O. D. Brisbane & Sons receives $20,000 worth of shoes for charity from Avon

Over 500 shoes were given to O.D. Brisbane & Sons to be donated to charitable institutions for the needy.  The donor was the 125-year old catalog company, Avon Products Inc., which has embarked on a region-wide programme called “Shoes for Charity”.

Greta Dahl-Keith, Avon’s Caribbean District Sales Manager, in giving a background to this programme, said that her company takes pleasure in giving back to the communities from which they earn.

Childfund Caribbean, Operation Youth Quake, and Dominica National Council of Women were the three institutions chosen that benefitted from the donation of shoes valued at EC$20,000.  The handing over ceremony took place at O.D. Brisbane & Sons on Monday November 15 at 10 am.

Pictured below are Ms. Nicole Shillingford of O. D. Brisbane & Sons, Agents for Avon Products Inc., Mr. Lennox Abraham of Operation Youth Quake, Mrs. Josephine Dublin-Prince of Dominica National Council of Women and Mr. David Nicholas of Childfund Caribbean receiving the donation.

The recipients expressed their gratitude for the gesture and vowed that the shoes would be put to good use by those in their organizations.

I have listened to Collin McIntyre and his under handed comments to the sturdents who just graduated what I would like to ask him when and they will have questions about how the GOVT is handling or running business in DOMINICA should they keep their mouths shot or should they continue on the same path as our GOVT keep begging from other Counties and bit by bit sell out the ISLAND. McIntyre wake up and see that Brisbane have a point we cannot just sit by and allow you guys to keep the people in darkness and just pretend its business as usual so stop and think of what you guys are doing and stop pointing fingers at others and implement projects and other programs for the young educated folks that are leaving school DOMINICA cannot be run on the backs of other Countries its a very daily thing for this GOVT, you a such a hypocrite so when it convenient for you and your party you say you a doing things for the young graduates but you haven got the back bone to stand up for them against the PM $27k for a presidential palace instead of spending the funds on the young people enough is enough and people are fed up and their are more to come you better bet on that .

Am I only one of a few that has read the article and understands it?

These shoes were donated by AVON. Brisbane is just the middle man, the distributor.
No expense was met by Brisbane.

This is one organisation he did not write to.

As for a boycott on all Brisbanes establishments, I think that it was in poor taste for Mr Savarin to make such comments. Lets us be the ones to make up our minds as to where we shop.

No apology is required for writing those letters, as some thought went into them, and it would not be a heart felt apology.

I think this is a great deed…However………I would like to know the real reason why AVON’s reps used Brisbane as a conduit…

So…ODB is being used as a funnel for charitable deeds. How do you leverage for present and future political influence? Perception is everything. This is a great strategic move on behalf of ODB. Keep moving the Rooks and Knights, boys. I hope you do not get checkmate in the process.

Why weren’t the donations given directly to the three charitable institutions mentioned? I am sure they have the appropriate structure in place to ensure that such a donation gets to the right people, and is not abused.

This is something that happen’s all over where Avon sell their product. Brisbane could not keep the shoes. so is not a matter of he is doing charity. It is AVON not brisbane. so all should accept the shoes cause it is your money. That is all the profit Avon made so they giving back something. in saying thanks for doing business with us.

@Is that so?: Are you trying to compare that initiative with the ‘Red Clinic’ which lacked transparency or accountability? There could be no comparison. How shameful and wicked. Who or which Govt. institution was monitoring how that money from that ‘Red Clinic’ was used. Wasn’t that money taken from the Treasury, from the tax payers of the country?

Treasonous letters? Did you read the letters? Or you read them but because you have difficulties with comprehension could not understand the contents of those letters. Or are you just maliciously using English words that you do not have a clue what those words mean. Is anybody forcing you to shop where you want or do not want to? But do not be so foolish and blindly follow Charlo to tell me where I should shop with my money. I will shop at Brizee Marts anytime with my money in my pocket. Should we believe you when you hypocritically claim that Jerry or others could oppose constructively? Before any Dominican express concern about corruption or wrong doings, even though they present all the convincing facts, that cannot be refuted, people like you are quick to ridicule and ostracise them. You all harbor deep hatred in your hearts for such Dominicans. Let all ideas contend. Jerry rightfully showed Dominicans how millions could be saved with regards to National construction projects done. A classic example was his well researched investigation into the ElmsHall river wall project, comparing that project with the Fond St. Jean Sea defense project and the associated costs. The Fond St. Jean project, on the Atlantic coast, certainly involved much more work, was much bigger than the Elmshall wall, yet that latter project was more expensive to build. Why should that happen? Who or which construction company benefited from that irregularity? Those were two projects commissioned by Govt. So nobody noticed that the cost for the Elmshall river wall was too high? No Govt. engineer was checking the works? Was Jerry too inquisitive, as a tax paying Dominican citizen, to investigate and inform Dominicans about what happens to their hard-earned dollars? Isn’t it his business to see things go right? Isn’t it his business to demand transparency in those matters? In fact, if more Dominicans were concerned enough to advocate against those corrupt practices, our beloved country would be better off and we would be ensuring more value for money. That’s what you hate that Jerry did. You hate his guts, so you out to punish him and his business as your political friends maliciously suggest?

    @Is that so?:

Did you miss this part of the news piece “Avon Products Inc., which has embarked on a region-wide programme called “Shoes for Charity”.

So while Jerry does not really deserve any credit for this gesture by Avon your comments are totally non-sensical

And all you talk about red clinic? Well Mr. Brisbane good political move, you showing Eddie, Ron et al a thing or two about leadership (straight from Skerrit textbook). But, I still not going to shop at your supermarket until you apologize for those treasonous letters. You can oppose constructively without stooping sooo low.
