The management of LIAT has agreed to compensate staff in accordance with a severance package agreement.
That confirmation came from the Secretary-Treasurer of the Waterfront and Allied Workers Union Kertiste Augustus.
Four local LIAT employees were made redundant following the company’s decision to close it ticketing offices across the region.
However LIAT’s management did not comply with the severance agreement to compensate staff for not providing two months notice of termination to its employees.
“Management has sent the letters where they have made severance packages available to workers. They have paid them everything except the two months notice and this is the issue we have with them. But there is indication from LIAT that the matter has been placed before the finance committee and in the next two weeks, we will be told when such payments will be made,” he said.
According to Augustus once that payment is received this will bring closure to all benefits that workers are expected to receive.
