“This year we are targeting a total of over 50 participants or clients around Dominica,” PRO of the event, Carrie Charles-Thomas, said at the media launch on Wednesday. “This is an opportunity for citizens to see what is being produced in Dominica, to meet the entrepreneurs and to sample and purchase their product.”

She mentioned also that there will be entertainment by various cultural groups in the day.

She said the event aims to “to create an awareness of a high quality products available locally, creating marketing and advertising opportunities for Small and Micro- businesses, to create the opportunity to secure orders and customers, provide the micro/business owners with an opportunity to promote sales during the independence and the festival season, develop export potential of the Small and Micro-businesses and create linkages with Diaspora’s visiting during the independence season.”

She is appealing to the general public to attend the event to provide support to the NDFD.

“Come and support the entrepreneurs of Dominica and come and celebrate our Independence with us as well as we showcase services of our clients and some of our partners,” she appealed.

Executive Director of NDFD, Cletus Joseph described the event an activity with a difference.

“It’s not the traditional bacchanal and party that we like, but we need to show that we are worth a lot more,” he explained. “We have that aspect which is interesting and exciting about our culture, but we also have the opportunity to showcase that we are a resilient people and creative, and we can use what we have to get what we want. We need as local businesses to build that sought of brand awareness and branding for our products and get our people locally to use and consume more of what we produce locally.”
