stable in Antigua, which is brewed to the same recipe but our Kubuli wins hands down every time. The biggest ingredient being water must explain this huge difference. The pure spring water used in the Dominica process gives a superior lavour that just can not be imitated.

No. CND’s brand is Presidente beer since 1935, and has since expanded to other brands such as Bohemia Especial, Presidente Light and Ambar.
Kubuli is cosa nuestra – brewed and belongs at least in part to Dominica Brewery & Beverages Ltd.

Countries have regulations. It is not always Dominica’s fault.

PS. There is something elswe worth mentioning. The Guinness brewed locally by Dominica Brewery is dynamite! It even beats its famous Irish parent, believe me.It is liquid soul food and a power booster, all at the same time! Black gold, I call it. Unbeatable!

St Lucia isn’t in a great negotiating position when it comes to beer, we have been importing Heineken beer en-masse from St Lucia for several decades. Further more we import large quantities of soft drinks from them. So quite frankly this is long overdue.

  30. My view
    April 5, 2013

Well it was about time. I think our marketing of this beer is very poor.
