LIAT and Dominica officials hold talks

A LIAT flight in Dominica
A LIAT flight in Dominica

ROSEAU, Dominica, May 05 2016 – Dominica Government officials and a team from regional airline LIAT are meeting here Thursday.

The meeting comes in the wake of criticism by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit over what he called Dominica’s treatment by LIAT.

“Actually, we are meeting with the LIAT executives to continue to lobby for better access in and out of Dominica,” Tourism Minister Robert Tonge said.

Dominica, along with Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados and St. Vincent and the Grenadines are the major shareholder governments of the airline.

How do they hope to gain the confidence of the Dominican people when they cannot be honest on this one simple issue.

The opinion of some Dominicans on social media is their property and not the views of all Dominicans.Liat has bee getting away with it,s atrocious service to Dominica because too many dominicans treats this issue as a political problem ,which they believe they can use to hurl insults and abuse at leaders of the country.
Liat has created the problem it is part of their policy to create air travel problems for dominica,so as to discourage people from visiting Dominica.the problem lies with their management and staff, they are responsible for resolving the problem.meeting with tourism official in Dominica is just a show trying to reate the impression that those tourism officials are part of the problem.
When Dominicans will get to understand that this is a business problem and decide as a people we are going to confront liat,we shall not see an end to this acrimonious attitude by liat towards Dominicans.those people engaged in promoting this issue as a political problem, how do they…

Now that the P.M. Is angry with DA treatment at the hands of LIAT let hope for drastic change. I may have the faith of the Male papaya tree. Congratulations In advance.

The 8 million should have been spent on improving our tourist attractions making them more desierable to foreigners. More effort should be placed on getting at least three full flights of tourst a day. That would solve our liat problem. If we have trouble getting dominicans to Dominica how do we expect to get stay over and return tourist. The 8 million could get us at least 4 garbage trucks to clean Roseau. First time i hear share holders not wowrying about profitability. We need traffic. No bus driver going make money from possie to roseau carrying 2 passangers every trip.

This meeting is another waste of time of Tax Payers money. It’s akin to being in a bad relationship and hoping that the offending party will change their behavior, when the only solution is to say thanks for the good memories and end it.
The fact that this government in particular continues to pour money down into the sink hole near the river that is Melville Hall Airport is the 800 pound gorilla in the room. This wine and dine meeting will not change supply and demand in addition to the low number of stay over travelers who chose other destinations over us. If I were in their “Shoes” I would create every possible opportunity to sit in an air-conditioned room, talk nonsense all day, eat the finest foods and drink all that I can while accomplishing absolutely nothing.

What they should ask LIAT is, what they did with our $8 million dollars Skerrit gave them. But then again LIAT would tell them most of the money was put toward transporting Dominican voters residing in the DIASPORA to vote for the DLP in 2005, 2009, and 2014. So LIAT gave them value for their money and therefore they should all shut it up and allow Dominica to remain a mathematical calculation under Skerrit

Floridian Diaspora… You are not a true Dominican you are to negative. If you love your country so much, you must help to build it. Whether you are in Florida or Dominica the Country belong to all of us. Its people like you that bring the country down, find something positive to say you are 100% negative always. If you are in Florida you may not have been born there or if you have, you have roots in the Country you want to destroy. If you are right here pretending to be out there your negative words are falling on death ears. Grow up and learn to be positive. This is a bless country and God is in control and will make this country the best place to live. TAKE THAT A SMOKE IT……

Tell me how are my words brining the country down more than Skeritt’s reckless actions??? Everything perishing under labor. I will continue to blast them for the whole world to know

    • May 7, 2016

I was born in London. From when I was born I herd the noise of cars and breathed fumes. If you think Dominica has nothing to offer then you should leave and experience what it’s like living in a city, holding down 3 jobs and traveling through fumes everyday. Let’s see how long you hold out before you beg to come back.

Liat should cancel all flights to Dominica permanently. Unlike the other Caribbean islands, Skeritt’s paradise is a shame to visit. It literally stinks because of misplaced sewage, there’s nothing to do, the majority of his supporters are starving, ulcerated stomachs, no work, no night life, poor day life, expensive unaffordable shop items, ugly unattractive rusty galvanize airport, three hours passing before a single plane land there, dead economy, NEP, RED clinic, victimization, demonization, dictatorship. God might not even waste his time and burn Dominica in hell after judgement day. It would simply be waste of his time. Time for an international airport and rebuild the country you waste of time ever backward thinking politicians.

The country deserves to be cried down. There’s nothing to feel uplifting about. Skeritt has failed Dominica bigtime. NEP is not the way to go. If it wasn’t for Courts and Astaphans a lot of Dominicans would not even have a television and a washing machine. Yet here you are like an internet troll trying to defend this.

Best of Luck. Also we want cheaper rates. Why should it cost me more to go to St. Lucia than to go to Barbados or Trinidad?

  16. May 5, 2016

Well, here is a good thing that we can finally report on the actions of our dear Supreme Leader. The Honourable Doctor Roosevelt Skerrit’s admonition to LIAT is actually bearing fruit. This meeting is in fact a very good start in getting LIAT to take Dominica and Dominican travelers seriously. Congrats Mr. Supreme Leader, you have scored a point in my good book.

    • When will these blind worshippers learn?
      May 5, 2016

Ridiculous. Ever wondered why we are this point in the 1st place? Should we thank your Supreme leader too for the reduction in flights to/from DA by Liat in recent times? BTW, has the airport received full certification yet since Erika?
