NBD speaks out on “inaccurate statements” via media

PRESS STATEMENT: It has come to the attention of the Board of Directors of the National Bank of Dominica Ltd that various inaccurate statements have been made on a local radio station about the safety and soundness of the bank and the propriety of its business decisions and transactions.

The NBD Ltd, as a financial institution will not respond to these allegations as a result of its confidentiality obligations. However, the Board of Directors of NBD Ltd would like to make it abundantly clear that the Bank is strong and has weathered the impact of the downturn in the global and regional economies.  In addition, the Board, through its several committees and in particular the internal audit committee, continues to rigorously oversee the affairs of the Bank and informs that the Bank is prudently managed in accordance with international best practice.

The depositors and shareholders are assured that at all times decisions are made in consideration of their best interest. Shareholders are reminded to attend the Annual General Meeting scheduled to be held on Monday March 8th 2010.

Signed,

Patrick Pemberton

Chairman

Board of Directors of NBD Ltd

Mr Pemberton as a young person I had high respect for you but you disappoint me. I return to reside in D.A. after being oversea s for years. My respect for you and others have changed. By following events in D.A. the shareholders asking questions and you not being honest with them irritated me. I actually left D.A because I expected much more from my beloved Country

Challenge- please if you think the men on Q95 do not know the facts, then for heavens sake get the facts for us. Go to the AGM , ask questions. inform yourself, educate yourself.
Some of us Dominicans just like to remain in a state of ignorance, we do not want to know, we do not want to hear , we do not even want to keep a decent discussion, to agree or to disagree.
You sound like one of those persons and its just very sad when persons cannot sit and talk without being threatened .

People, condemnation without investigation is the height of ignorance. Mr Linton may have his Political agenda which some of us are in disagreement with, and I ‘m one of them but after listen to Mr Linton comments regarding the NBD and the questions he asked, I think he has a right to ask these questions which are legitimate and most Dominicans should be concerned..

He is just asking questions as every one should do to their financial Institutions, especially in times like this where we are seeing what is happening globally in the Finance Industry. Mr Linton did not advocate People to make a run to the Bank and withdraw their money. I think the questions asked by Mr Linton, if were to be answered honestly and truthfully then I think the matter would be Put to rest, but bear in mind there is a forum where this can be done and talked about , and that is the Annual General Meeting of the Bank which is schedule as stated by the Chairman of the Board of Directors Mr Pemberton.

johnny p and the others, it is not about the messenger, its about the message, its about rigting the wrongs that are going on, in our bank. we all can’t do all the research so the few on q 95 are doing it for us, so why are we bent on destroying them, it is not about politics because we are told we have 5.5 years to talk still, its about doing things the right way, we will eventually collapse we will see, keep attacking the messenger still but we yet to see any of the names mentioned under all the different investigations, take mr. linton to court for defirmation of character, or spreading rumors that are not true, not one has taken him to task, so lennox must be doing something right. but don’t worry, we just waiting for another madioff to happen before we stop attacking the messenger.

keep up the good work lennox and the other journalists without you all, alot of things would not be out there in the public, trust me, i believe you are keeping some things from going wrong with your investigative journalism. continue the good work and we will be listening.

If the big players of the international banking institutions can swindle their customers and not only get away with it but be rewarded by huge government bail-outs, then it is to be expected that some of the smaller players will also try their luck. What is frightening today is that your savings are not really safe anywhere!

Well i believe we need to start talking after the AGM. till then we are just speculating…

@ all the doubting Thomas and posters on this article:

Yeah, Keep on dreaming. You all must be the third group of people: Those who wondered what happen. I for one am going to close down my account with this bank PDQ. Remember the British American Insurance fiasco? while they were busy trying to lie to the policy holders the whole thing was crashing around their ears.

Mr. Linton knows very well he can be sued, so he never brings out any information unless he is damn sure of his facts.

Mr. Trevor Johnson if you knew anything about banking then you would know that the bank cannot identify anyone that it has given loans to. That is a breach of Section 32 of the Banking Act No. 16 of 2005 of the Commonwealth of Dominica.

We all want to know when it is someone else’s business but how would we like the Bank to discusss our personal account information in the National Media. I mean come on people. The Manager answers to the Board, the Board to the Shareholders. If the shareholders have questions they should go the the AGM for answers, but don’t expect the Bank to defend these accusations in the public forum.

I am the type of person who when I am confronted with information I do the opposite I do not attack the messenger instead I take the information and I do my own research and depending on what I find out I would be in a better position to give my feedback, but what we as DOMINICANS are lacking is the ability of investigating situations for ourselves before we open out mouth and when we do we attack the messenger we dont have the knowledge of understanding issue.
I understand that the financial business is one that the ordinary person would have some difficulty comprehending but that do not mean the facts in question are wrong, people stop being a clot put on your thinking cap and evaluate the matter and you will be surprised how much you would have learned instead of expressing your disapproval of others,.remember these Journalist and Reporters go out there every day gather the facts research them and then bring it to us, another thing sometimes their are employees that haven got a clue of what is going on behind closed doors just what they are asigned to do I know that for a fact I can tell.
Sometime things that are done in darkness must come out in the light it doesnt matter who or how it happens the people have the right to know so be much more aware of what is happening around you and the Financial Institutions instead of being so negative all the time.

    This statement says “nothing”

    March 2, 2010

Yes, I. The papers in Barbados first claimed that the Bank gave a loan to Bajan investors. Was that a lie? Why didn’t the bank confirm whether or not that a loan was given to these investors? It is confirmed that one of the investors may have a conflict of interest. Is this a lie? The Bank invested in a very risky business. There are unfinished hotels all across the Caribbean. Is this a lie? You people are sick……

It is shameful that person who claim to have Dominicans best interest at heart constantly seek to destroy what we work so hard to build. These so called jornalists have a responsibility to air what is factual yet they open their uneducated and uninformed mouths and spread rumors. Same on them for consistently misguiding Dominicans. Shame on them for spreading unjustified rumors as if they were facts. Shame on them. By now everyone should realize that Matt in the morning is for entertainment purposes only and should never be taken seriously, much like Jerry Springer only worse. Shame shame shame. Will these guys ever think?

When these people spitefulfully and recklessly attack OUR National Bank of Dominica who do they think they are hurting? Not the Board of Directors or the Managing Director but the over 100 local employees and their families who depend on the National Bank of Dominica for their living.

I have friends and families that work within this institution, all upstanding, honest and hardworking people. What these critics are doing and saying is shameful to say the least and not an attack on the Old Boys Club but on the local citizens who depend on the National Bank of Dominica.

What was said on Saturday Feb 27 2010 on ‘Between you and me’ on ‘Q95’ is shameful to say the least!!!

UNINFORMED AND UNQUALIFIED PERSONS THAT ARE WELL ARTICULATED CAN DO SO MUCH DAMAGE TO THE REPUTATION OF OTHERS ITS JUST NOT FUNNY!!!

THE HURTFUL THING IS THIS IS PROGRAM IS STREAMED VIA THE INTERNET AND THEREFORE CAN BE HEARD THE WORLD OVER!!!

I AM CONFIDENT THAT THE BANK IS WELL MANAGED AND THE DIRECTORS ARE ALL EXPERIENCED AND QUALIFIED IN THEIR OWN FIELD. AND THATS WHY MY MORTGAGE WILL REMAIN AT THIS INSTITUTION!!!!!
